  1. Sure there was. No one can predict what would be in a new ban, if there is.

That being said, the prior Federal Ban grandfathered firearms and mags. It restricted newly manufactured items. Possession of pre-ban was legal.

Would the same apply to New Jersey, I mean if a weapon was placed on the New Jersey banned weapons list or if magazine capacity was reduced from 15 to 10?

  2. Well I thought 1894 marlin css would be nice, then i find that will never happen, new or used. Does anyone have the info on what is going on at Marlin? Will they ever regroup and produce what everone wants? Thanks in advance for the inevitable story of how so and so happened in a shop and found a css for 100 bucks.

I gave up awhile back and settled on Rossi R92's, one a SS 24" octagon barrel, the other a 16" blued round barrel. I'm happy with both although it took a little bit of work (and learning) to get them the way I wanted.

  3. was curious if anyone has and how it went. i am thinking of ordering from either one of them since store stock seems to be limited or selling out before i get there!

    thanks gang

Ordered 4 times from Buds, never had a problem. On my last purchase their price dropped on the firearm I purchased. I used their price guarantee through Buy Safe and got the price difference deposited into my PayPal account in a few days.

  4. Every Vietnam Era Marine I know experienced deja vu when they saw the boot camp scenes. The only thing they say wouldn't have happened is when they had the guy marching with his pants around his ankles on the parade field. On a back trail yes, but not in public view on the parade field in public view. They said it would piss off the officers.

I arrived at PI on 8/17/69. Actually there was a lot more that went on at PI than what was in the movie. It's true what used to go on was kept from the officers and of course the public. One of the DI's I had made PI quite a memorable experience. He was a recon sniper, served two tours in Nam. I remember one day there was a brief ceremony to award him the Navy Cross for 60 confirmed kills. He really made our lives hell but I'd do it all over again if I had the chance.

  5. CNN and Reuters are reporting that the shooting is being trated as domestic terrorism, that the shooter was a 40 year old heavy set white male local to the area and that two semi-automatic pistols were found that were believed to belong to the shooter.

CBS says that the shooter was armed with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, the second pistol found belonged to one of the officers.

  6. My first handgun was a revolver, a stainless steel 357 magnum Ruger GP100 with a 5" barrel. It's still my favorite, all 43 oz of it. After that I got another 357 magnum revolver, a SP101 with a 3" barrel. It's quite stimulating firing 357 magnum ammo in it and is my second favorite. My last purchase was a SIG P226 in 9MM, I also enjoy shooting it but not as much as my revolvers.

The Ruger 357's have a pair of of 357 lever action Rossi Model 92's,one blued 16" barrel and one stainless steel 24" octagon barrel to keep them company.

I'm not anti union in the sense that they were formed in the first place to stop sweat shop conditions and poor treatment of the workers. What bothers me is that in many cases, their protections have created an environment where marginal or sub standard performance is compensated the same as spectacular. There's a glaring example of this in NJ, the NJEA. Please don't anyone take this as me being anti teacher, but when I get my tax bill each quarter I get a bit miffed seeing 53% of my taxes going to a school system I don't even send my kids to.

    I agree.

Of course unions significantly raise the costs of goods and services. The pension funding and healthcare are real killers. For example I have a co-worker that was in construction for about 10 years and will be receiving a $1700/month pension based on 10 years of work. At simple 3% interest you need about $680,000 invested.

I’ve also had many personal experiences with unions. The first was about 45 years ago, I got a part time job after school at what was Aurora plastics in New York. Since I would occasionally step onto the loading dock I had to join the teamsters union. They sucked a considerable amount of my pay in dues and after 6 months on the job I was laid off due to over hiring. The teamsters did nothing to help.

Another experience was dealing with the electrical union while working in the city. On occasion I needed to relocate computer to other locations in the same building but I was not allowed to do the work. As silly as it may seem I could only power down the computer. I had to have a union worker being paid overtime unplug the machine, carry the machine to the new location, and plug it in. What a waste of time and money for the firm I worked for, not to mention the union members had to have their breaks when I wanted to get done and out.

Unions may have been a good idea long ago but now they are a considerable drag on society.

