    Honestly ak enthusiasts are the biggest group of gun snobs in all of the gun community. Why can someone post any AR with an obvious pistol grip and not get burned? He has an AK variant with a thumbhole stock. Is it legal? Yes. Is it worth 800 dollars? No. Just leave him be. There's no such thing as a stupid question. 3 pages of burning for what? What are u educating him on? He only learned how asking 1 question can go completely in the wrong direction. Give him the chance to learn without ridicule. We are all noobs compared to someone else

     

     

    This post is giving me an opportunity to express a feeling that I’ve had many times in the past about our beloved NJ Gun Forum.

     

    Can I say this… jcpg has it right! Only thing I don’t agree with is… that he believes it is specific to the “XX variant” section of the forum. That I don’t agree with. It’s the entire forum really.

     

    I rarely post at the forum for the exact reason jcpg describes in his comment. It’s disgusting actually. You can’t ask a question without someone chiming in with some ridiculous nonsense or just being immature and treating someone like an idiot. It's crazy.

     

    But then again I’m from NJ my whole life… it’s par for the course. It’s just the way it is here in the armpit of the universe. Not only with guns but with everything! To say I’m used to it would probably be the understatement of the century. But it definitely doesn’t make it right.

     

    When I finally have the opportunity to move to Bucks County… it goes without saying... there will NEVER be a reason to visit the NJ Gun Forum again! Thank God!

    Another Chris Butler creation. Hungarian SA85M brought back to milspec. Egyptian gas block. East German front sight block. Polish slant brake.

     

    Mix Match Ironwood Beech furniture. It came as a mismatched set from Shuster's wood pile and was an already finished set that they ran for a large order. These were leftover pieces from those Beech sets. They were finished Blonde already with Tung Oil. It was stripped and re-done in Iodine amber/orange with a coat of Poly on top. It matches a million times better than when it was a mismatched oiled set.

    I think thats exactly it... everyone will always have something else to do on the day this thing crops up. I know that. We have to make ourselves more available. It's a shame we even have to think of such a thing considering it's an unalienable right in our country to keep and bear arms. I get that. But hey... we live here. It doesn't seem like many of us our moving. If we want to live here and enjoy our rights, which in addition to simply being "Rights" is also a hobby to some, a collection for others, a sport or a profession. If we want to protect the very little we have and continue to enjoy it we have to come to grips with our situation.

     

    The forum is super important for the responsible, law abiding firearms owners of NJ. Anyone who doesn't use the forum doesn't know what they are missing... and trust me there are a few of those people in my own group of friends and family.

     

    However, equal to that or arguably more important than that is us beginning to show up for these last minute discussions about our rights. Even if its the day before! We all need to find ways in our personal lives to work it out in order to be there.

     

    Agreed? Let's do this fellas! We need momentum... we can get our Rights back. Stop those infringements we hate and also show them we want back what they are currently restricting!

     

    Bottom line... we should keep the cryin' to a minimum if all we are gonna do is make a few donations and expect others to defend our Rights. Or, any other type of B^tchin' and moanin' we are all guilty of...

    There is plenty to be disgusted about, but that's nothing new. Personally, I'm energized by the success of everyone's efforts to push back on these bills. These people are NOT on our side, but the response was strong enough to drive them onto their heels and I'd like to think it's plant seeds of doubt that'll pay dividends when they review any other potential anti-gun laws that cross their desks. Perhaps I'm being naive, but I'm geniunely excited by this outcome the more I think about it.

     

    Zell959 is right to a degree. In a perfect world if everyone showed up that would be great. But at the very least everyone that commented on this thread should go next time some funny business is about to take place. If just that small amount of people go.... right... you with me?? All in the back of the Assembly room gruntin' and makin' noises and sh^t. There is a feeling to the room... trust me. These Assembly people are staring us in the face. And trust me... they see you. They can tell how you feel just by the way you look. Therefore, SOME, not all decisions but some decisions can be swayed on that floor. Call it a pipe dreams but I believe if there are enough of us... I believe it can make a difference. They see you... The more the better.

