  1. I usually only get to go on weekends, but i got off tomorrow and thinking of taking a ride. anyway, they open at 1300 on fridays correct? and if its scattered showers do they shut down? how does it work during rain? if its light then ok to shoot? weather looks like its gonna break right around 1300. figured i give it a chance.

    thanks

  2. thanks for the info. gonna be a busy weekend so wanted to try and get some range time in early (just got my new trijicon scope). doesn't look good for me to get out there this weekend i guess as I'm leaving for vacation monday. but i appreciate the offers on the guesting. maybe i can take someone up on that another time. maybe ill just goto range 14 for the day. 60 dollars there to join and 60 for efga will still work for me and i have a couple of spots to go to!

  3. So I think for the price the range is enough for me right now and after some of the comments in the cr thread I had I think I'm gonna skip it.

But had a couple of questions

Can I sign up online and shoot the next/same day?

Are there target stands there already?

Do they sell paper targets at the range?

As I know no one from this range. Do they offer a day pass to try?

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to get there tomorrow 7/11

  4. wow, thats some feedback. ty. being in union county, I'm just trying to find a range within an hour (or so) so i can shoot my ar and pistol.i'd love to get a little movement, draw from holster but its not a deal breaker by any means. and while I'm not the most seasoned shooter and am all for safety, i don't want to be treated like an ass either. i just don't know where to go...

my buddy takes me down to dix and its ok but if he's there and i go somewhere else, we would be able to switch it up now and again

  5. so I'm thinking about joining this range. but had a couple of questions if someone knows as i didn't see it in the faqs etc on the site

so i pay my orientation and membership fees. do i need to pay to use the range after that? or do i just show up and have at it?

is there any moving while shooting, pistol/rifle? draw from holster? or is this just a plinking range?

what do people think of this range?

  6. Why not? You learn a ton by watching other shooters.

    ...

I'd find a day you can commit to attending, and email the director a few days ahead of time and let him know you're coming, you're a prospective member, and you want to observe and/or shoot, and go from there.

i meant it as i could watch for a shooter or three but id get to into it and want a go at it...

the second part is very good advice

  7. So have a thread about obrpc and want to get down there to check out the club. but I'm also thinking of just going to a match, shooting and checking it out then. Don't think i could/want to watch.

anyway I'm thinking about picking up a holster and mag pouches to get down to an event. question is i have 2/15 round mags (pinned so they can't be cleaned). what is the max round count for idpa/uspsa. I'm thinking i may want to buy some 10 rounders so i can clean them since they will spend time on the ground and keep the 15 rounders for plinking/HD.

second question is what is a good event for me to show up for. don't want to sign up for something too advanced. Also i have an AR (just iron sights for right now), are there any events for that platform?

  8. wow, loaning equip for matches??? that does sound like a friendly range. and i would never expect free ammo, especially in this climate. (although it sounds like if i join i may burn through a lot!!! :) )

the more you type the more questions arise lol.

when you say stow your target frames, do you mean if i make/buy something i can leave it at the range? i don't need to keep transporting it?

my son is 9, will he be able to shoot? again, i'm new to this and not sure of the laws around it, but once I'm comfortable i would eventually like to get him into the sport as well. also, if he can go, it may be 3,4,5 times in a year probably, does he need a full membership?

i know 12 hours isn't much and could most likely fulfill that, but with working up north and coaching sports for my son, if i come up a bit short on that time do i really forfeit my membership

lets say in a couple of sundays from now i go to the open house and decide i like it and want to join. what do i pay out at that time.... then in 6 months how much...... and the next year is just 384? i know you answered it but I'm gonna need to show the wife all the math. as range 14 is 60 bucks plus 8 every time. but adding in driving/gas/time etc i may be able to justify the difference with the wife (ugggg)

    and i appreciate your patience

  9. Sounds really interesting and I may swing by to check it out. Just that initial cost (300 + 328) that is scary.

But as you stated. I really would like to get into the meets and competitions

Oh and as for targets are the stands provided? Or do I need to make them? Think range 14. It's the only place I have been and this is my first season I'm shooting