  8. The Colorado shooting was the classic "white man goes berserk," another modern day Falling Down. America's appetite for violence is insatiable. We demand it in our entertainment everyday. Doesn't say much for us as a culture. Psychologists and sociologists have been doing cause-and-effect studies on TV and movie (and now video game) violence and its effects on people since the 1950s. The majority of these studies usually show a positive correlation between the viewing of violent acts and later violent behavior. (Remember learning in your Intro. Psych. and/or Intro. Sociol. classes about the famous Bobo doll study with little children, done in the 1960s by a researcher named Albert Bandura?) Aggression is a learned behavior. Yes, crazy people will always exist. We just have more of them today and these instances will continue.

Back in the 50's when I was a kid in New York I remember looking at ads in the back of magazines and seeing mail order ads for M1 Garands and Carbines. What I don't remember is the degree of violent based entertainment available to children,

  9. With respect to equipment he supposedly wore a helmet, gas mask, groin protector, knee protector, and body armor. As others stated he had purchased 3000 rounds of 223 and 3000 rounds of 40 cal via the internet.

  10. Besides the incident at the theater people in the apartment building reported loud techno music being played in a loop coming from James Holmes apartment. One of the other tenants went and pounded on his door yelling to turn down the music. The tenant also said that the door appeared to be unlocked by the way it rattled when he knocked but he didn't open the door. He went back to his apartment and reported it to the police via a non-emergency 911 number,

The police still haven't entered the apartment unsure of exactly what he has rigged.

  11. a dealer doesn't find out the reason for denials, NICS doesn't tell us, the dealer can give you a denial request form which you can mail in and receive a written reason for denial from the state

Every time that I make a firearm purchase I have about a one hour wait on the NICS, the check always comes back "pending". My FFL asked me if I would like to talk to the NICS person to see why there is always a delay even though it always passes. I took him up on it and this is what I found out. A little over 40 years ago I had a DUI in New York. This still shows up on my record and the NICS people have to request clarification from New York. This is what takes an hour to get. Once they receive the clarification the purchase is ok'd right away. My FFL suggested that I could have the 40 year old offense expunged but after Googling a bit it seems that New York wouldn't allow it plus the one hour wait isn't worth the attorney's fees.

  12. I've had the same rifle and just bought the same video from Steve's, along with the stainless magazine follower. I shot a lever gun match with it the other day and had a lot of trouble feeding 38s - seems to feed 357 better (not a surprise since that's what it's designed for).

I'm pretty stoked about the depth he goes into on the action mods and it looks like I'll be diving into them soon. If you do any of the work let me know how it turns out.

Overall I like the feel of the gun.

I had sent an email to Steve regarding the feeding of 38's and he replied with the following:

"The problems shows up the most with these short straightwall pistol cals. and it's even more common with cals like 38/357m and 44spec/44mag because of the diverse selection of ammos to chose from. Just keep in mind these pistol cal rifles are a lot like semi-auto pistols. There's just some ammo it's not going to work with.

The original 92's were designed to work with bottleneck ammo in the 1.5" to 1.6" OAL. Depending on the bullet shape it may work with longer ammo and even shorter if you don't try to run it fast.

As you have found the most common problem with the shorter 38's is the gun will throw out live rounds with the empty's. This is because the shorter 38 coming on to the carrier from the tube can bounce forward enough that the rim is too close to the rim slots in the guides and when you lever it fast the carrier just catapults them up or out with the empty."

Overall I like the rifle and it serves my purpose, a companion for my 357 Ruger revolvers. I too got the stainless magazine follower but am putting off making any other modifications until I use the rifle for awhile.

  13. Thanks everyone! I think that I'll stick to Hoppes #9 since the rifle doesn't have any excessive oil on it. What also concerned me about the video was that Steve left the wood hand guard on the Rossi as he was emptying a can of brake parts cleaner down the barrel and magazine tube. It seems that everyone here says to keep brake parts cleaner away from wood which sounds like real good advice.

  14. Just picked up a Rossi Model 92 blued in 357 Magnum. I also purchased a DVD from Steve Gunz (http://www.stevesgunz.com/) for expert advice on assembly/disassembly, cleaning, and modifications. Steve recommends after removing the stock to flush the barrel and action with a non-chlorinated brake parts cleaner until the fluid runs clear.

Does anyone use brake parts cleaner to clean their firearms?

    Thanks
