  1. BBC News report on Cincinnati's Police Chief fighting to end racial tension.

The BBC News recently did an interesting report on Cincinnati's Police Chief who is fighting to end racial tension. They mention how and why Cincinnati has changed since the 2001 riots and what further steps need to be done. After the Ferguson riots, Cincinnati was mentioned as a possible model to follow.

    http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-32816247

"Since he took charge of the Cincinnati Police Department less than two years ago, it has been the mission of Chief Blackwell, the son of a black father and white mother, to make headway in breaking down some of the deep mistrust between black communities and the police."

  2. Canadian band Nickelback 'wanted' for 'crimes against music' in Australia

Is Nickelback the worlds most hated band? Queensland Australian Police have issued a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) for "men impersonating musicians".

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/canadian-band-nickelback-wanted-for-crimes-against-music-in-australia-1.3081333

"All of this is nothing new for singer Chad Kroeger who laughs off the onslaught of criticism. In an October 2014 interview with The Pulse Of Radio in the U.K., he said, "If they had stopped writing all this stuff about us, there would be no controversy left in the band and we probably would have died out years ago. They don't know that they're still responsible for us being around today."

"As it turns out, the Queensland police have a history of detesting Nickelback. In December 2014, they stated they would destroy a Nickelback CD received as a Secret Santa gift."

  3. The concealed carry permit law dates back to 1924 in New Jersey.

A person applies to the police chief or sheriff, if approved then it goes to the Superior Court Judge who reviews the application and if there is a need for the permit. It will be approved. While it wasn't called "justifiable need" back then, "of need" probably meant the same thing.

    Excerpts from the law

"Chapter 137 Laws of 1924 Page 305 - 308 Concealed carry permit now needed. Establishes Record of Sale, Registry, signature of buyer and seller, duplicate needs to be delivered to chief of police, penalties include a high misdemeanor, 24 hour waiting period, no sales after 3 pm, presidents of banks and trust associations, loan institutions, can make application for (up to) 20 permits for the employees, agents, messengers and clerks. Does not apply to State Police or any motor vehicle inspector...Approved March 11 1924"

Check out the entire concealed carry permit law for 1924 at

    http://lawlibrary.rutgers.edu/cgi-bin/diglib.cgi?collect=njleg&file=148&page=0305&zoom=90

    Edit:

    From

    Page 306

"If such application is approved by the chief of police of the sheriff, as in the case of may be, the applicant shall then present such application, so approved as aforesaid, to the Justice of The Supreme Court holding the circuit for the county in which the applicant is resident, who after investigation, and being satisfied of the sufficiency of the application, and of need of such person carrying concealed upon his person, a revolver or other firearm shall issue a permit therfor."

Note: It says absolutely nothing about restrictions or requiring a permit  for open carrying, it mentions carrying concealed. Open carrying seems to have been permitted at one time. I have not yet found a date when open carrying was prohibited by law. Maybe 1966? I'm not sure, need to research further unless someone has a year I could look up.

    Further info

The handgun registry (in duplicate) seems to appear here for the first time on pages 306 and 307. A copy must be delivered to the police chief or the county clerk. And there is mention of a 24 hour waiting period for handguns as well. And no sales after 3 PM.

  4. Watch out for candidates and politicians to adopt "NJ Is Special" to easily explain away difficult questions during press conferences and town hall meetings..

Voter: "How come we pay high taxes?"

    Candidate: "NJ Is Special"

Voter: "Why can't I get a carry permit in NJ?"

    Candidate: "Because NJ Is Special"

Voter: "Why can't I pump my own gas in NJ?"

Candidate: "NJ Is Special in that regard, plus it's for the children"

Voter: "Why can't we lower or eliminate tolls?"

Candidate: "NJ Is Special and it has special roads that requires very special tolls."

Voter: "Why should we vote for you?"

Candidate: "NJ is Special and I am a Special candidate for NJ"

  5. R.I. Supreme Court sides with applicant for concealed weapon permit

Reading into this article, and other articles regarding this story. It appears that "Shall Issue" in Rhode Island is closer to reality or in fact shall issue depending how you read it.

Interesting that Rhode Island has a "good reason" clause for getting the permit. Is that the same as "justifiable need".

    http://www.providencejournal.com/art...NEWS/150429594

"The Rhode Island Supreme Court ruled Wednesday in favor of a man claiming he was wrongly denied a concealed weapon permit by the former police chief of East Providence, a city that had not given such a license for 10 years."

    However, read this....

"In October 2012, the police chief sent Gadomski a letter denying the permit based on what the chief deemed a lack of need and because Gadomski had two misdemeanor charges from 20 years earlier. The charges — destruction of property and possession of alcohol by a minor — were both disclosed in the application and ultimately dismissed."

The police chief was accused of abusing his position by putting his own discretion on the conceal carry license. But the State Supreme Court ruled in the applicant's favor.

While it would seem that "Shall Issue" is now the order of the day in Rhode Island with this ruling. Does it only apply to this particular case only? Or where a city like East Providence has denied issuing carry permits? The article doesn't come right out and say that Shall Issue is the order of the day, although it sounds like it.

"Rhode Island law dictates that authorities in any city or town "shall" issue a license or permit to carry a loaded handgun to a person 21 or older "if it appears that the applicant has good reason to fear an injury to his or her person or property or has any other proper reason for carrying a pistol or revolver, and that he or she is a suitable person to be so licensed."

So is Rhode Island  really "shall issue" now? It does appear that a "good reason and/or proper reason'  clause works with shall issue.