Sorry if I'm all over but work blocks all these sites and I'm trying to use tapatalk :)

  10. maybe i missed it, but looking at the site i see the requirements and cost for membership. but aside from that, what is the cost to shoot each time i show up? also is the a time limit? and can i bring a guest(s) and the cost?

and for those that are members, what help is needed to meet the 12 hours of giveback time?

    thanks

  11. Spikes Dynacomp isn't that loud... It directs the blast away from you.... Not to the sides or back... You don't get a concussive thump like some brakes (I've seen/heard/felt this with the YHM Phantom)

Compare for yourself.  Is the BCM Battle Comp REALLY worth 2x the price?

was just able to watch the vid. i can't hear the diff between the 2. spikes may now be on the list

  12. ^^ This!

That's exactly why I don't want to spend more than 100 bucks on this.

2 reasons I'm getting one is the barrel I want to get is threaded and 2 I would like to do some 3 gun etc so any help I can get I will take.

Do you think getting the bcm is a high risk?

Wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to pin but once welded it will be on for a while

  13. that troy medevil looks pretty cool, not may reviews come up on it regarding muzzle rise (my main concern)  but the price is definitely nice.

but heres the question, what would cause any officer to think any of these are flash hiders vs comp/breaks. Any cop could mistake the PWS or otherwise to be a flash hider and we would have to get a lawyer to prove otherwise. Are we/am i, over thinking this as in the end regardless of whats at the end of the rifle it is subject to someones opinion?

  14. thanks, i just did a search on the spikes vs battlecomp as they looked the same. everyone states its louder than the battlecomp. so maybe not really what I'm looking for, unless i just pony up another 80 bucks and get the BC.

  15. So I'm about to buy the last pieces of my build and one of them is slowing me down. that is the compensator. So i know to be safe, i should get the PWS or the battlecomp, but all the reviews state how loud they are and the blow back towards the shooter.

i would like one that pushes the gas more to the sides rather than back and 2 something that doesn't exacerbate the noise 10 fold. I understand the rifle may get louder, but i don't need it to sound like a howitzer.

so the battlecomp appears from all pictures to no doubt pass the pinky test but the price is 2 and 3 times more than others

the PWS was passed by the atf  but not sure how that passes the pinky test per the pics

so with that info are there any others to look at sub 100 dollars that will aid in muzzle rise reduction, not sound like a howitzer and not blow my hat off? i was looking at the BCM gunfighter as its labeled a compensator but in previous threads i read its gtg but use at your own risk. not very comforting.

    thanks for any help

  16. I'm hoping its not too late to resurrect this thread. I'm looking at the BCM Mod0 comp. but unsure of the legality. in my search for the answer and came across this thread and see that the BCM was among those tested. does this mean the BCM mod 0 or 1 is good to go in NJ??? so close to finishing my build any help would be great.

  17. With practice you can be about as fast with a pump as with a semi auto...... Still I like my Semi auto 12ga's.  I picked up a Mossberg 930 JM Pro, took the tube off at the FFL and replaced it with a +2 extension so I'm at 6+1.

i just started looking at shotguns. i eventually want to get into 3gun but love clays right now. i am looking at the 930jm . anyway can you pm me the part number you used for the +2. did you go with 22 or 24 inch for 3 gun. also how do you like it....

  18. Steve was awesome to work with and really made the whole experience of a FFL transfer great. I was a little nervous of buying my first handgun off the internet from a company in Texas, (Lanbos armory turned out to be great with good pricing and fast shipping) and having to do a inter state transfer (hoping that the 2 parties synced and didn't turn out to be a huge wait).

Steve was courteous and answered my emails promptly. He dealt with all my stupid questions i had as well as my impatience. Bottom line is, when i can give him business he will definitely get it and thats with a 35 min drive

  19. Steve from Monmouth Arms has been very helpful and is most likely getting my money (thanks Steve). My dilemma is to go 40 or 9. On the regular M&P, guys are swapping the 40 barrel out for the 9 stock barrel and having he best of both worlds. trying to find out if it can be done on the 5 inch pro series as well
