I think the Bruen decision may invalidate most, if not all of this horseshit NJ requires of firearms owners, and potential owners. NJ may have inadvertently shot themselves in the foot, if it’s properly challenged.

Hopefully, but the question is, assuming success - how long will it take?   It was what, something like 15 years between Heller and Bruen?

Hate to admit how deflating this whole experience has been.

I agree.  It's really quite depressing.

I simply cannot understand where their logic is in rushing to pass laws to literally strip our rights to protect ourselves, especially after the highest court in the land deemed exactly what they are doing as unconstitutional.

Their "logic" is that they do not believe owning and/or carrying a firearm is a right.  They believe it is a privilege granted by the state.  Doesn't matter what the Bill of Rights says, doesn't matter what SCOTUS says.  Think about it - the 2nd Amendment isn't even recognized in NJ.  Possession of a firearm is illegal.  It's illegal unless you apply for and are granted the privilege of ownership via the issuance of a FPID.  So the thought of granting you the privilege of actually carrying a firearm in public is absolute insanity to them, and will be fought, tooth and nail.

It has become obvious to me that Tactical Training is NOT the place to try to qual. The qual that they use is just about the FBI/Police qual.  There is NO reason to put people that wish to carry through such a stringent test. All the law says is that you must demonstrate proficiency with the pistols that you will carry. Thats it.  Requiring civilians to pass a test designed for law enforcement that have  police academy training is asinine. In view of this I urge all of you that wish to qual  to avoid the Tactical Training Center in Flemington, NJ.  The fact that TTC is reporting a high failure rate only proves that they want you to fail and spend more money doing the qual all over again. I totally disagree with the last sentence from ESB. You can be very proficient shooting 50 shots from the ready position (fast and slow) at a Q target at 15, 10, and 7 yards (R-L). Lets also not forget that we are qualifying with compact carry pistols with short barrels around 3".

Total nonsense.  I qualified at TTC last Sunday, and it was a piece of cake.  It is NOT the police qualification, and only goes out to 15 yards.  We had 16 people in our group, and one person failed.  He failed because he did not know how to operate his pistol.  They did the qualifications in two groups of eight people.  The guy next to me lost count of his rounds and only shot 38 of 50.  They let him go in the 2nd group and he passed, no problem.  The staff at TTC is fantastic, and extremely supportive.

  4. California is not NJ.

A tiny part of California is urban.  A few counties are suburbs.  The majority of the state is rural.

Most of NJ is urban or suburbs. There are only a few small pockets of rural areas.

Most people who grow up in the country grow up around guns.  If they don't have guns, most neighbors, uncles, and friends families do.  Most who grow up in the country are exposed to hunting even if they don't hunt. Country folk are comfortable with guns.

Most who grow up in the city only have experiences with guns that involve crime.   City people are not comfortable with guns.

California:  231 residents per square mile

NJ: 1019 residents per square mile.

This is why California and NY fight and NJ doesn't.

Absolutely correct.  CA has a gun culture.  NJ has none.

  5. Thanks for the replies.  I'm aware of its power rating, and it would be for temporary emergency use.  I wasn't planning on running "everything" with it.  I'd really appreciate it if anyone could recommend a reputable plumber and electrician in my area, if possible.

  6. The problem is not ONLY demographics, although those will eventually do us in. Maybe not everywhere within the lifetime of Mipafox (the avatar formerly known as Phosgene). However that will take 2-3 generations, 40-50 years. A more immediate threat is the brainwashing of our children, which has been going on right under our noses for the last several decades.

Take one issue, gay marriage. To say it was not a mainstream issue 10 years ago is an understatement. It was but a gleam in the eyes of kooky leftists and gay activists. In 2008 Pres.-elect Ebola and Hillary Fat Legs both declared their devotion and undying dedication to traditional marriage. In just four years gay marriage became a plank in the Democratic Party platform. One buffoon after the other got up at the convention to show his/her support for "being able to love anyone (or presumably any thing) you want."

You guys think I'm a kook. Want to read something REALLY kooky: 61% of Republican-leaning voters aged 18-29 support same-sex marriage as per a 2014 poll. Imagine how many democrat-leaning kids support it? We have lots of 17-29 year olds in our extended family. Every single one thinks I'm Hitler because I believe we should think more deeply about this issue, and for suggesting that it may not be a great idea.

I'm not chiming in here pro or anti gay marriage, just pointing out what kids think about this critical left-wing issue.

Closer to home, another poll showed support for gun ownership to be just 41% among those aged 18-29, 42% among married women, and a pathetic 31% among unmarried women (lots more of those than you think as marriage rates decline).

Think about it: These 18-29 year olds are voting today, and will be running for political office beginning now and over the next 20-30 years. Also, half the voters in the U.S., and presumably in Pennsylvania, are women.

I would pick my timeframes for the maturation or evolution of issues like this one with great caution. Things happen a lot faster these days than when the telegraph was the only form of long-distance communication.

I think you're right on the money.  Not everyone thinks you're a kook.  :icon_e_biggrin:

.....but I do miss your old avatar.

  7. Digging in on this case is totally foolish on the prosecutor's part. No one is looking at this defendant as a danger to society. If she gets any (additional) jail time this case is very likely going to force some sort of change in the carry laws, either in NJ or on the national level. This will blow up in the face of the anti gunners, and make her the poster child for much needed reform or federal reciprocity.

Nah, it isn't going to force a change in anything, and nothing is going to "blow up" in the face of the antis.  She'll just go to jail and do her time.

For the rest of us? Status quo until Christie is out of office.  Then it gets MUCH worse.

  8. My father carried every day for many many years.  He died in 1997 so I don't think he'll go to jail over my mentioning it.

He would say "I'm xx years old.  I managed to survive fighting in WWII.  I'm too old to fight now.  I'll be damned if some punk is gonna get the best of me in the parking lot at the mall, or anywhere else.  I've also managed to live my whole life without ever being searched by the police.  If my luck runs out now, so be it.  If I get caught, I'll deal with it.  My safety is too important to leave to chance, and the hope that bad guys won't be bad to me"

  9. fuck this state ,fuck obama and all the other scumbag politicians. Every one of them should be tried for treason and hung if found guilty.

I will not comply ,not now, not ever.. SCOTUS can suck my left nut

Better watch out - that sort of talk could get you branded as mentally ill, which of course could mean you wouldn't be allowed to own firearms....

  10. What about arguments from other states?  What if CA files an appeal based on the 7th's ruling and SCOTUS takes it up then upholds the 7th's ruling with strict wording calling out the justifiable need as an illegal requirement?  Will that not push that ruling down onto NJ and the rest of the 3rd?

That's a big "what if".  They had a clear split and a case sitting in front of them.  It's over.
