  1. Which begs the question, What would you do If the local PD aided by the State Police and FBI came to your house to collect firearms? I know a lot of people will claim that they will fight them off and all that, But seriously. Would you hand them over? At home with your family in the house. Would you comply? Its a scary question, But I am truly curious on what you would do.

That is what scares me to death to think about. This treaty passing in theory could start a civil war of sorts. All the little countries around the globe that hate the US would have their victory by watching us battle each other on our own soil.

I know it's far fetched thinking on my part. being I plan things for a living and always have to be prepared for a ton of "what ifs" I can't help feel this way!!

  2. I know this is the NJ gun forum, but found Myself in an interesting conversation with a friend from PA.

According to my friend, PA state law considers a gun a "firearm" if it has a 16" or shorter barrel. I asked what they considered something with a barrel longer to be, and he did not know.

Anyone here know the answer to this? I scratched my head since I was under the impression the term firearm was used to refer to any gun.

  3.

I'm basically working about 70 hours a week, with about another 8 hours tied up in driving. Plus after building the AR, loading 150 rounds for it, I still haven't shot it, or any other gun since January.

Our lives are always going to be insane. If its not work, family obligations will get you running. If not the family, there will be friends you'll need to help. If not that there will be something at your house that ties you up. It's a big hamster wheel that is always spinning. Just a matter of how many hamsters jump on the wheel at once!

  4. animal control will not help you if you trap it. If they trap it, they'll release it on your property at the edge. At least in my town thats how it works.

call them first to see what their SOP is...

you can also try fox urine scent markers. they sell them at some garden centers. seems to work for us.

    good luck.

I'm gonna look into the fox urine. Thanks for the tip!

  5. You can try to catch it in a hav-a-heart trap. When you catch the skunk, throw a blanket over the trap so he can't spray you.

Now you have the problem of what to do with the skunk.

Option #1 is to put it in your car and drive it out into the woods and try to release it there.

Option #2. call animal control and have them deal with it.

Would definitely go with option 2! My fear in having it caught in a trap is that its gonna spray no matter what just from being pissed off it's in the cage. I can only imagine the pleasant smell of my yard once that happens!

  6.

Yeah I did hear about this bill and looked it up. It seems as if this bill was first introduced in 2009, if I remember what I read correctly. Why is it still in waiting? And what can we do as enthusiasts to help get this bill passed?

The bill Bob spoke about is new and different from anything currently in que.

The problem we have in NJ with any pro gun bills is the Northern NJ politicians. Its my understanding that when issues are discussed and explained, the North Jersey folks go nuts and get on the rant about how guns are evil.

It sounds Kind of like trying to get a 3 year old to eat their vegetables at dinner time after they tell you no. When you ask them a second time, the kicking and screaming begins because they just don't want to hear it.

  7. Seems we have a skunk frequenting our yard. Every night we are graced with the lovely smell. I live in a development with houses fairly close to each other. Is there anything I can put out to try and keep it away?

Next outdoor issue is chipmunks. Seems they are in love with tunneling under my lawn. Any tips on something that will send them packing too?

  8. Are you occupying the property year round or is this a second home? I have seen hunters here in NJ go out and pull down posted signs on private land right before deer season. As mentioned before, signs will only work with honest people.

If the neighbors hunters baby sit the land next to yours, there's a decent chance they bait which means the deer will probably go into the pile twice a day, and the hunters will never have to set foot on your property.

  9.

What is being done to get the permit issue fixed? I can't find anything or anyone doing anything for it, except the bill that was introduced in March, for the second time.

When Bob Viden spoke at the last NJ2AS meeting, he said there was a draft of a bill that would eliminate going to the PD for getting pistol permits. The issue is we are waiting to get a bill number assigned. It was said with all of the budget issues and summer recess, the bill number would not be issued until everyone was back from their summer break.

I'm greatly paraphrasing the speech. Perhaps someone else who also heard the talk could chime in.

  10. The NJ law permitting one handgun purchase per month should be recinded. With exceptions for multiple purchases as antiquated as the law itself, hopefully enough power can be brought to our legislators to make them see the light. I don't know if this matter has been discussed recently but if so, it needs to be discussed gain.

If you have not done so already, check out the New Jersey Second Ammendment Society www.nj2as.com . They are working to get our crazy gun laws straightened out. If your on Facebook you can look up their page and follow too. It's $35 a year to join, but the meetings are open to anyone for free.

  11. Ha! i thought this was going to save me money!

Priced everything out and it's going to be north of 2k if I buy it all at once. Then again, that's only 10 cases of 9mm or 5 cases of 45. I'm going to have to come up with a serious sales pitch for the boss lady.

I'm in the starting phase of reloading myself. There is definitely an investment being made up front, however I'm looking at the long term. I go to the range at least once a week on average. Once I'm up in running, I should be able to supply my "habit" for around 1/2 the cost of name brand ammo. Not to mention the benefit of being able to dial in rounds for each firearm.

  12. Being in south jersey, most of the scrap yards here are small time unless you go into Camden. It wouldn't surprise me if some of the "recyclers" yards told people they have to give them brass casings for free cause they have to be cleaned.

I'm just starting with reloading, so it will be a little while before I have some full 5 gallon buckets of many times fired brass. The thought of tossing them into the trash when they have reached the end of their useful life just don't seem right if there's $$$ to be made.

  13. I was wondering if anyone had issues taking their old brass cases to the scrap yard to cash them in. A few days back I had a conversation with a guy who said the scrap yards only take it for free since they need to wash and process it before they can sell it, even if you bring it to them all cleaned up. Not sure how many places this person checked with, but it seems like there's a scam afoot if this is what the recyclers are doing.

  14. It was nasty here. So I heard. I slept through it.

Same here a whopping 5 miles from you!

Atlantic county got it bad. Was out in the Egg Harbor City area and it looked like a war zone. Trees down all over and many closed roads. Down by Northfield they are being told the power will be off till Wednesday at the earliest.
