  1. Anyone ever bought someone a gun for Christmas? I'm talking about a shotgun for my dad, who already has an FID. What's that process like? I buy it in my name, give it to him, and then what? Is the process different for someone who doesn't have an FID? I'm talking about my 17 year old sister now. Is that even legal to buy her anything?

    WTB a shotgun

Disregard "pls." Brought that in by mistake.

    WTB a shotgun

Mossberg 500 is reputable and legit, and I haven't had any problems with mine, even though I've only put a few hundred rounds through it. Pretty sure they can be had for right around 300 bucks. I would go with that simply based on reputation over something that costs 100 dollar less. When you really think about it, is $300 vs. $200 a huge difference? Pls

    1911 Knockoffs

So far, Para USA is #1, and Springfield Armory is #1A. They both seem pretty sweet.

    1911 Knockoffs

Was looking into the Para USA GI Expert .45 ACP. Looks real nice, with good reviews, and a real reasonable price. Anyone own one or ever shot one?

    1911 Knockoffs

So I only own shotguns and rifles. Handguns never really did it for me. But I've been thinking lately that I should get at least one handgun, just to have some variety, and it's more convenient to use for home defense than one of my shotguns. I haven't even gone to apply for my pistol permits yet, but I'm trying to get ahead in the game. I'm looking into the 1911. It's such an American classic. I feel like if I were to get a handgun, it would be hard for me to go with anything else. Thing is, I'm not real keen on blowing a grand on a handgun, especially since I won't be using it for all that much. Just some occasional range shooting and also as a "just in case" kind of gun. So I was thinking about getting some kind of 1911 that doesn't come from the classic, traditional manufacturer, like Colt. Just as an example, I came across this listing on CheaperThanDirt. It says it's a 1911 but it's obviously some kind of knockoff at that price. In your guys' opinion, is there a real reason why it costs so much less? Is the gun THAT much worse than the real thing? Any explanations, thoughts, or advice you guys have would be great.
  8. Holy sweet Jesus, that soldier's custom rifle looked so friggin sweet.
  9. Stopped at Dick's in Easton on the way out to LVSC this morning. They had a sale on shells. Buy one box, get one 50% off. Base price was $30, so I got 400 rounds for $90. Pretty sweet.
  10. I bought my first shotgun there a couple months ago. Used Remington 1100. Thought I got a decent deal, but now, months later, I've seen them all over the place going for considerably less. The staff was... eh. Nice enough but didn't seem to be overly knowledgable or accommodating. I actually bought the gun late on a Saturday and had to wait till Monday to get the NICS. When I called Monday to ask if I could come pick it up, the sales guy actually discouraged me from coming because he said there were only 2 guys there and it might take a while to do the paperwork. (Except I had already filled out the paperwork on Saturday) I didn't know any better back then, but I'm done with that place now.
  11. Guess I'm bagging the Efinger's idea. I'll hit Dick's or Walmart on the way out in the morning. Thanks fellas.
  12. Actually, I'm going to Lehigh Valley tomorrow so I'll pass Dick's in Easton right on the way anyway, probably right around the time they open at 9. So it wouldn't be a waste of gas. Is the price difference really that big for the shells that I should wait and get them there?
  13. I know, it's not my first choice, but it's 5 minutes from school and I have to be back here later for another class, so I don't have time for a trip, and I'm heading out early in the morning, before anywhere would be open.
  14. Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, I'm on my phone and can't do a full search. Going shooting tomorrow, but i need ammo (shotgun shells, if that matters). I'm headed to Efinger's between classes to buy some, but I don't have my FID on me because it's at home and I live here at Rutgers. Do I need my FID to buy the shells? I called them and they said no, but I just wanted to double check before I made the trip. I figured you guys would know best.
  15. Ha! Good ol' NJ. It is a bolt-action, and I just joined R-14 last week so it will be from a bench. Speaking of R-14, do you guys bring something to sit on? Those benches are kind of low, and I end up half-sitting and half-standing in order to be able to get "on top" of the gun.
  16. What do you guys think is a good height for bench shooting? Harris has a model that's 6"-9" and one that's 9"-13". I'm talking 300 yards or less. Seems like 9 inches might be a bit high when dealing with those kinds of distances...?
  17. Think I was understanding the term "swivel" wrong. If I shoot primarily from the bench, then a fixed bipod will work just fine, right?
  18. Maybe someone can start by explaining to me the differences between fixed, swivel, rotating, and any other kinds of bipods there are...? Sorry, I'm new. I'm more of a shotgun guy.
  19. As I said, I'm not schooled in this area, so I don't really know what I'm talking about. I like the pill caps idea; that would pretty easily solve the left-to-right problem.
  20. Took my new rifle to the range for the first time last week. Spent most of the time trying to zero the scope, and I noticed that my stand (just a cheap thing I picked up for temporary purposes) made it hard to aim since it was fixed and in order to change my aim, I had to move the stand. So I'm looking for a bipod, so I can have control over the vertical aim, and I'd also like one that allows me to swivel the gun to change direction from left to right or right to left whenever I want. This kind of goes without saying, but I'm not looking to spend a ton on this thing. Not sure what bipods usually go for, but it seems like I can get a pretty good one for around 100 bucks, give or take. I'm not really looking to go over that. Or if I'm blatantly wrong about that and I'm gonna have to spend more, let me know either way. Any suggestions on models to look at? I'm assuming that Harris is the go-to in this situation, but I don't know much about stands/mounts/bipods, etc, so any help would be great.
  21. I need to stop watching these shows. They just make me wanna go out and spend thousands of dollars on new toys that I don't need.
  22. Wow, that woman customer actually wants a 1911 in pink. What a sin.
  23. Haha yeah, I know. And we have plenty of wide open spaces that are at least 1,000 yards or so from any residential areas. That's why I think it might be do-able. I guess I'll just have to check with the PD.
  24. We wouldn't really want to turn it into a "range." My old man thinks it would be cool to buy target throwers and build shooting stands and make a sort of knock-off trap/skeet/sporting clays facility.
  25. Does anyone know if any laws exist about shooting on private land? My old man floated the idea about shooting at our country club over the winter if we could get enough interest from the membership. Anyone have any idea about the potential legality of this? Or anyone specific in town that I should take this question to? Or is it just a no-brainer that it's totally illegal?