  6. Washington Times picked up the story

Federal judge halts D.C.’s ‘good reason’ concealed carry requirement

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2015/may/18/dc-good-reason-gun-ownership-requirement-halted-by/#ixzz3abC7Qxu8

"A federal judge on Monday put on hold the District’s requirement that gun owners demonstrate a “good reason” in order to receive a concealed carry permit — saying the licensing scheme deprives citizens of their Second Amendment rights.

U.S. District Judge Frederick J. Scullin Jr. granted a preliminary injunction in a lawsuit brought by three gun owners that seeks to overturn the new D.C. firearms law on the grounds that the regulations are so strict that they make it impossible to exercise their right to bear arms."

  7. Supreme Court says convicted felons can sell their guns

The Supreme Court says a convicted Felon can sell his guns after they are confiscated or turned over to authorities as long as the Felon has no control over the weapons.

This case was bought about after a former Border Patrol agent was charged with marijuana distribution. The former agent wanted to to sell his firearms to a friend after he turned them to the FBI. A lower court initially ruled against it.

    http://www.fox19.com/story/29091028/supreme-court-says-convicted-felons-can-sell-their-guns

"A unanimous Supreme Court says the government can't prevent a convicted felon who is barred from possessing firearms from trying to sell his guns after they are confiscated by authorities."

  8. OK, here is the amended law from December 7 1963, while it mentions slung shot. There is absolutely no mention of slingshot. I typed it from the site below. It is public information from state government.

Was reading about this earlier, apparently the error was made in 1978 when someone was transcribing the 1963 law.

Can the law get voided out because it was transcribed in error?

  9. Every house on Mtn. Lakes Blvd are around 32K per year. I have customers in Chester, and new Vernon paying around 60K with about 3 acres.

There are some "mansions" in my town paying 50-75k in property taxes just a short distance from me.

I had no idea that taxes were that high. I won't mention what we are paying here.

  10. New book on LA Crimes and Photos from 1953

Crime writer James Ellroy has a new book "LAPD 53" coming out on Tuesday May 19 2015.  It looks at Los Angeles crimes and photos from over 60 years ago. The book looks to be an interesting read. The link has some pictures of crime photos from 1953.

Crime writer James Ellroy has teamed up with the Los Angeles Police Museum on "LAPD '53," a new book that looks at crimes in the city more than 60 years ago.

  11. Years ago there were these stories making the rounds about detention camps, foreign takeovers, Chinese troops at the border, FEMA and U.N. Troops going house to house confiscating weapons from gun owners. The Australian gun grab in the 1990's got some concerned that gun confiscation might happen in the U.S., and the AWB of 1994 was further fueled speculation that we were "next" to be disarmed.

There was a video making the rounds in the mid 1990's which alleged that some "train repair facility" in Indiana was really a future "concentration camp". There were rumors about former military bases that "closed" but actually remained open and operational with a maintenance crew for "just in case".

Some pointed out that these facilities were future detention camps because the barb wire faced in to keep people in and not out, train tracks that led in and out of the facility, helicopter landing pads, wind socks, and a crematory like that " train repair facility" in Indiana allegedly had. And of course there was a special color code system called "tackamars". These color coded stickers were stuck onto the backs of road signs so to point to the direction to those rogue detention camps from major roads as well . This was used of course because "foreign troops can't read English" but they sure could read these color sign stickers. Further fueling the speculation were stories about "military operations" with such names as "Operation Garden Plot" "Cable Splicer" and "Rex 84" provided even more speculation that pointed to some kind of "takeover" was imminent, and one way trip to the "camp" was all but assured.

  12. I could sware I remember reading someplace, or hearing on GFH radio that Alexander Roubian, was having a meeting with Chris Christy to discuss this subject. It was a month or 2 ago. I don't know if that meeting took place or not, and if it did what the answer was from the governor. Anyone else recall this?

I saw a thread here on NJ Gun Forums that CC (when he was replying to some question)  he said "New Jersey is Special" .  I don't remember the context of what the question and answer was about or the thread.

  13. Could Christie, in theory (if he wanted to) make an executive order said self defense is a valid reason for justifiable need? Or make an executive order that takes out the justifiable need out of the requirements. Or order it to expire and not get it readopted?

If he could not, (but he wanted to). Then why?

  15. . Maybe I'm paranoid, but it's better to be aware and ask questions! Obamunist's plan to evoke martial law and stay in power past his term limit, naming himself dictator in chief?

I'm not saying it can't happen, it could...but they said the same about Bill Clinton.

Beware bogus ‘arrest warrants’ in the mail

    http://cliffviewpilot.com/beware-bogus-arrest-warrants-in-the-mail/

"PUBLIC SAFETY: Con artists have been mailing bogus arrest warrants to people in an attempt to swindle them out of money, acting New Jersey Attorney General John J. Hoffman warned this morning.

In addition to calling victims over the phone, scammers are mailing out the phony warrants that purport to be from state or federal authorities.

In one of them (above), the letterhead says that the “warrant” was issued by the U.S. District Court and claims that the target is charged with criminal violations — including “collateral check fraud” and “theft by deception” –and faces “a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a fine of up to $24,000.

It then directs the target to pay an “outstanding balance” of $1,876.48, and to call a phone number with a 609 area code to arrange for a payment plan."

  17. like mipa said.......post the question, then take a screenshot. then when she deletes it, do another screenshot showing it missing....then make her famous for not only ignoring a constituent, but for blatantly blowing you off..

Great idea, several different screenshots would make a great YouTube VIDEO that can be passed around to everyone and even uploaded on Facebook. (For the screen shots, you might want to hide your screen ID (there are several ways) or use a Facebook account under a bogus name). In addition, you  want others to upload the video in case she demands that YouTube and/or Facebook take it down.
