  1. Wow you must be rich as sugar to be abl to go to Utah to try out a hi-cap Saiga magazine1 That must be the bomb diggity. Can I borrow some money???? I bought my pop a S12 and did my best outfitting it but I still need an Aimpoint or EOTech (maybe even a Mepro M21 or a Trijicon Reflex) ... So since you're rich could you hook me up please?

kthxbai brother! LEt me know when to expect that paypal.

I'm not rich; I just have my priorities straight. :) My brother has all my NJ naughty list stuff. I don't go to Utah too often, though. My shooting trip would normally have to coincide with a major event like a funeral, or a wedding, or a BYU-Utah game (aka, the Holy War).

One of the coolest things about traveling to Utah is that I can carry a loaded weapon concealed in my vehicle without a license. http://www.sltrib.com/ci_12345824

  2. Thanks. A few things you can expect from me:

    The Good:

Honesty--You'll always know the exact status of your order, and I won't make up stories about the firearms I sell.

Flexibility and an open mind-- I once called a shop in PA (one that used to operate in NJ) that refused to sell me a Saiga 12 because they are "based on an AK47 platform" and "not legal in New Jersey." I protested that plenty of people owned them and that I had purchased them in New Jersey in the past, but the manager didn't want to hear it. I will always confirm facts conclusively before I give you a final answer. I'll also consider trades.

Competitive prices-- If you're willing to work with me, I'll work with you. I would like volume as opposed to a few "one off scores"

Friendliness--We've all met gun a shop hero behind the counter who treats people like they're an inconvenience. I won't make you feel uncomfortable unless you don't have a sense of humor.

    The Bad:

Limited hours--I'm not going to cater to walk-in traffic. I leave that role to my competitors down the road.

Limited knowledge of manufacturing processes, metallurgy, ballistics, and the minutiae of gunsmithing-- I'll do my best to answer your questions, and I'll sub out the smithing work to competent partners.

Very limited inventory--I am a small-time operator, but I'll try to stock a few popular firearms and a few "interesting guns." Give me some time to get some momentum.

A location that is a little remote for many forum members. The upside is that the municipality is gun friendly.

  3. I have a new Saiga 12 and I have a case of this stuff I bought to split between my the new Saiga 12 (I gave it to the old man for Christmas, let him use the magazine fed one he absolutely loves it lol), my new 870 TacMag, and my standy-hotness M930SPX, I haven't tried it out yet but, it looks like its pretty standard, hi quality, full power, 9-pellet, dark green hulled 00 Buck. I can't say it'd be for practice (other than confirming cycle and spread) because it's , waht, it was $4.99 a box of 5 when I bought a lot of it, now it's appearing online and in stores for $5.99 minimum... but I'd load up our mags and keep it for HD.

(Having 17 Saiga-12 magazines requires alot of good ammo for HD :p)

I can't wait to try out my MD arms drum next time I go to Utah.

  4. Have you ever read my user title? This hot college student will work for ammo or guns, figure if any NJGF member were to offer those as payment, I wouldn't feel guilty spending that extra money on that stuff anyway!

It's not necessarily the administration. Even though I'm a biology major, I was required to take a "Humanities" course, or Social Science or something. Anyway, I took sociology, and we actually had an extensive discussion on how, when conducting research sociologists are supposed to be VERY careful in how they word their questions, since wording things a certain way easily skews results. It's actually a VERY common tactic for proponents of a certain ideology (on both sides) to have poll questions worded in purposely muddled ways so as to skew the data in favor of their stance. The polling companies really don't give a shit, as long as they get paid.

An example of such a question would be, "Do you oppose the use of dihydrogen-monoxide as a food additive?" The wording makes the person being polled more likely to answer "Yes" due to using a chemical name that sounds more threatening than if I said "Water."

Rasmussen has some integrity. On a different note, what sort of skills do you have? I could use a mason, among other things.

  5. TOTALLY beyond my price right now, but I'd love a Luger. I mean that has got to be the coolest handgun ever made. Too bad no company has ever made a quality reproduction, something which baffles me. I mean if they could get a decently priced reproduction, maybe offer them in .45ACP, they'd make a mint.

I know some company reproduced them, but apparently they sucked. But the originals are just so damn cool, only drawback being their sights, but they're great because the grip is designed so that as soon as it's brought up out of the holster, it's lined up to shoot.

Yeah, I need to make more money, and try for a P226/P229. Of course, with the way NJ is handling PPP and all that jive right now, even if I had the cash, it would be months before I could get one anyway. Still, I'm always of the opinion that any purchase should be thought about for a long time beforehand.

Yeah, I waited to buy a Five Seven. Look where that got me. :)

  6. 5.7mm?

A waste at this point, considering the trend in magazine capacity limits.....and some ranges forbid it's use on their backstops (like Old Bridge) so it's an outdoors gun only....

And to answer your question (if you actually asked one), YES!

I wouldn't say it's a waste. I have some standard capacity magazines outside the state. I also have NJ capacity magazines so I can shoot in this state. I like more than the capacity, though. I like that it shoots the same ammo as my rifle. Forutnately I can shoot either at RTSP. With the Levang compensator, my AR-57 the report of the Five Seven round was comparable to that of the GSG 22 (not mine) we were shooting, so the staff allowed us to use one of the pistol lanes. We probably should not have been permitted to shoot my 500 Smith ammo in the pistol lane. It's a little loud.

My question was sincere. :) Good to know. I've lived here only since 2006, so bear with me.

