  1. I personally have not encountered this on such a call but have on others.. We get called to fights, kids breakign windows, etc and have seen people walking down the street who were involved like nothing happened.. It's when they know that we know it was them that they try and run.. One of the smartest criminals are the ones that stay calm.. Because as you said, everyone is looking for a guy in a hood/mask running around waiving a gun.. Watch videos online of guys that walk into a bank like anyone else.. they go up to a teller, slip a note or exchange words, teller hands over whatever it is and the guy walks out.. its only when he is outside that he may run or get in a car and go.. I understand the whole "the cops should know the law" and most guys do.. But unfortuantely we dont always know who are bad guys and who are not.. You can look at a cop and know he is a cop.. but i can look at you with a gun on your hip and I dont know what your intentions are.. Do you have a license to carry? Did you just come out of the range and forget to take off your gun? Did you just murder your family and looking to take others along with them? I have no idea who you are or what your intentions are.. The only thing I can do is gain the upper hand (drawing gun) until I determine who you are and what your intentions are.. Again.. I know there are some civilians that can carry but I don't know who they are.. So until I can SAFELY determine if you can carry a gun I will do all that I have to to make sure I go home at the end of the day.. What some are asking is that I have a normal conversation with a guy with a gun to see if he is licensed to carry and if he decided to try and kill me I should just try and see what my chances are in a drawing contest..
  2. IDK.. I am a cop and this Officer doesn't seem like he started off wrong.. The guy carrying was not following orders whatsoever.. A cop tells you to do something you do it.. If you have a license to carry then fine.. It will come out in the end.. But to disobey orders is wrong.. The cop telling the guy he would get shot if he moves was in the right.. He warned the guy that if he reached for the gun he would be shot.. As a cop I can tell you that I would probably have done almost the same exact thing this officer did.. I know you guys on here are all for your right to carry and all that.. I am all for easing up laws to attain guns for recreational and home defense.. but I disagree with carrying a weapon as a civilian.. I know I will get bashed for it but as a cop that is my standpoint.. On a side note I know its going to be brought up that "this guy wasn't doing anything but buying car parts" but lets look at it like this.. a guy walks into a corner shop and tells the clerk he has a gun and will shoot if he doesn't hand over the cash.. a gun is never brought into view of the cashier but the threat is still there.. so this guy doesn't have to have the gun out or anything.. how does the officer know that the guy didn't just tell the clerk to hand over all the money in the register.. so just because the gun was holstered doesn't mean anything.. lastly.. here is how this all could have went based on this the situation that occurred: Officer: (with gun drawn).. Sir put your hands on your head and get on your knees Civilian: Officer, I have a license to carry and it is in my right pocket.. Officer: Get down on the ground Civilian: Yes sir.. (gets on ground) Officer: (disarms civilian, secures civilian for safety, and checks for i.d. and license to carry) end of story.. no offense but you want to open carry then you are going to run into this ALL the time.. what cop is not going to stop someone with a gun on their hip.. yea.. let me walk past this guy and not bother to check him out so it turns out he has no license and just went to kill someone..
  3. Both.. Like to check it out in person but looking ot make a purchase.. Just wanted to pick up a nice bolt action "on a budget" to have some fun with.. Looking for one in the .223 ...
  4. I was looking for a relatively cheap bolt action rifle.. Saw that Savage has the Axis XP which is a combo package of rifle and scope.. Not looking for anything insane so i figured it was a good deal especially being that from what I have seen online they can get had for the low 300's... But all the places I call don't seem to carry it.. Thought I would see if anyone on here knows anywhere that stocks it.. Thanks
  5. I dont think that was it.. I don't remember it having that long of a barrel also it wasn't a shiny silver.. more of a dulled out silver..
  6. Ok.. So I am trying to find the gun that i saw in a gun shop once but am having no luck.. the gun was a silver revolver style handgun but was HUGE.. something robocop would carry lol... I can't find anything like it online.. it was big and bulky.. Just trying to find out who actually makes it and thought I would see if anyone on here knew off the top of their head who makes such a gun. Thanks
  7. I completely forgot about the Jersey City range.. Good thing I am a "boy in blue" lol.. Thats the range I went to when I was in the Academy.. Didn't even think of that range.. But i'm wondering if its just the for JCPD to use.. Maybe I'll just build a range lol..
