  1. Ladies and Gents,

Any reports on this? Observations? How have your gun friends responded?

Nope. All I keep hearing is it'll never pass. I'm pretty fed up with the attitude of some gun owners in this state. They refuse to even fight for their rights, and only bitch about not having them. It's pretty pathetic if you ask me.

  2. so is this viable now or does the next phase have to happen?

when he takes executive action is it immidently in affect?

Below is an explanation from the NRA.

"Today, Governor Chris Christie took a historic step on behalf of the state’s beleaguered gun owners by vetoing A.3689 and S.816.  These two anti-gun bills were opposed by NRA in recent weeks but were ultimately adopted by anti-gun politicians in Trenton.  Gov. Christie issued conditional vetoes which return the bills back to the Legislature with suggested language, which if adopted, would drastically improve a pair of draconian gun laws.  If the Legislature rejects the Governor’s suggested amendments, the bills will die.

Today’s action solidifies earlier action by Governor Christie with respect to the state’s “justifiable need” standard for the issuance of a concealed carry permit.  Under current law, the state’s standard is so onerous that it requires applicants to prove a specific threat.  The law has the net effect of blocking virtually all concealed carry applications.  However, the Christie Administration issued an executive order earlier this year which made an incremental improvement to the state’s issuance of concealed carry permits by requiring a showing of only a more generalized threat.  In retaliation, anti-gun lawmakers fast tracked A.3689 to codify the “justifiable need” standard claiming “legislative intent” where neither have been proven to previously exist.  Rather than “freeze” a bad standard into law for all time, today’s positive reform would significantly improve a broken concealed carry law which has always devalued the constitutional right to self-defense.

Also, the reworked smart gun legislation would remove the 2002 Smart Gun law's mandate, which threatens a backdoor gun ban once smart guns are certified as commercially viable by banning all future traditional handgun sales.  In addition to removing the 2002 mandate, Christie’s conditional veto also strikes the bill’s new mandate that forces gun dealers to offer smart guns for sale, thereby blocking any attempt to ban traditional handguns.  NRA previously testified that the bill forced market acceptance of a technologically unviable product which is harmful for self-defense and is nothing more than a tricky gun ban.

This transformation would move New Jersey into conformity with the vast majority of other states which value the right to self-defense and have strong carry laws.  Governor Christie has expressed to us that, “for decades, law-abiding residents of New Jersey have had their Second Amendment right to self-protection burdened by gun laws that are among the most unreasonable in the country. . . .  Rather than doubling down on the unreasonable requirements for law-abiding residents of New Jersey to obtain a concealed carry permit, I propose having New Jersey join the 42 other states that have adopted a “shall-issue” standard for approving such applications.”

Please contact your state Senator and Assembly members and respectfully urge them to support the changes offered by the Governor in today’s veto message.  Encourage your family, friends and fellow gun owners to do the same."

  3. It's not a grandstanding move. This moves forces the Legislature to accept the changes, or have their bills die. So either way, it's a win or win big situation for gun rights in NJ.

ETA: I'm not saying this is going to pass, but this is the closest we've been to becoming a Shall Issue state. At the very least, the anti gun bills die.

  4. Maybe it's REALLY good forecasting.

Alternately it could just be predicting weather that already happened.  That's how they're so spot on.

Nope. Not really good forecasting. Just me always getting Labor Day and Memorial Day mixed up.

  5. What isn't as good as the M&P?   The ergos?

This is just my opinion but I feel the M&P has the best ergonomics on any pistol I've held, including the ppq. I also like the lower bore axis of it as well. Having said that, the ppq has a much superior trigger and a tighter barrel lockup than the M&P. My M&P 9 Pro's dwell time was almost non existent, causing the barrel to move around in any given direction before the bullet left it.

  6. I will definitely look into the Dawson sights later on today, they have a great accuracy warranty for sure - someone also mentioned 10-8 Performance sights, their website is blocked at work for me though but I will check later (some "weapons" sites are blocked and some aren't - for example I can go to Walther Arms website, but not Glock Talk, Glock website, but not S&W, its pretty stupid)

That was the only thing I was worried about was the POI/POA since its such an accurate shooter out of the box - I wouldn't want to lose that, and reading reviews on the Meprolight sights, and the Trijicon Bright and Tough, I'm finding some were having trouble getting back to zero.  TFX's I haven't read that which is why I asked about them.

I don't have a sight pusher but I wouldn't mind paying a gunsmith to press in a new rear sight for me.  or if anyone on the boards has a pusher that would work for the PPQ that I could borrow

If the stock sights are POA/POI, ordering the same height sights shouldn't change it.

  7. He posted at 2am. I literally woke up and called my uncle. Told the wife and said I'd buy two spots for his carbine course in PA. When I got to work only one spot was open so I quickly picked up two spots to the handgun course outside Pittsburgh. After I paid that was sold out too. I heard the CT class sold out in 5 minutes. 2:05 am

I was slightly bummed taking the pistol course over the carbine course even though I realize pistol training for a civilian is probably significantly more important. I'm just really bad with a pistol. And I haven't shot one in months since the baby came. At least I have a year to get to the point it isn't so bad. I just have to be good enough not to make any safety issues. I don't mind being the lowest scoring in class.

More of a reason to take the pistol course. No sense in hiding from your deficiencies. ;)

  8. The members matches are usually 5 stages instead of the 6 for public matches, they also start a half hour earlier at 8:30 instead of 9:00.  It's usually done sooner too because there is a smaller crowd which is why I go to most of the members only and skip the public ones because of the larger number of shooters that show up.  But that's just me.

