  1. "If I don't have it sorted by then I may just pack the family in the car and drive until we run out of gas."

Just put a rifle in the back window and drive until someone comments "Hey, nice rifle. Whatcha got there?"

I think I'll go a little further until they tell me what it is.

  2. Well if this was a free state then that ratio would be of interest and of value.  It is neither in New Germany.  Most don't apply because they know they will not be granted one and then will always have to check the box that they have been denied a permit in the past.  Knowing there is almost no chance to get one you have to be foolish to apply and then have a black mark on your record because of it.

I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here. but the ratio is if great importance if trying to prove that NJ is a defacto "no issue" state.  If over 50% of those who applied were granted, the state has a good argument that they do issue to the majority of applicants.  The state can impose restrictions on CCW as most states do.

Without knowing the total number of applicants, the number of permits issued has no context.  What if only 1195 people applied?  Then NJ would have a 100% issue rate, regardless of total population.  How would you then argue that NJ does not issue?  This is why NJ2AS was trying to get as many people as possible to apply.  The more documented rejections, the more proof that NJ has a defacto CCW ban.  Arguing that no one applies because they are afraid of getting rejected is going to go nowhere in court.

  3. My company has opportunities all over the place, but most are in places like Pittsburgh, Milwaukee, Cleveland, and other cold places. None are appealing choices. I was planning to look into Asheville, NC but it looks like they are getting an increasing number of douchebag transplants from the northeast. As much as I want to flee the high cost of living and corruption, the people are the thing I want to get away from the most. I have travelled extensively throughout the country over the last 20 years and can say with confidence there are few places with such a high concentration of rude, inconsiderate, greedy people with shitty values as the Garden State.

I want to live where I share similar values with my neighbors. This ain't it.

Still considering parts of CO and UT but am open to other suggestions. I like OR too. Fortunately, my wife hates it here even more than I do and will move to just about anywhere my career can take me.

I'm allowing another 3 years to make it happen. If I don't have it sorted by then I may just pack the family in the car and drive until we run out of gas.

  4. My wife started bugging me about a mole on my arm that's been there as long as I remember. She insisted that it didn't look right. Finally I got it cut off and analyzed.

Yep, it was cancerous. Very early stages, but it was melanoma and it was invasive. I had a big chunk of meat cut out of my arm today and, well it does suck. This is right near my elbow and I'm not supposed to bend my arm more than 10 degrees for the next two weeks. The upside is ill have a gnarly 5" scar I can lie about. Oh, and not dying from cancer.

So folks, go and get yourself checked if you have anything that looks odd. Moles that have changed color, size or shape need to be looked at. Same if one starts to itch or bleed (mine itched.). Any mole that looks different from the ones around it could be a problem. Catch it early and the prognosis is excellent.

Gun enthusiasts, take care of yourselves. We need every one of you.

  5. I'm almost certain that his PO took inventory when he was assigned and told him how to handle temporary disposal.

I really feel for you in this situation and I'm not trying to be argumentative. I just don't understand how any of this proves that the guns belonged to your father. That's what you have to do. Identify the assets and then prove they were owned solely by your father at the time of his death. I'd hate to see you nuke this relationship with your step mom that you say is so important to your kids and not even get anything out of it. This kind of thing is ubiquitous. Family members raid the homes of the recently deceased, sometimes during the funeral. Once it's gone, it's usually gone. Ghouls make out well in the absence of a will.

Hiring a lawyer to fight him isn't going to be free. Wouldn't it be easier to use that money to just buy the guns you want from him? If you're on a vendetta I competely understand. I know how to hold a grudge as good as anyone.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

  6. I'm admittedly ignorant on MD gun laws, but if they are similar to NJ's there would really be little documentation on person to person long gun sales. He can just say there are no guns. It's your word against his. Are you picturing the police going to the uncle's house with a search warrant, demanding to see all the guns in the house? I think that's rather unlikely. Even if they did, what's to stop the uncle from claiming the guns are his?

Look, your half brother sucks and your step mom has little reason to intercede on your behalf against her own flesh and blood. If you really want a couple of these guns, I'd say your best bet is to offer this POS a good price for them. I'm not saying you should have to, but if the goal is to get the guns...it is probably better to appeal to his sense of greed than to try to intimidate him using the legal system.

  7. He is my half brother. Same father, different mother. Under MD law, without a will, the spouse is entitled to $15,000 real property plus 50% of the estate. The other 50% gets divided equally between HIS children, regardless of who the mother(s) are.

I would wonder how you could prove what he owned at the time of his death. What sort of documentation do you have?

  8. Sorry for your situation. Your step brother is a selfish dick and your step mother is naturally going to side with her blood. That's life.

If you're dad did not make a will, there's not a thing you can do about it. What legal route would you take to get the guns? Diming him out to his probation officer? Yeah, I'm sure he would give them to you after that instead of selling them or just transferring to the uncle until he is legally able to transfer them back.

I understand the sentimental attachment, but I would advise you to either let it go and move on or offer to buy the guns. Some cash might suddenly make him forget about your day's dying request.

You don't say much about the relationships involved. Is it possible that he wanted your step brother to have the guns?

My dad has told me on several occasions that he wants me to have certain things when he dies. His father's pocket watch for example. I told him that he needs to make a will and spell it out because I'm not going to fight with my siblings afterward with hearsay arguments. He refuses to make a will. Guess we will see how it unfolds. Hopefully not anytime soon.

  9. No need to worry about stabilized gas going bad in a year. I've had cars sitting for years with 1/4 tank or less of non-stabilized gas and they fired and ran fine. With stabilizer, a year should be absolutely no problem.

I store in regular, red plastic cans. Never had a problem.

  10. I hope ALL of the firearms industry stops selling to Cali. It's the only way to get the silent majority of 2A supporters riled up enough to get up off their asses.

Silent majority? I doubt it. I've met way too many hunters who have no problem with banning everything other than their 12 ga turkey gun. Particularly handguns.

Remember, owning a gun does not make you pro-2A.

  11. Run an oil sample through Blackstone Labs. They can tell you if there is coolant in the oil. If there is, scrap the car.

Google Northstar V8 head gasket problems. You'll get nauseous. The head bolt threads in the block fail and the correct fix is to I stall timeserts. If you do it yourself it will probably cost you better than $600. A mechanic will probably charge you 4 times that. Or more.

Some say the problem does not affect the earlier cars, others say they all are susceptible. Figure this issue out before you put any other money in the car. I know it has sentimental value, but you don't want this to become a bigger money put than it already is.

    Good luck.

  12. I've read a dozen news stories on this tragedy. I know all kinds of details about the victim and his wife. Their professions, where they went to school, etc. I read a vague description of a car that might have been involved. The one thing I have not read is a single descriptive regarding the perps. The wife saw them. The authorities no doubt have a reasonably detailed description. Why does the media not provide us with the most pressing information regarding this crime? What PC bullshit is at work here and why is it tolerated?

Or did I miss it somewhere?