  8. I was looking on the website for the Central Jersey Rifle and Pistol Club and have to be honest I was very impressed.. If it wasnt that the place was about 2hrs away I would join in a heartbeat.. Is there anything like that a little further North?? I am in Hudson County and usually go out to the Bullet Hole but it's usually crowded and its all indoor.. Would love to find an outdoor range.. Just curious if guys know of any places similar to CJRPC that are a little further North.. Thanks
  9. Went on Cabela's but kinda confused.. I went to their bulk ammo section and they have prices but they don't tell you how much ammo is included.. Thought that was kinda weird unless I am missing something..
  10. Is there a problem shooting steel cased ammo? Just wondering what the major differences are.. Any damage to gun??
  11. I am looking to purchase some ammo in bulk.. I have a M&P15 which says is in the 5.56 NATO / .223 caliber.. I was looking on some sites and trying to find the best price on purchasing bulk ammo.. Was thinking of getting like 1,000 rounds or something like that to start.. Just wanted to see if anyone on here can recommend a reputable site that has good prices and also a good product.. Thanks
  12. Just wanted to say thanks for all the input and answering questions and whatnot.. I picked up my S&W M&P15ORC today along with my Mossberg Just in Case 500 shotgun.. Ended up leaving the store with 1400 out of pocket.. That included the S&W, the Mossberg, cheap NcStar sight (Free), and some boxes of ammo (Free).. Not horrible.. Prices were a tad higher then what I got in the price request but I saved in taxes as I only had to pay 3.5% instead of the 7%.. Probably could have found a steal somewhere but figured it was a local and reputable shop so why not.. plus it wasnt a chain store.. just a mom and pop style store and I am all for supporting the small, local, family style businesses.. Anyway.. Here is a quick pic of my collection.. By the way.. Above guns are as follows: 1. Smith and Wesson M&P15ORC in 5.56 NATO / .223 2. Mossberg Just In Case - Model 500 3. Sig Sauer P229 .40 4. Glock 27 .40 5. Smith and Wesson .38 Special
  13. I was just curious.. I know that each time you go and purchase a gun they have to do a nics check.. But if you are purchasing multiple guns at once do they charge you just once or is it a charge per gun?
  14. Ok.. So after getting all the facts straight and looking back over the options I am thinking of going with the Smith and Wesson M&P15ORC which is in the 5.56 caliber.. From what I have read and been told the rifle is NJ compliant right out of the box so no modifications will need to be made by the dealer.. I see the price listed on S&W is 1069.. I called 1 local dealer so far and was quoted 909.. Just curious if any of you guys know of places with better prices or maybe a price that I could offer the dealer on the gun. I plan on purchasing another rifle while I am there which is the Mossberg "Just in Case" series shotgun.. That is a more of fun gun if you want to word it like that.. Plus for just 329 its not bad... I figured maybe I could get a package type deal if purchasing both but wanted to see what other guys have paid to get a starting point.. Second.. I am wondering what are some cheap scopes to get for the M&P15.. I don't need anything outrageous and just want to get something to throw on there so that there is something up there to sight with.. i like the 2 pictured below.. but do i just buy the scope or do i need to purchase mounting equipment?? thanks for any input..
  15. Ok.. Basically if I want an "assault style" rifle it has to have a fixed stocked as to not have room for adjustment and barrel adjustment with thread protector or muzzle brake?? There were a few rifles I was looking at.. They include the following: S&W MP15 Sport Bushmaster Carbon 15 Model 4 Carbine Sig556 I see the S&W MP15 has an option from the dealer with a fixed stock.. So if purchasing this model what would have to be done? Just the barrel adjustment?
  16. Ok.. So I am looking for a nice rifle to have some range fun with.. I was thinking of going with a .22 but wanted something a little more powerful and thought about going with a 5.56.. anyway.. i was looking around online and thought about grabbing a Sig556 however when I called a local shop they said that the one i wanted (classic) would have to be ordered and made NJ compliant which meant ditching the collapsible stock and add a suppressor... he told me i would pretty much be getting the SCM version.. The thing that makes me confused is that I have been in gun shops before and have seen guys purchasing rifles with collapsible stocks and such.. I have also looked around on this site quick and saw pics of guys that have almost identical rifles that I was looking at which has the collapsible stock, pistol grip, etc.. I am just getting more and more confused on whats legal and whats not... I am not a huge gun guy.. i mean i own 3 handguns and just looking to start into rifles.. call it what you will but i was looking for something similar to these styles..
