    I want to know too. What is NJ2AS stance on each bill? I agree that the NJ2AS seems to be the only organization that is interested in protecting our rights in NJ but it's reasonable to know where the organization stands on the issues.

     

    I can't in good conscious throw my support behind an organization unless I know that my beliefs are closely aligned with theirs. So far (I'm a new NJ2AS member), the only official position I've seen on legislation (Manchin-Toomey) is one I did not agree with.

     

    Edit: Checked my old emails. It was not NJ2AS that officially supported Manchin-Toomey, it was CCRKBA. My apologies to NJ2AS.

    Without a stock, you may not purchase it from a dealer if you are under 21, as it is not considered a shotgun by definition. It is a pistol gripped firearm per Federal Law.

     

    Is it a shotgun under NJ law?

     

    Do I have to burn a P2P on one?

    Does it count toward my one gun per month?

    Can I transport with FID or does it need to be transported with all the same restrictions as a handgun?

    PA issues non-resident concealed carry permits. However, if your home state is one that issues ccw permits, you can't get a PA non-resident permit unless you first have one from your home state.

     

    NJ is officially a may-issue state (even though in practice they're a no-issue state). Because NJ law allows the issue of ccw permits, and none of us can get one, I always thought we weren't eligible for a PA-non resident permit.

     

     

    I met a guy today that claimed to have been issued a PA-non resident permit and is a NJ resident. He told me that PA understands that NJ is really a no-issue state and will issue NJ permits. He certainly seemed to be an honest guy and I don't have any reason to believe he was BS-ing me. Did he slip through the cracks and just get lucky? did he have a surprisingly sympathetic county in PA that bent a rule? or Is he right and PA considers NJ to be a no-issue state and will grant us non-resident permits? I ask because it seems that the PA Attorney General is slowly eliminating the recognition of all other state's non-resident permits.

    As a teenager, I made a potato gun and filled the 2" diameter - 4' long barrel with water. I wrapped the muzzle end in plastic wrap and tape and went out intent on soaking the cat.

     

    I met Newton. Turns out that 2 gallons of water is heavier than a pvc potato canon. The water just about stayed still while the gun flew backwards, torn from my arms , tearing my favorite shirt and knocking me down. I feel for this kid.

    the police may arrest you for driving the speed limit.. there might be a cop out there that feels that is the absolute limit.. meaning you have to be under it.. do you drive 5mph UNDER everywhere you go just in case you encounter that one nuts cop?

     

    No but...

    (1) different levels of risk: a traffic ticket compared to 5 years for unlawful possession.

    (2) I have no reason to think I'll ever be stopped and searched so I personally am comfortable just complying with the law and no more. But everyone should know that there is some risk involved in doing that - even though there should not be.

    If you think a LEO might detain you because you have loaded magazines, which isn't illegal, what makes you think that is any more of a reason then anything else? If they are willing to detain you for the lawful activity of having loaded magazines on the way to the range, they are willing to detain you for anything.

     

    But, as has been discussed on this forum before, LEOs don't always know the law and rarely understand the small nuances of the law. They're job is to keep the peace - that may mean arresting you if they think you present a danger because you have a firearm within reach in a vehicle or are transporting loaded mags. It is then the prosecutor who is supposed to understand the law and decide whether to bring charges. Even that step is little consolation considering some of the recent prosecutions for nonsense.

     

    There's what the law says on one hand and what the police, prosecutor, and judges imagine the law really means on the other. Often very, very different things.

     

    I met a guy once who believed the federal government didn't have the authority to collect income tax. He explained his legal basis for this and frankly, it was pretty solid - in my lay interpretation. But he had one problem: it doesn't matter if he's right or wrong, the IRS, FBI, and federal courts, and prisons will arrest, prosecute, sentence, and house him if he doesn't pay the taxes.

    We're fighting the fight in a way that we can't possibly ever win. The "other side" proposes a dozen more gun control bills. We show up and argue against the bills, plead with our representatives not to pass the bill, try to amass enough bodies to be taken seriously, and hope that they listen to us.

     

    But there are only two possible outcomes - a proposal becomes law or it doesn't. If a proposal becomes law, it further erodes our rights. But if we manage to block one, it doesn't work in our favor, it just leaves us where we were before.

     

    There is no option where we can ever hope to actually win something!

     

    As long as we only play defense, we'll never score. As long as we only talk about the restrictions the other side is proposing, we will never make any progress in getting any of our rights back - in fact, we are guaranteed that our rights will continue to slowly erode away. We need to show up and fight this time but the next fight needs to be on our terms. We need to decide what the next fight will be about and make them try to block us.

     

    To do this, we need to follow their example and unify behind a small number of issues. They choose assault weapon bans, magazine limits, and background checks. They have been able to stay on task and not get lost going in different directions. I'm not going to suggest what our short list would be but if we all unified behind one issue - and we all hammered our elected officials with one consistent demand, I think we would have a shot at something getting done.

     

    Our first win will need to be small. Always start with small wins because an early loss is a morale killer. An early win energizes and motivates and gets momentum going.

     

    I'd personally like to see CCW in NJ but I realize that's not going to be an easy win so that has to be on the back burner. So, what should be our first win?

    I looked over all of the bills. Here's my brief synopsis of each:

     

    A1613 establish Educational Security Task Force to standardize school safety programs

    A3510 require firearms safety training for fid and p2p

    A3583 establishes School Security Task Force

    A3645 Ammunition sales must be face to face

    A3646 Ammunition sales by dealers only. Photo id required for all ammo sales, even shotgun and rifle

    A3666 Ammunition sale-must be face to face

    A3685 PANYNJ-cert. cargo, impose fac. charge - not firearm related

    A3687 No FID to anyone on terrorist watch list

    A3690 establish committee to study violence and make recommendations to senate

    A3717 State must report all people who were institutionalized to NICS

    A3750 Handgun ammo sales will be reported to state electronically at time of sale and data will be available to all law enforcement in real time.

    A3772 Photo FID card that requires renewal every 5 years

    A3796 Creates 90 day amnesty period to turn in, sell, or render inoperable any firearms that are already illegal.

    S657 Requires firearm training to get an FID

    S2430 Establishes security task force to study and make recommendations

    S2476 Ammunition sales must be face to face

    S2485 No FID to anyone on terrorist watch list

    S2492 State must report all people who were institutionalized to NICS

    Unless the LEO and FBI agent are your closest friends, pick other references. Your references don't need to be in the club, they just need to be smart enough to answer the questions they are asked and reliable enough to get it done.

     

    No body was ever denied because their references were teachers, garbage collectors, or accountants.
