  1. 20+ vets in a class action suite like this could be super easy to put together.  Nappan would probably get a big fat chubby over a case like this.  It a pro 2A attorneys dream team of plaintiffs. As far as paying for it.  Man this could be crowd funded, I'm sure if the vets stood up that many many NJ residents would support the case with crowd funding.  A class action, crowd funded lawsuit to defend the 2A rights of vets.  The antis would wet their pants.

I don't think so. While active military are at higher risks there is still danger to their spouses. Veterans are at risks as well. In reality anyone who publicly supports the military is at an increased risk.

Challenging the law in this manner would furrher weaken the "immediate and justifiable need" NJ requires. Several courts have ruled that self defense IS a valid reason to apply for CCW. NJ is already at odds with several courts on this issue. Now is exactly the the time for somethimg like this.

  2. For what it's worth, buy a decent cooling pad that it sits on with some large quiet fans.   I am a fan of the Zalman laptop cooler(The $35ish one not the cheapo) and the Thermaltake "massive" for $20.   I have a friend who DJs with Videos and his machines were howling hot until he bought one.

Thanks, I actually had a cooling pad for years but the fans crapped out.  Maybe I should just replace that for now instead of shelling out $1k +/- to build a new desktop.

  3. I have personally been using a really decent laptop for a desktop for years now.  I doc it up and it acts  as a desktop with external monitor/keyboard etc.  The issue I have is when I am on it for a while or doing ANYTHING more than doc editing or web browsing, it starts to run pretty hot.  The fans run at 100% constantly.  I clean the hell out of it, but cant seem to get it to the point that it can properly cool itself all of the time.  This particular laptop has a dedicated vid card that Im sure adds to the heat issues (as opposed to integrated).

With that said, I'd suggest looking at building(piecing together) a desktop unless you really want something you can grab and go with all of the time.  For you OP, since you already have a laptop, Id say def go desktop this time around.  That way you can use the desktop to host all your music/pictures/vids, you dont have to worry about dropping the laptop and having a HDD failure.  You can have the reliability of a desktop and use it as a server if you want.  You will also be able to run more demanding applications if you want, including heavily resource taxing games if needed.

Obviously, if you dont want to piece together and build one yourself you can go and grab something thats pre-built...

  4. I still play a few nights a week.

My last 25,000-30,000 hands have been break-even tho. Frustrating. Also, we had another child in Sept and he still isnt really sleeping all that well so my time spent playing has gone down considerably and I havent committed to any tournaments the last few months as a result, just cash.

  5. I would just wait.  You have years and years ahead of you to buy something. While my 7 year old daughter is interested,  I know she isnt yet mature enough.  Getting a 7 year old to sit down and talk about something serious for more than a couple minutes is a huge challenge.  At least for me it is, and my daughter is very intelligent.  She just isnt ready yet.  Some are at earlier ages, but you will have more than enough time to pick up something for her before she is ready...

  6. I used to shoot there every-other weekend or so until we bought a house and had a 2nd kid. THe last year or so I can count on 1 hand how many times I have gone shooting.  I would love to get out there soon again, tho Im sure my membership expired quite a while ago.  Now is prob a good time to go tho before it gets SUPER cold.  I would be interested in meeting some people out there...

  7. Underwriting = Sales Prevention Department. lol

    lol damn right sir.

It would go on his policy because he's filing a claim through his carrier.  If the carrier felt the neighbor was negligent, the carrier could make payment to the insured dependent on policy language then subrogate against the neighbor's carrier.  If the tree was healthy, his carrier will still likely pay for damage and cleanup, dependent on policy language.

In most instances, a report only claim will not trigger a rate increase for the renewal term.  However, this is always dependent on the carrier and their Underwriting Guidelines.

If you can leave your insurance carrier out of this situation, I would do it.  It's not worth dealing with an adjuster if the loss is nominal.

This.  Not only that, but a report only could actually still hurt you.  Maybe not initially, but if you end up having another claim somehwere down the road the co may look at you as higher risk.  Def keep ins out of it if possible.  Like I said, get an estimate, present the estimate to your neighbor to see if they will foot the bill or at least split it with you.  Then its up to you to hire someone to do the work, or just do it yourself and use the money to pay for your own labor.
