One problem is that lots of us are leaving NJ. If I could I would. And that just leaves the anti's here. Good luck NJ.

Jill Stein Can’t ‘Guarantee’ Money Will Go to Recount, Changes $$$ Goal
"We cannot guarantee a recount will happen in any of these states we are targeting. We can only pledge we will demand recounts in those states.""If we raise more than what’s needed, the surplus will also go toward election integrity efforts and to promote voting system reform."

Scalia: Guns Aren't Just for Crimes
"The attitude of people associating guns with nothing but crime, that is what has to be changed," Scalia told the audience of about 2,000."I grew up at a time when people were not afraid of people with firearms," said Scalia, noting that as a youth in New York City he was part of a rifle team at the military school he attended."I used to travel on the subway from Queens to Manhattan with a rifle," he said. "Could you imagine doing that today in New York City?"

Edit: one more thing... I also have a length of pipe in the car...so if I'm in a dead zone and can't get AAA on the phone, I can at least get a little leverage on the lug nuts of a wheel - to compensate for my lack of muscle.
Not just for the weak. The lug wrench handles can't be more than 6" long (OK maybe a bit longer but they feel like 6"). No way to get any leverage without the pipe. The manufacturers are probably trying to save weight, space, and money but my 24" pipe makes up for that.

Our government spends a lot on FEMA so we might as well use them:
One item I noticed on their site that I don't think was mentioned was some non-perishable food like energy bars).

A little bit different. Justice Scalia used to bring his 22 rifle on the subway in NY going to school.

Well, not quite. You have to have a "learner's permit" to "practice" driving. You apply for that at the Agency (most Driver's Ed. programs at high schools will do that for you). Then you must pass the written test and vision check. I assume you should have also had some education in driving, somewhere to be able to pass the written test, if not high school driver's ed. Once you pass the written test and vision check, the permit is then stamped for "practice driving," where you can drive with another licensed driver riding "shotgun." You should be able to bring any car to the road test as long as you have the registration and insurance card with you.
At least, that's how it worked when I got my NJ DL in the mid 70's
Sure, you can. As long as you have the car's registration and insurance card with you when you take it. I used my father's VW Beetle to take the road test at the Lodi office.
I think Howard was being sarcastic in his post.

Welcome to NJ which has less 2A rights than most states.
As long as the guns are NJ compliant you can transport them to your home in NJ with no paperwork (unloaded and locked in the trunk of your car). I believe that MA firearms are NJ compliant but others who have more info will chime in.
There is almost no way you can get a carry license in NJ. Most likely not even an option.
You should get your FPID (Firearm Purchase ID) which gives you some rights and allows you to purchase long arms. You apply at your local PD or if none then the state police. If you want to purchase a pistol then you have to apply for a Permit To Purchase each pistol (with some limitations).
Read some of the sticky posts on the forum to get much more detailed info.

The 1st does not protect slander.
Not quite the same thing. Bad acts have consequences. Slander is usually not a crime but a tort that you can be sued for. The right to keep and bear arms is the only right that people somehow feel can be abridged before a bad act is done. I have a constitutional right and if I abuse it and commit a crime then I should be punished.

If you use the NRA-ILA website it is super easy to send a personalized email to all members of the NJ Assembly Law & Public Safety Committee:

One major difference: The right to bear arms is protected by the second amendment.

Faithless elector
"During the 1836 election, Virginia's entire 23-man electoral delegation faithlessly abstained from voting for victorious Democratic vice presidential nominee Richard M. Johnson due to Johnson's openly admitted, publicized, long-term interracial relationship with his slave, octoroon Julia Chinn. The loss of Virginia's support caused Johnson to fall one electoral vote short of a majority, causing the Vice Presidential election to be thrown into the U.S. Senate for the only time in American history. However, Virginia's electors voted for Democratic presidential nominee Martin Van Buren as pledged, meaning the presidential election itself was not in dispute. The U.S. Senate ultimately elected Johnson anyway after a party-line vote.""Despite 157 instances of faithlessness as of 2015, faithless electors have not yet affected the results or ultimate outcome of any other election for President and Vice President of the United States."

A person can 'Gift" a firearm to another but that person must be legally
able to obtain the firearm in his/her state.
Example; You can purchase a firearm for your dad for Christmas, but it must
be transferred legally 9HG permit or Coe, ect.)
If you purchase the firearm yourself and just give it to your dad - that is a
straw purchase.......
Would this be a straw purchase or an illegal transfer?
In this case it can't be legally transferred as it is an illegal "assault weapon".
Is there a legal way out of the situation? If the weapon was made inoperable (possibly by removing the firing pin and disposing of it) back in the 90's when the assault weapon ban was enacted then it would not be an assault weapon and could be sold/transferred. Paperwork would have had to been submitted back then, and since it wasn't that would have been an issue but probably one that no one would care about now. So if the op verifies that the rifle was permanently modified back in the 90's I think he is OK for the family friend to have it sold via an FFL.
Maines "constitutional carry" law, or is it?

You still might want to consider getting a Maine carry permit (I have one and it is very easy to obtain). Without this permit you would not be allowed to carry within a 1000 feet of a school under Federal Law (there are other details I have omitted).
This is probably true in any constitutional carry state.
