So here she is, my first 1911...I have a sneaking suspicion it wont be my last one either... So i went Desert Eagle G after reading up and handling a few different 1911's. Unfortunately i have not got to the range yet, but its a real solid feeling pistol. I don't think i will be disappointed at all!

Just got the confirmation that my new 1911 just got delivered! Only issue is i am stuck at the office till 5:30!

i was out there last weekend and there where quite a few people with water jugs out there. also i have seen people stand clay pigeons out to pick off as well; they make a little trench and stand them upright.

Ultimately the savings was the factor for me, even after the transfers & nics i am still 80 bucks below what i would have paid going thru GOG and about 50 bucks less than the stores by me. and with a .45 on the way in that's ammo money!

i would assume there is the local transfer fee on top of there prices? looks like Brick armory is one of their "preferred" dealers, so that works out for me since they are close.

was curious if anyone has and how it went. i am thinking of ordering from either one of them since store stock seems to be limited or selling out before i get there!

so, i was at shore shot yesterday and handled a couple 1911's; they had a Magnum Research, a Taurus, a colt and some others out of my price range. I have to say the MR Eagle was hands down the most solid feeling out of them all - but it was the C model with the shorter barrel. I want the full size. The colt was really nice too, and the particular Taurus was just not a nice piece. it was the one with the aluminum bottom and blued top or parkerized? but it was very cheap feeling. and seemed to almost have some rust on it. I have held some nice ones in the past, but this one did not do that company any justice. I am hoping that SS gets the Full G-size model in or i may just order from Gallery of Guns. Still want to check out the Remington and the STI up at Lou's.

Another question is how heavy do you want the firearm? My wife bought the Kimber Aegis II as she wanted the lighter weight frame.

great question, i tend to prefer on the heavy side. My other HG is a baby eagle (Jericho 941) in 9mm all steel and i love it. I would like a lightwieght polymer but i think in a 1911 i want to feel the weight.

Since you failed to fill out "location" in your profile, we have no idea where "around here" is.

 

Tanner's in Jamison, PA had some STI's in stock last time I was there. I believe World Class Steel, here in NJ is also a dealer.

Have not checked out the range officer yet. I hear real mixed things about Taurus. Going to spending a lot of time at the range over the next couple weeks....

So got the call today and it took shorter than i thought! so now begins the task of zeroing in on a 1911. my short list is kimber, magnum research, Springfield and taurus. who else should i check out?

i am trying to keep it under a grand.
