I moved to Yardley 6 years ago and love it. We moved mostly due to INCOME taxes (7% in NJ vs 3.01% PA), saved a bunch right there. Then car insurance 4 cars in NJ @ $6500 and in PA, $2250 for the same cars. Property taxes about the same but our house and yard are much bigger. Private schooling---for some reason was almost half. Then finally, the cherry on top was the gun laws....I carry all the time and everywhere...Heck, even liberals have common ground on this in PA...the gun culture is completely different here.

However, I must warn you that Bucks county has quite a bit of idiotic New Yorkers moving into the area along with moderates from NJ that will vote Democrat. Even though Bucks is a 50/50 mix of Dem and Republican they seem to vote (lately) more democrats into office. My advice will be to rent until you find out which way PA will go after the upcoming November elections. It's hard to say what will happen but I fear the Goebbels media is convincing voters that Republicans are all racist demons...and if that happens PA will eventually become an extension of NJ. I honestly feel the house will flip but the Senate will contain a narrow majority. But on the other hand, central and western Dems of PA are not like the NJ socialist Dems of NJ. Right now the pro gun Republicans have the largest gap over Democrats in PA since the 1950's and hope it stays that way for years to come.

However, the bottom line is it's better than NJ and is the only other option for you....that's the conclusion I came to while praying on the matter...Keep living in NJ or get out! BTW, the Yardley area is accessible to any NJ/NY location easily and [even] it it adds 15 mins and $50 per month car insurance alone will put you ahead. ...as long as you don't bring the NJ vote and expectations with you....

Thank you for the good advise!!  :)

  2. I need access to Journal Square in Jersey City and Downtown Manhattan   for work and I need NJ Transit to get me there.

Given those limitations , I am looking at Yardley, PA.  I can easily cross the river into Trenton and take the Northeast Corridor into Newark and then jump on to PATH.

I did a cost and time analyses.  The cost of my commute is about $45 more  a month  but the length of the commute is about the same as from the  North Branch  Train Station . My plan is to rent a hotel room in Yardley for about 3 days and get a feel for the commute.

My time line for the move is one year no more then two.

First, sorry Iggy and Ed. I can't make it on 10/29. It's the last match of the TriCounty Rifle League that day and I haven't figured out how to be in 2 places at the same time. Damn you, Albert Einstein!

As far as the rest of you and shooting 300yds, come out to the Frozen Nutz shoots this fall and winter at South Jersey Shooting Club. All the details are in my thread https://www.njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/87817-frozen-nutz-matches-at-sojersey-shooting-club/

    Brian

    Guys

This is a great way to get into precision shooting and it is exactly how I got hooked.

Now I shoot 600 yard F - Class Matches regularly and 1,000 yard  matches  every once in a while.

Yes , you have to travel but  the  Cumberland Riflemen have a 600 yard rifle range.

Come down  , shoot and have a 300 yard Zero.

Yeah.  I'd love to shoot it on your team but am afraid of the handicap that I would present

Just come and shoot with us.  If you can, practice a bit.

I will be practicing using these next weekend at either CJ or OB.

  5. The NJ Predator Hunters Club will be holding a Meeting and get together on Sat, Jan 7th at Assunpink WMA In the meeting building from 2-6pm. This is a membership drive meeting and all predator hunters or anyone interested in predator hunting is welcome.

Andrew Burnett from the Division of fish game and Wildlife will be our guest speaker and will cover Predator populations and the Eastern Coyote.

We will have a guest speaker covering some Predator hunting basics as well as nighttime Predator hunting.

Membership applications will be available and there is no dues to join .We do ask for a donation to cover refreshments and expenses. We are in the process of establishing a Central NJ chapter , and North Jersey Chapter.
A schedule of events will be posted shortly.

We are trying to make Predator hunting a focus instead of an afterthought. We all know the damage coyotes can inflict on all game species and populations.

Now is the time to act and help get common sense Predator hunting laws passed to better control Predator populations.

  6. Who is going to the 2016 Carlos Hathcock  Precision Match on  October 30th ,2016 ?

    22th Annual Carlos Hathcock Match

Cherry Ridge Range 300 Yard Line

Any rifle that is legal in the State of N.J., except bench rest.  --  No .50 Cal.

Bipod and non-commercial rests are allowed. Sandbags and rucksacks allowed.  No duffle bags/cases filled with sand.  Single round loading. No butt rests. (see additional attachment)

5 minutes will be given for sighters, during which coaching is allowed.

There will be 20 minutes to fire 20 Rounds for record, during which no coaching is allowed.

  7. What caliber is your Savage  16  ?

I have Rem 700 in .308 and I feel no  need for a brake.  The fact that I have no brake on the barrel gives me the opportunity to shoot F Class matches ( Rules ) which are fairly common in this area  versus tactical matches which are infrequent in our local.

F- Class-  Prone position  with a bipod, scope   and no brake  -  300, 500,600 and 1,000 Yards   ( NJ, PA and Del )

PRS Style Matches- Multi Positions with a bipod, scope   ( Brakes are OK )   300-600 yard  (Pa and Md. )

In addition , if you are upgrading your barrel you should consider a better stock then Choate. Look for a stock that accommodates the profile  of your rifle  barrel  with aluminum V Block bedding.

Look at H.S. Precision , Bell & Carlson , McMillian  or Manners Stocks.

    Good luck