    I listened to the audio recording to the meeting, was it just me or did the one woman who said she would like to support the bill but would not because it gave to much power to the AG sound like she had no understanding of AP rounds at all. To me it sounded as though she was under the impression that it takes a special gun to fire AP rounds. This kind of raises a question in my mind, in a case like this would it be better to inform her or leave her ignorant. If she was informed we would hope she would make beter decisions when it comes to firearms by not supporting bill such as these. at the same time, If she just hates guns period she might have decided to support such bills as than she would know that AP rounds can exist for an firearm and it may scare her much more than the extra power provided to the AG

     

    Being there I was able to see this Bonnie Watson Coleman's expressions and what she was doing when she was asking her questions. The entire time she was trying to spit out her question regarding the actual FN firearm she was making a trigger finger with her right hand and like pulling the trigger as she was speaking. She didn't come across too well. After they got past that and back to the AP SS190 ammo discussion... someone said to Asm Spencer from Newark... what exactly are NJ residents doing with this type of AP ammunition? And Asm Spencer replied... "shooting targets and such" or something like that. And I was just shaking my head. Lol. Yeah... shooting targets with restricted, very expensive 5.7x28. Like the Gun Blob said... lets let it die for now and just be happy. But that sucka is coming back. They don't like us... they don't understand us... and they don't care...period!

    I work in the Trenton area. I may try to go on Monday to the State House. Who has the link to the exact information? Where was it found? Someone said 2pm... where did that info come from? I can't spend all day there but I'll try to stop by and see if I can catch the vote... if it's not a closed hearing of course. This is all assuming it's public privilege to be able to walk in to the State House, sit down and watch. If anyone knows what the deal is... let me know... I'll go Monday in opposition of Bill's A588 and A1013.

    I personally think the 24mm FSB with threads turned down looks like crap, too.

    and it has an expansion chamber that you cannot get to without removal of the brake. You can dunk it in oil or water but you can never scrub the inside.
    Yeah thats true too! That may really bother somebody... cause that stays dirty right there inside that brake. lol. I insisted on having the proper Brake for each gun. I like having the brake on the gun. All have beautiful blind pin and welding jobs, and in most cases the entire gun was professionally recoated. They are just proper. However, in spite of going through all that trouble and money I still can't clean inside the Brake like Glenn said. All guys are different. Some that may bother... some that may not. I'm learning to live with it.

     

    So is there a big difference between a slant brake and a 74 brake. Seems to me the noise issue may be resolved a bit by the slant brake as it looks like it wouldnt have most of the gas coming venting out of the sides.
    The SGL line of rifles should have a 74 Brake to be proper. Changing the FSB to one in which you would then thread the barrel. Again... not proper for this rifle. Has to be 74 style Brake.

     

    And it does look mean though Glenn. Word up... I agree. I really only have one rifle left to do. Which may end up being my ultimate. And coincidentlly K-var just got them back in stock. And that's a clone of the S74... with the proper metal triangle folding stock... pinned and welded open of course. Thats all I have left... I think I may be spent after that. Or if I ever in a million years could do an East German MPi ... yeah... fat chance.

    I neglected to comment on the accuracy and quality of some of the corrosive ammo... which I agree can sometimes be better ammo... definitely! But for me... that miniscule gain in accuracy isn't worth the cleaning time and effort. I havent cleaned one of my variants in about a year and it has maybe 2000-3000 through it since its last cleaning! With corrosive ammo you simply can't do that. And the cost... .02 cents per round difference??? Really??? I mean... I guess it can add about $20 bux to every thousand rounds... but that's such a small difference in price as compared to current production non-corrosive. I mean $20 bux is $20 bux but coming back from the range a dozen times and never cleaning the rifle is priceless. I will tell you this though... when I clean that particular rifle this winter... it will be a **** mother to get clean. It will be a never ending faucet of Copper!

     

    Whether corrosive or not I recommend Sweet's 7.62 Bore Cleaning Solvent... it contains 5% ammonia. I use many different solvents but Sweet's works well with corrosive. But be careful with your chrome lined barrels... don't let it sit too long.

