  1. Baer makes a great gun but from my understanding the grip size on them is slightly bigger than a lot of the other 1911's out there.  Not a deal breaker for most, but getting grips can be frustrating if you're super picky.  Additionally, LB builds their gun as a "hard fit".  Racking the slide without cocking the hammer can be difficult and getting the bushing off usually requires a tool.  I've shot a buddy's LB and although nice, it wouldn't get the nod from me.

Dan Wesson guns are built on slightly more standard sized frames which makes getting the grip's fit correct pretty easy.  They have a great reputation and I know of one smith that loves building on them.  They also are a bit easier to manipulate than the LB's typically are.  I've not shot one.

I don't think you can go wrong with either.  Good luck with your decision.

    SHOCKING!

    What's the budget?

Whatever your self imposed budget would potentially be.  Mine is 1500.

    That would suck.

It's a mental exercise that serves zero purpose.  Lighten up Francis....  :8P:

  3. So, you open your safe and find it stacked with a bunch of handguns. Seriously. All your needs are met (and honestly, all your wants as well). However, in true addict like fashion, you want to add to your collection. But for some reason (you pick, either just a general sense of frugality, kids going to college, need a new roof, etc.) you are limiting yourself to only ONE handgun purchase for calendar year 2020.

    What do you get?

  4. Current favorite is my ZEV OZ-9 build.  Should get even more favoriter once the new slide shows up for it and I get it all painted and pimped.

Otherwise, I have trimmed my meager assortment of pistols down to things I really do like and will use without reservation.  Which means that my favorite is generally what I'm shooting that day.

FYI: Ad pet Trijicon the SRO is not a “duty” rated optic.

That is straight from the Trij reps mouth when asked about using it on our G17 for patrol.

Agreed. It’s their answer to everyone making awesome optics for match guns.
I was able to cast an eye thru one. I’d really like one but will stick with the Venom as it works really well and is wayyyyy cheaper.

The only real question on this, for me, would be has someone finally made a metal glock frame that doesn't break?

Other than the limits of the glock trigger, the old wolf race frames shot REALLY nice.

I can only say that I really like this gun. Longevity remains to be determined.
This gun will be my primary pistol for local/club level matches for the foreseeable future. I have a holster on the way from GX. Mag pouches will be next as the ones I’m using (although they work fine) are on loan from a very good friend. A red dot will be added shortly as well. I really like the Vortex Venom and will use one again. My eyes are not what they used to be unfortunately.
The pistol, as she sits, shoots really well. I load somewhat hot as I have another comped gun and don’t want to worry about ammo mix ups. The frame really does seem to handle the recoil a little better than a stock 17. I like the grip but will be deleting the one finger groove and stippling it(I really don’t like any finger grooves personally). I had a Zev trigger in it but it didn’t agree with my finger so I put an Apex Purple in. I really like they trigger a lot.
All in all, I’m really very happy with the gun and am looking forward to making some upgrades down the road as I get better at running it.

  7. 9mm (and most likely the 350L) headspaces off of the case mouth.  Making a gun that will chamber both would necessitate having a moon clip or a clip of some sort to allow it to headspace off of the groove in the cartridge.  And iff a lot of 9 was shot, the fire ring would be an issue as well.

That said, I like the cartridge a lot.  It has a lot of potential.  It's like 357mag in an AR, which is stupid cool.

I passed, but it wasn’t pretty.  I forgot to aim low on my first shot and it went 10 inches higher than my point of aim.  I actually aimed where the target meets the ground for the rest and it took the remaining 4 arrows to pass.  Ugly grouping...one inside circle on left, one inside circle on right side and one in middle.  I need some lessons and lots of practice for sure.

    the written part was easy.

You passed.  The deer won't care either way.  Congratulations.
