  1.

Some people shoot a lot. Some people are wackos that hoard ammo. Maybe 1 or 2 people are truly crazy and stocking up for some mass murder thing. Even so, Holmes didn't bring 6000 rounds with him to the theater.

Even if I started to stockpile a boatload of ammo, what exactly would the "authorities" say to me? What objective criteria would they evaluate me on? They'd need a warrant to even talk to me. I plead the 5th and then what?

    That's exactly my point.

  2.

I use the general purpose range at Central Jersey and hang a 24" steel target on the berm at 240 yards. I can pretty consistently ring steel with the iron sights on the rifle if I shoot prone or off a bag. I can only imagine it being better with some optics on it.

Nice! I was wondering about adding optics. I see that it has a short rail forward of the receiver. I'm guessing a scope with a 6" or bigger eye relief would be in order.

  3. I'm glad you got the rifle you wanted and that the SOCOM II "shortcomings" were overblown. Let me know if you are interested in trying a side by side comparison with my Scout Squad. I shoot at Central Jersey rifle.

Was wondering what kind of distance you can get out of the Scout Squad. Was thinking about purchasing one for the range and out of state hunting.

  4. Playing Devil's Advocate, I don't think the number of rounds total has been raised by most people. The thing that most people are saying is "This guy got 90 deliveries of ammo over under 60 days". The UPS man was delivering ammo to this guy, in a suburban area, once or twice each day every day. And they are not saying that the ammo retailer should be psychic, but if that unusual purchase pattern had sent up a red flag, perhaps warranted a 'closer look', be it an at home visit or intense background check, then maybe this could have be prevented. Would any of you guys really be against an at home visit for ammo purchases that sent up 'red flags' for one reason or another? I am not saying police searching your home, but someone knocks on your door, sits down for twenty minutes and asks some questions to make sure you are not insane. Would this stop every tragedy? Of course not. But I for one don't find a very minor inconvenience (That does not violate my constitutional rights) if it could stop one or two of these situations even. As for the few people who do hear '6000 rounds' and say "That's awful!" They are either ignorant or just have never been around firearms. The media (those from both political ideologies) likes to use big numbers to scare people in all sorts of situations. One of the reasons this country has polarized itself into deadlock. But that is a rant for another day.

I understand your point however I disagree with being ok for a visit by an agency due to my purchase habits. Who's to say what "abnormal" is? If you were to buy 6k rounds in 5 days from 6 different retailers because each had a sale or free shipping offer, who catches that? The shipping company does not know what's in the boxes. Just because it says Federal or Winchester on the box does not mean its ammo. How about companies that repack or double box? Will every shipment from Midway or Sportsman's Guide raise a flag?

  5.

Actually, IIRC, it says any CF rifle .25 caliber or less or any centerfire rifle firing a bullet of 100 grs or less.

Thank you Bob! I was paraphrasing.

Once my scope arrives this week I'll be taking my 22-250 out for some ground hog huntin!

  6.

Not to thread-jack, but I was under the impression that we can't hunt with a centerfire rifle in NJ. If that's not entirely true, can somebody point me to the law that says we can?

If you go to the Division of fish and wildlife web page and look up the rules for woodchuck hunting, it states "any center fire rifle with a bullet under 100 grains".

  7. Pass.

Shawn, you seriously don't think worker salaries affect the prices of things? It's like the chicken or the egg, as salaries go up, as well as other expenses, the cost of the companies products go up. It has been reported that every vehicle that GM sells, $1200 is added on to the cost to cover union costs.

If a company has higher costs due to government regulations, higher taxes or higher salaries, benefits & pension costs, they're not going to just eat it, they will raise their prices. Then you will pay even more for cell phones, cars, houses, etc.

    +1

I'm not anti union in the sense that they were formed in the first place to stop sweat shop conditions and poor treatment of the workers. What bothers me is that in many cases, their protections have created an environment where marginal or sub standard performance is compensated the same as spectacular. There's a glaring example of this in NJ, the NJEA. Please don't anyone take this as me being anti teacher, but when I get my tax bill each quarter I get a bit miffed seeing 53% of my taxes going to a school system I don't even send my kids to.

  8. Didn't get into handguns till last year and my first purchase was a Springfield XDM 45acp, 4.5". I love that gun. Since then I have purchased a few others including a Sig and revolvers and I still like the XDM best. I'm starting to collect and appreciate the different sizes, materials, and styles out there.

  9. What press? The Dillon only does taper crimps, which I prefer. It's the strong loads with slower powders that need a tight crimp. The bullet needs to be held in place for the pressure to build up. You will know you don't have enough crimp if you find unburnt powder flakes in your cylinder.

Fast powders like Bullseye don't need that tight crimp.

Lee Classic Cast with Hornady titanium nitride dies. I'm gonna try backing the die off a hair when I run the next batch.

  10. Just wanted to say I loaded my first 5 rounds of 38 special today, test fired, and success! Never thought I would feel so satisfied from firing my own ammo! Now I'm going to go ahead and run 100 more through the press.

3g of Bullseye, PMC brass, and federal primers with Speer 158gr LSWC bullets.

I do have a question for you all regarding the crimp. How much "roll" do you put in? To me it looked like I went a little too far, but the rounds fired just fine.

  11. 10mm Firearms forum. It was started a short while ago. I found out about it while reading the Glock Forums when I was getting ready to buy my G20SF. There's all kinds of ammo, barrel, reloading, and accessory info. Very friendly bunch on there.

  12. yup...already in the works i understand. The person I spoke with actually told me that the nice list we posted here is / was what they have used going after places shipping handgun ammo here before this event happened...but now it looks like we will have a dem bill outlawing it...

I wouldn't know anything, but i happen to know a few elected officials pretty well and they related this.

but that is just my tinfoil hat .....I have asked a number of times to have that list removed and it goes away then comes right back

Where did you hear that something about online ammo purchases was being drafted? I don't doubt that there will be feel good gun control legislation drafted because of this. If you look on the NJ assembly bill list there is a mag restriction bill sitting there lowering capacity to 10 and sighting the Giffords shooting in AZ as the reason. I'm sure it will be amended to list the CO shooting as an additional reason.

We as the gun owning community must be ready to voice our opposition to any such legislation. It's nothing more than the anti gun community pushing for feel good legislation.