Thanks Zack. So are members allowed to bring a guest? I ask b/c on CJ's club website, it states members and guests only. But on CJ steel website, it states members only.

  9. It says on Central Jersey steel they're having the members-only match this Sunday. The special steel matches are really good time. That usually have a man versus man race side event or just a knock down stage.

Thanks louu. Are the members only steel matches worth going to? Can I bring a guest as well?

ETA: Just read it's Members Only with no guests it seems. Is this match worth going to? How does it differ from the regular Steel Matches?

  10. Like someone else mentioned, the M&P can run as dry as the desert heat. But if you want to keep it lubed without oil seepage, use ball bearing grease. It stays on put, and lasts forever. I find that it also makes cleaning easy as all the carbon gets mixed in with the grease instead of sticking to the gun itself. A simple wipe takes off the grease and the carbon. Just be sure to use as little grease as possible. If you want to stick with oil, the seepage is normal.

  11. Correct. The solution, as with our gun gripes, is to elect quality people to the legislature. We don't. We lack the will. We believe in short cuts like stupid idiotic nonsensical and utterly useless email campaigns. Then we feel good about ourselves and live to gripe another day. End of story.

That I agree with as well. Even with gun rights, we lack the will. Instead of getting out and actually doing something, we just sit here and bitch about it and argue about the true intents of the few out there who are actually fighting for our rights.

As for the nonsensical and utterly useless email campaigns, I also agree. But what harm is there in signing a petition? Does it make me feel good about myself? Not really. In fact, I've forwarded it to many people with a note attached saying, "I doubt this will do anything, but let's voice our displeasure anyway". It's better than nothing, b/c we both know New Jersians are too lazy or scared to get off their fucking asses and march down to Trenton and demand change. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If NJ gun owners had half the balls the BLM movement does, we'd actually accomplish something.

  12. Arithmetic and research are not strong points in these forums. Here's the article: http://usat.ly/2a0HNgV

Turns out we're about 3x the national average, not 14 as you write. Give the state some slack in that every major road is more highly constrained than is I-80 in rural Nebraska. We have a lot of such roads, e.g. Rtes 22 and 17 whereas most of this country is open space. As is noted here (http://bit.ly/2a0I5US) the cost per mile rapidly goes up as a function of how many lanes you're talking about. You can't compare paving a two-lane country road with Rte. 80.

There is of course lots of room for improvement. The article mentions prevailing wages and work rules. Good luck lowering wages of construction workers. Anyone who has ever driven past a pothole repair is familiar with NJ work rules. You have two guys holding STOP/GO signs, a foreman doing nothing, an assistant foreman watching the foreman, three people on break and two who are actually working. Oh and don't forget at least one squad car with at least one Hero on triple overtime to pad his already obscene pension.

I'll repeat over and over until I'm blue in the face: These issues are all related. The gun shit is part of it. It's a package, a NJ Surprise that's shoved up our asses every day. Pain is the only thing that will force us to get off our asses and elect decent people. You can email Christie and Sweeney from underneath a sprinkler until it spouts vodka.

I agree with everything you just wrote here. My confusion is how you're ok with a gas tax hike despite everything you just posted.

  13. I've lived in this state for 62 years. No lectures needed on ass-rape. Mine is as wide as the Lincoln Tunnel's. Between real estate, income, and sales taxes we pay a living wage to Trenton each year. However the waste and corruption in NJ are an entirely different issue. IF the gas tax goes toward fixing our transportation infrastructure then we most certainly need it. It has not been raised in decades. If we paid for things when the bill came due instead of deferring the pain as we now do taxpayers would realize what's going on, and maybe elect different assholes to the legislature. Borrow and spend is even worse than tax and spend because it fools people into believing that "deficits don't matter" (the 1980s mantra by which Reagan got away with massive deficits).

I agree that borrowing is not the solution either. But neither is continuing to tax the people and forcing them to pay for the fucking incompetence in Trenton.

  14. Enough with the fucking petitions to Sweeney.

We need the gas tax hike. Time to start paying for things like adults instead of borrowing. The notion that raising the gas tax by reasonable amounts somehow hurts our economy is totally F.O.S. During the past few years the price of gas has been all over the place. Nobody died. The ambulances still ran. Trucks still delivered VapR cartridges. People drove to work when the price was $2.50 just like they're driving now at $2.00. 10,000 miles/year  / 25mpg = 400 gallons = $200/year for the average driver. One month's cable bill. One big family dinner at Angelo's Italian Bistro. I don't mean this personally to Sig but grow up, guys. Everybody at the Borrow-and-Spend Orgy got herpes.

Time to start paying for things like adults? I already pay more than my fair share. NJ already ranks 50 out of 50 states in highest overall taxes paid. How much more do we have to get bent over and take it in the ass because those in our state's government are either to inept or too greedy to get the job done. Just to give you a small example. Our street in being paved right now. It's not a large or long street. We received notice that the paving would be done in one day. They were to start this past Thursday at 7AM. Well, they didn't start til after 9AM. Then, they said, "Sorry, we won't be able to finish today. We'll be back tomorrow to finish". Tomorrow comes around, and they don't even bother showing up. So now we have to go through at least the weekend, driving on unpaved, uneven roads. It's the ineptitude of government that causes shit like this to happen, and causes our taxes to go up every fucking year. Maybe you're not sick of getting raped, but I am.

Do you really believe this won't have a negative effect on things? When the prices of gas goes up, so does everything else. You think the companies that delivery goods will eat the cost? Of course not. That burden falls on us as the consumer.
