  1. Thank you very much for the offer. I ended up buying an all gray Glock 19 at Garden State. Tony was super nice. He told me NICS is running at least an hour and half so I came home. Just waiting for the call. Once I get it I'll post pics.I figure by the time I have the funds to cash in my second permit the M2.0's will be more readily available.

Tony is the best glad you got it from GSSC

  2. A $3,000 camera is cheaper than a $700 gun in the digital age as there are no consumables for the digital camera - the gun will consume many times what you spend on it in ammo - well at least mine do.

She hasn't complained about six figures worth of guns/optics/accessories over the past several years so if I get out of this for 3k or more I am good with that lol.

She is the frugal one so if she goes for it I am happy to oblige.

  3. If it were me I would go with the 7200, but for a new shooter the 3400 is more than good enough. You can take great pictures with either. The 7200 will let you do more stuff with dedicated buttons but you can still do them with the 3400 but may need to go into menus. Both come with what I consider kit lens, not a lot of difference between the lenses on either one. I think you could make better use of that $900 to buy a good speedlight (flash) and a good tripod. I have a D800e which is a full frame camera, but many of the pictures I take are with my old D300 and the D3400 is even better than that camera. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks for the input Howard! I think we would definitely fall into the newbie category. I do have a good Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod with 11ty adjustments on it I use for my spotter that we can put to use for this as well. I will look into quality lenses once we get accustomed to this one.

  4.

Think of the camera as you would an AR build. The lower and upper are the same on these cameras. so is the barrel and the optic!

The difference is a slightly better trigger and a whole lot of extra crap mounted to the rails. Are you going to shoot better with that much more weight

and more options......Not really! Will it become a safe queen cause it's so damn bulky and heavy that you don't want to carry it around with you? Probably!

Those are your options, in a nutshell between these two cameras IMHO!

Now you are speaking my language.

Camera will be used on vacations, to take pics of our dog, crap we do on the weekends, etc. We might get caught in rain but it won't be a wet weather camera so to speak.

The full body cameras looked substantially more expensive and I figured one of these would be a good starter. At $500 vs $1350 plus tax I was willing to go with the 7200 if there was a substantial quality difference for the price increase. Hence buying both. I knew I could return one before Xmas.

Unless someone can come up with other reasons the 7200 is worth the coin I guess I will return that one.

  5. HI guys,

Looking for advice on which model I should keep. Purchased both on bf sales as potential Xmas gifts for the gf. Will be used for recreational use.

    Both came with 2 lenses. 3400 came with 18-55 and 70-300, 7200 came with 18-55 and 55-300.

Wondering if the 7200 is worth the $900 difference between the models. Obviously I read the spec sheets between the two but camera speak isn't really my lingo.

    Any input is appreciated.

  6. I believe you're right, can't shoot the 50 without a permit from the board of directors after an interview.

You do need a special purpose badge (which I have). All that entails is going to a board meeting, agreeing that you will only shoot prone, be mindful of other shooters, and stop shooting if anyone complains. If you agree to that you get your badge and away you go.

I have had several members come up to me and tell me I can't shoot that there but once I show them the badge and remind them the bylaws were amended I never had an issue past that.

  7. Thanks. That's a good price on the G11. About $40 less than I usually see them.

I don't think the G11 will work with the dovetail. It uses the J-Arm.

I just looked it up and you are right. At least they put a tensioner in it to eliminate the wobble. Still have the wobble from the issue plastic j arm attached to the unit though.

The g11 mount probably eliminates 80% of the slop associated with a issue j arm and rhino mount though.

  8. ^ that's awesome HE!

I just saw a brand new G11 for 225 or best offer. Not sure if that's a good price or not on it bc I haven't researched them. If you want the link let me know.

Look into the Norotos dual dovetail adapter as well. If you get that and the G11 you will have a rock solid mount with no wobble anywhere.

  9. great stuff in this thread. you certainly seem to have a hell of a setup. can you give someone like me some tips to get started with this? i know next to nothing about nvg or helmets but i'm very interested. not looking to spend $10k but i could see myself being patient as you said and building up something fantastic like you have over time. problem is i have no idea how to get started

I will send you a pm with places to look and what to look for.

  10. I have 2 amber filters on the way and decided to go with the matbock tarsier eclipse over the hoplite. They are on their way as well. I also have a surefire IR light for the helmet inbound.

I have the dbal a2/peq15a as my IR laser/illuminator. Same guts as a peq15 but in the more durable metal housing.

The bridge was 550 and you can find the g24 mounts around 250-300 if you are patient. Certainly cheaper than buying a Sentinel or pvs15.

  11. Wilcox mount came in today. Much happier with the g24 vs the Norotos AKA2. Wilcox sits much closer to the helmet and when folded it is a much smaller profile.

Shout out to Mod Armory in Colorado Springs. Small company that makes great products and has excellent customer service. If you are looking into NV give them a call and talk to Nicole. She knows the products inside and out and we even went back and forth on pros/cons of different IR lasers when she knew I already owned one that fit my needs.

    Pics with the g24.

  12. I've owned both the 82 and 107. In my opinion the 107 is worth the extra coin. 5lb lighter and has an improved recoil system. Fit and finish is also better. The rifle is surprisingly comfortable to shoot, I put 70rd through it last range trip and my shoulder was good the next day.

At one point I had an 82a1 and 2 m107a1s but I am down to just the one m107a1 now. I probably should have hung on to the others lol.

If you want to shoot it let me know. CJ goes to 340yd which doesn't really stretch it out but will give you an idea what it can do.

Also, the BORS system is the tits, but the mk4 that comes on most of the rifles leaves a lot to be desired. Spring for the s&b pm2 BORS system if you are ordering from the factory.

Howell Gun Works is where I bought mine. They are a Barrett dealer and Tom is an avid Barrett enthusiast and owns one himself.

  13. so at any given time, there is 10 grand on top of your head....thats freaking awesome

If you know where to look and are patient you can put together a setup like this for way less than 10k.

You could probably do it for less than half of that.

  14. Might be a small group on here but curious what kind of NVG setups you guys are running. I recently decided to get another pvs14 and run a dual setup with a bridge mount. Love the added depth perception but found that my helmet mount (norotos AKA2) did not allow the pvs14s to fully fold onto the helmet. I ordered a new mount (wilcox g24) which should fix the issue. G24 puts the units higher up and closer to the helmet when folded.

Alternative is a pvs15 or Sentinel setup but I like the option of running a monocular on either eye and having each qd vs having a traditional bino setup.

    My setup:

    (2) Omni V ITT PVS14

    Mod Armory bridge mount

Norotos AKA2 helmet mount (being replaced with wilcox g24)

Dupont 3A high cut ballistic helmet w/ wilcox universal shroud

    Ops Core counterweight

What are you guys running? It's an expensive game to be in and want to know what is working for you guys...

Looking at new hearing protection for myself, gf, ppl I take to the range.  Already ordered the ComTac 3 for myself.  Wondering if there is anything similar in quality but not as expensive to get for ppl that don't shoot as often?  I had Howard Leight non electronic muffs I was using but after trying a guys ComTac I was sold.  Wondering what else is out there that is similar.

    Thanks for any help!