    I agree with most... non-corrosive is better. The small amount you will save per round on the corrosive stuff is not worth the effort needed to clean off the salts. Not worth it to me anyway. Just like the rest of the bunch I shoot all types of steel ammo. Everything being equal... I would choose Wolf and Bear Ammo last. Of course its just as good as the rest of the brands... its just that these two brands are typically a few cents more per round. The Tula and Uly is cheaper typically. And all of my variants love the Tula and Uly. I have tons of it... and shoot tons of it. Both of those brands are my "go-to" brands. It's non-corrosive ammo and cheaper than Wolf and the Bear brands. That's just my opinion.

    To your point... The thing that gets you is... that one part of the movie during basic training, when they are in that class room being instructed on Afghani/Islamic culture, the soldiers are bored and uninterested in what the officer is trying to teach them. The officer turns to one of the soldiers and says, "Am I boring you?"... "In the entire history of the world no one has ever managed to conquer Afghanistan. No One... Never!" Like.... Pay ATTENTION SON!

     

    Kind of makes ya think though... right?

    I'm sure some of you guys have seen 9th Company but I figured some of you haven't. If you are an AK enthusiast it's a must see. It's a Belarusian movie with subtitles so I love it even more! It's based on a company of Russian soldiers who fought in Afghanistan at the end of the Russo-Afghani war in 1988 and 1989. The movie is chock full of AK74's, AKS's, Dragunov SVD's, PKM's, RPK's, a couple of NSV's and even a GSH-30 for good measure. I've seen the movie like 4 times over the past couple of years. I just watched it again tonight and figured I post this for you guys who haven't seen it. The director is a Russian guy named Fyodor Bondarchuk, who also has a role in the movie. Bondarchuk stole a lot from our own Hollywood Vietnam movies... and as much as I like 9th Company it's nowhere near as good as Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. I mean... that's a lot to ask... Kubrick was a master. But Bondarchuk definitely stole from FMJ. The main thing he stole from Kubrick was the concept of the first half of the movie being basic training and the second half being their actual deployment in Afghanistan. Some parts of the movie are melodramatic and it falls short in a few areas. But where it really packs a punch is in it's weaponry. Again... if you love AK's this is it! It gets no better than this! It's a must see for anyone who visits the AK variant page of this forum. I LOVE THIS FILM... regardless of its shortcomings.

     

    And oh... Bondarchuk also stole a little bit of Sheen's breakdown/crying scene from Oliver Stones Platoon. After all... Afghanistan is considered Russia's Vietnam... so it made sense that the director stole from our Vietnam classics. I really didn't mind though.

     

    If any of you guys have Netflix streaming to your PS3's or whatever system you use.... it's on Netflix streaming. 9th Company.

    Definitely Rifle Dynamics! You want an AK parts kit put together, Jim Fuller is arguably top 3 in the country. No doubt. Dude is a master and does stuff to a T. Also Chris Butler from AK-USA... the dude is an awesome builder as well... again... one of the best in the country. I've used both. Rifle Dynamics has about a 10 to 12 month wait for builds from customer part kits. Chris Butler may not be doing any time consuming builds these days... he likes quick jobs... but his work is incredible! Unmatched. In my opinion you could NEVER find such talent in NJ. Dudes in State are hacks compared to these guys... Straight up.

    I have a Saiga 12gauge semi auto and like all Saiga 12's it has a threaded barrel. Obviously... in most cases you can simply use this threading for a number of different chokes, in my case I'm doing a partial re-build of the gun and I'd like to put a Russian Flash Suppressor/Hider. Is it me or is Flash Suppression not mentioned as it pertains to Shotguns in NJ law? Does anyone have any idea if Flash Hiders are cool on Semi Auto Shotguns?

    I love that Russian President... He's a real gun guy. Lol. That guy is awesome! Lol. Some of you guys amaze me with your knowledge of unattainable and rare firearms. I mean... I follow gun sh^t to a certain degree and I never even heard of 9x39. Thats awesome that you know what that is. I constantly learn a lot from you guys and I've owned and operated firearms since I was a kid and I'm 39 now. Cool post and pics.

    These guys know a lot about Saiga conversion... Vlad knows a boat load. I know a decent amount about AK's and Saigas but I know more about... Joe Ski Love... I like the name. Do the PeeWee Dance brotha! "Get busy Ya'll...
