  1. logic and the law are not always one in the same...

Personal interpretation of the law without any set standards is a big issue also. When there are grey areas and the decision is left up to an individual officer or prosecutor that is a major problem. If the law was simple across the board it would make life easier.

  2. Apparently it is a grey area. I called the SP and they did mention the department letterhead for magazines for duty weapons and off duty weapons, but did not know what the ruling on personal weapons would be.

I did check with my departments ABC division who are in charge of issuing FID cards and they had been to the SP for training and are all under the impression that LE is exempt and can have +15 round magazines regardless of the use, duty or personal. I will have to do more research within my department, as it is a topic I am not up to speed on admittedly.

As far as the individuals that feel the need to be wise guys and take shots at me in the form of sly comments, that is a perfect example why I have not been on this site for over a year..Nice friendly community huh?

  3. other than for authorized military or law enforcement purposes by duly authorized military or law enforcement personnel

    IMO

duty related authorized by your department..

Here is another twist, Off duty weapon with 13-15 round magazines carried into NY state with their current 7 round capacity law. Technically Im a civilian in NY but authorized to carry in all 50 states by federal bill H.R. 218 Law Enforcement Safety Act. Would I be breaking the law in NY with my O.D. weapon?? LOL I am starting to agree on the stupidity of current gun laws.

  4. I was talking with a local FFL and he informed me that he could sell me high capacity magazines due the fact that I am L.E. He referred to 2C:39-9 subsection H)

    h. Large capacity ammunition magazines. Any person who manufactures, causes to be manufactured, transports, ships, sells or disposes of a large capacity ammunition magazine which is intended to be used for any purpose other than for authorized military or law enforcement purposes by duly authorized military or law enforcement personnel is guilty of a crime of the fourth degree.

Im no expert with the gun laws in depth and don't study much case law in regards to off duty L.E. having high capacity magazines for their personal weapons. Forgive me for my ignorance on this, but can some gun law gurus shed some light on this subject or point me in the right direction as far as case law?

I asked my departmental ABC officer and he said we are ok to own them. He went to a State Police course and they said not to read to much into the law and Law Enforcement is exempt from the magazine capacity restrictions with no specification on personal weapons or duty weapons personally owned. I don't want any issues owning something Im not supposed to own.

  5. I don't think I've ever ordered ammo from Midway, but I have ordered parts/accessories there and have an account. Just logged in, put some Speer gold dot 9mm JHP's in the cart and tried to check out. Immediately after selecting my "ship-to" address I got the following:

I'm then presented with the option of either changing my shipping address or removing the "restricted" items from the order.

So are some Midway customers able to order (this_is_nascar ?) and some aren't?

I have 4 boxed of Speer GoldDot Hollow points 147Gr 9mm, pm me if interested.

  6. if I asked you your opinion.. about something you were knowledgeable about..

    you provided that opinion..

you provided the reasoning behind that opinion..

but yet I continued to do something totally different.. would that not frustrate you..

a cheap red dot performs poorly in one KEY area..

some of them hold zero inconsistently.. that means today the red dot shoots good groups.. and tomorrow they are up and left.. so you waste another box of ammo re zeroing the optic.. it holds for a trip or two.. then it is down and left.. waste another box or two.. wasting time doing the SAME SHIT all over again.. it holds for 5.. 6.. 7.. 15.. 20.. range trips.. then all of the sudden it wont even turn on..

my time is valuable.. it is worth more than the 40.. 50.. 60 bucks I might save on a budget red dot... especially when you consider the ammo and time wasted chasing zero..

so see that is the issue.. I TELL you in DETAIL why it is the way it is.. and you literally ignore every word I type..

so it gets to the point where I say the following..

if you are NOT going to listen to us..

if you are NOT going to try to understand the principals behind this stuff..

why are you wasting our time..

we LOVE shooting.. we LOVE helping new shooters.. we LOVE educating..

we do NOT like to waste time.. time is money.. and time is valuable..

so stop wasting our time.. and stop wasting your own time.. it is irritating.. let us help you.. lol

really I can not stress enough.. it is NOTHING personal..

Duely noted.. I plan on getting the primary arms when I get the extra cash. Is that a good purchase?

  7. of course you did..

you asked for our opinion on Primary Arms..

we told you a quality sight (Aimpoint, Eotech etc..) was the best..

we told you that a middle of the road optic was a good compromise (Primary Arms)

so it is of no surprise to me that after asking for those opinions.. and getting answers.. that you went out and purchased a NCstar, or BSA red dot...

because that is what you tend to do...

    ask an opinion...

    get a solid technical answer..

and then do something totally different...

    SORRY but..

    I really do not understand..

The next time you ask a question I am going to give you the most ridiculous wrong answer with the hopes that you will run out and do the complete opposite, and end up with the correct solution..

and just to be clear.. I was not indicating the rail was clocked now.. I was indicating that as you shoot and wrench on it with your support hand it will likely get loose over time and once that happens.. you will begin to lose zero.. unless of course the rail proves to be quality.. but I am not familiar with its performance..

the advantage to a barrel mounted or gas block mounted front site is it is independent of the stress you may exert on the rail..

Dude, really could you stop $hitting all over me? I get it man, enough lecturing already..I picked up a POS dot sight with intention of putting it on my CX4 once I get the Primary Arms one. Plus I wanted to see if it would be as off center as my Iron sights...I also found that the front rail was on a little canted and the issue was fixed. Now I assume I will have to center it all over again.

  8. I can shoot fine with it,very good grouping, just the rear sight is adjusted to the left. When my right eye dominant right handed friend shot it, he could not hit the paper with it the way the sights are set.

Wy is it that I can shoot it fine, and I am left handed but right eye dominant. But right handed people who are right hand dominant cant hit with it?? Cant be the gun.

  9. With an AR and Irons?? Not really, unless he's going to be shooting matches..however it MAY be an indication of an ergonomic issue with his position, or hold, or even an issue with the rifle itself.

Well I put a cheap red dot sight on there for now until I get a good decent one, and keep in mind it mounts only on the rear portion of the rail and I get the same results, so the rail being tweaked is out of the question. I have to adjust it to the point it co-witnesses the iron sights to get where I want to be. Im convinced it is simply me shooting left handed and being right eye dominant. My buddy shot my gun with the iron sights and he couldnt hit a thing..lol

  10. I've got the Primary Arms multi-reticle aimpoint clone http://www.primaryar...M3M_p/pam3m.htm and love it... For the price, you can't beat it. Is it an Aimpoint??? No, of course not... but I'm also not looking to take my rifle into battle, either... So for my purposes (fun at the range) it works great. Mine has the 2 MOA dot and it is very clear, crisp dot. I also have the Primary Arms 3X magnifier with the quick disconnect mount and that works great too. Using this combo I've been able to put together very nice tight groups at 100 yds with my carbine AR.

That is the exact one I was looking at!!

  11. Their are good for what they are. They are not aimpoints, they will not take the abuse an aimpoint can take, the dots are not as clean or sharp, they are not water proofed to stupid depth although they are water resistant, the optic quality is less, and the battery life is about 1/50th of an aimpoint. They are however accurate, hold zero, have better battery life then most things on the market, they can take a moderate beating and have better quality dots then many higher price optics. If you don't expect it to go to war they are good, specially for the price.

That is exactly what I'm looking for.

  12. How are they? Im looking for a cheaper red dot sight for my AR-15 and I am on a budget, and do not want to spend $600 on an Eotech. I know Im going to get the old , "you get what you pay for" and "eotech rs god" but I really want to come in under $300 for the red dot sight and magnifier combo and was thinking of primary arms? What your views on their products?