  7. Well if you want to connect History and Guns, then you MUST have a 1911 if not now when you get the money. There is no more historic pistol......Colt and Kimber are among the best for the price...You can go cheaper "but"...You can get a custom "Wilson" (mine is coming within weeks) - but save this expensive 1911 for your min-life crissis (like me! ;-)).

I believe RTSP is a master dealer for Wilson Combat.

  8. One question I walked away from was "in the 2014 elections what would you say is your most important issue? Gun control, the economy, immigration, gay rights, national debt, etc." For me Gun rights are number one, the economy is number two. I said the economy because had I said "gun control" it could have been used to frame a response meaning X percent of people consider "gun control" as an important election issue as if they all supported greater restriction. It is my number one issue because I support fewer restrictions!

The same thing distortions of public opinion happened when Obama went after Bill Clinton's DADT policy: http://www.washingto...eback-barracks/

The administration tried to twist survey results to indicate that 70 percent of soldiers had no problem with ending DADT. The soldiers I have served almost universally align with General Conway: http://www.dakotavoi...-unit-cohesion/

Why do I bring this up? This is the MO of the administration. Give a weak, distorted misrepesentation of popular sentiment as some excuse for carrying out unconstitutional and inappropriate actions. The media lap this stuff up without a thought of skepticism or even cursory fact checking.

  9. Normally, I couldn't be bothered with phone surveys but realized it was about gun control so I decided to take it.

They asked very biased questions i.e. "do you support efforts to prevent civilians [as opposed citizens or "legal residents"] from owning assault weapons [What is an assault weapon? Sounds evil.] and high-capacity [i thought the bans would restrict standard capacity magazines like 30-round rifle mags and 15-round pistol mags] magazines meant for use by the military and police [if these weapons were meant for "military and police" only as this question implies, why do manufacturers sell these through channels like Bass Pro and Wal-Mart that eclipse military channels in sales?]", "do you support a ban on private sales at gun shows" etc.

The person taking the survey seemed to be getting a little annoyed with my answers and my failure to fall into a number of trap questions which covered Obama, Bloomberg, the NRA, John Runyan, assault weapons, BHO's recent executive orders, private gun sales, armed guards/police at schools and the 2012 and 2014 elections.

I hope I made a dent in their numbers, at least I took a spot from some drone would have fallen for their misleading style of questioning.

Typical push poll garbage---see the key words in bold and my editorial comments in brackets.

  10. Oh yeah, one more thing. If you decide you can't afford to buy a pistol in the near future, at least buy the 15 round magazines to go with the pistols you're considering. Fortunately, the Masterpiece Arms Defender I bought takes Five Seven mags, so I'm golden if we get hit with a capacity limit that permits grandfathering. My brother in a free state has all my 15+ capacity mags . . . I'm holding out hope that some day I'll be able to use them in our state if not . . . I'll be able to use them if I ever move to northeastern PA.

  11. Good to hear a young person like you wants to get into sports sgooting...First, be safe, practice safty rules, learn your equipment inside out. (And don;t watch video games ;-))...This is truly a character building sport (even at my "deep" middle age), somthing the GunGrabers will never understand...Contratulations on thinking ahead!

I recomend going with quality...I understand you may not be able to afford say an all steel 1911...Check out the Springfield XD line. I have an XDs now "pocket-pistol" 3.3" barrel, and a XDM-Competition 5.3" barrel on order.-They have many XD sizes in between to fit your needs. I am extreemly impressed with this line of semi-autos. The ergenomics are (hum it chocks me up to say) better than 1911's (the "Gold" standard). And the 3.3 inch 45 cal can hit all A's on an USPSA target at 25 yards (I did this :-))...They are at a very good price point 500-700$ and Springfield gives you a lifetime warrenty...Better to spend a couple of hundred bucks more for a brand-name - a gun that will literally last your whole life....There are many viable other options out there, but the XD line is one I can speak too (most my other pistols are 1911 which may be beyond your budget at this point in your life)...

Let us know how you make out.

Springfield XD45. I love the ergonomics of this weapon. Compared to my old Glock 22 (sold to my brother), I actually look like I know what I'm doing when I shoot the XD. Granted, the .40S&W is not the same round, giving you unpleasant, sharp muzzle flip, but I think the "safe action" was what hurt my precision. I would second combat auto's praise for the ergonomics. I bought my 4" XD-45 in OD/Black for like $375 a about three years ago in basically unfired condition.

  12. I've had offers on my NIB factory Saiga 12 in excess of $1200. You don't particularly want to give up an item singled out on "the list," but market conditions can really tempt you to sell your collection. If I've been offered $1200, I'm sure you can get more with your accessories if you're patient. I know a couple of guys who were looking for one. I can put you in touch with them. If you want to "help a brother out," $900 to a $1000 is a fair price given the demand.

  13. Apparently the PMR-30 is going for as much as $1500 these days. So much for the poor man's Five-Seven, huh? Distributors are charging MSRP now.

I really regret not buying a Five-Seven back when they could be found in the $900 range, especially since I own an AR-57 upper. I bought a Masterpiece Arms Defender at a quarter of the cost of a Five Seven, just so I could get a pistol in the same caliber. I know they have nothing else in common.

On a different note, my all-around favorite weapon is my XD-45. I don't even have to try to be precise with the XD, and the ergonomics are great for me.

I also recommend the Ruger Mark II/III and 22/45. Check out this one:
