  3. Filmed at our Armistice day Shoot at Cherry Ridge in 2015. This was the main battle rifle of the Harlem Hellfighters. Its development and flaws will be covered at the presentation on Feb 18th. https://youtu.be/VqZe8KLoLN8
  4. The Shoot Director has now stated that "Due to interest shown I will make sure that the Waterloo event is held at 12:30 with the range cleared of all other events. We will fire at 25 yards at police silhouette targets. To add flavor to the event I have opened it up to smoothbore muskets other than just the Brown Bess (Charleyvilles as an example). 6. “The sun never sets on the British Empire” & (Every subject) “may retain weapons necessary for the defense of home and person” Once indisputable truths, the sun has set on both these concepts in Great Britain. As a result of current British Law, many of the firearms once held in British collections have found new homes in “The Land of the Free.” Americans now own them. In Memory of British rights won and lost and as a tribute to Our Second Amendment, The Shongum Sportsmen's Association Invites the new owners of these weapons to compete in a marksmanship contest using THE FIRARMS OF THE WARS OF THE BRITISH EMPIRE Saturday, April 30 , 2016 (One Hundredth Anniversary of the end of the Easter Rising) Shongum Sportsmen’s Association Chapel Hill Range Janes Chapel Road, Mansfield, NJ From Center of Hackettstown, take ROUTE 46 WEST. 7. Here is the Shoot Report, a fun time was had by all: http://www.njacc.info/2016/AllShootReports/2016-WinterShoot-report-vf.html
  8. It is indeed a lot of fun and great way to spend a Saturday. I think the weather forecast is chance of showers on Saturday morning, but looking a lot warmer than last year. Plus benches at Cherry Ridge are covered so a little rain is not a problem.
  9. Three days until the Match. Update from the Shoot Director, Stan Gurski: "Contrary to a published report there is no "rain date" for this event. There is a "snow date" if the range officials decide that there is not sufficient viability for a safe shoot or the roads and parking lot have not been plowed. Cold weather is not an excuse. This is a Winter Shoot. We will have hot venison stew in the parking lot. The ratio of venison to beef is determined by the hunting prowess of the members of the Directors Board. We will have coffee, tea, hot chocolate and hot cider. Lunch will be served in the clubhouse which is heated and has indoor bathrooms. If you are a Cherry Ridge member -please bring your target frame as we only have 20 "loaners'. Prior to the ammo shortage we used to get over 40 participants and hope to do the same this year. If you are using black powder please try to get a bench on the left side of the range. The smoking section. This is a great opportunity to cure cabin fever and the post Christmas blahs. A chance to network with fellow enthusiasts in structured safe fun..."
  10. ANOTHER UPDATE FROM THE SHOOT CHAIRMAN ON DEC. 31: I have received a request from the owner of this rare rifle to compete in the Scandinavian Bolt event. If he wins I will have a special trophy made for him and give out the regular trophy to whoever has the highest score with a "bolt' gun. If you have a rare item that you would like to use and it doesn't fit a 'Niche' in the categories I have set up feel free to contact me for special arrangements. We design these shoots for safe fun and can handle up to almost 50 competitors.Besides it makes for a gun show on the line http://www.forgottenweapons.com/rifles/ljungman/ Stanley Gurski [email protected]
  11. Lewis at Armament Gunsmithing Company, Inc. just completed a repair for me and his work is excellent. His address is 525 Route 22, Hillside, NJ 07205 and his telephone is 908-686-0960. Also I agree that he is a gentleman...
  12. UPDATE FROM THE SHOOT CHAIRMAN, STAN GURSKI: As you get your calendars for 2016 be sure to pencil in the Winter Shoot on Jan 16th. New Jersey Arms Collectors Premier Vintage Rifle Event will again be held at the Cherry Ridge Range. Hot drinks and stew served in the parking lot. Overhead cover. The 100 yard range has been upgraded recently. I am allowing use of the Finnish 28/30 rifle without scope in the sniper event http://www.mosinnagant.net/finland/MosinNagant-M2830rifle-introduction.asp as the world record for winter sniping is held by Simo Hayha who used one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simo_H%C3%A4yh%C3%A4 Allentown and other gun shows exist before the event in case you want to get one. He used to put snow in his mouth so no vapor trail would give his position away. This is not a requirement for this event.

  22. From Stan: Schedule and weather conditions for tomorrow's event Predicted temperature of in the 90's might not apply to range as we are in the higher elevations. We also have overhead cover and iced water and tea will be on the line. Registration and zeroing is 9-10. From 10-12 we will have the battle rifle events 1-8 and 13. Noon to 1 will be the more active events 9-12 and #16. Lunch 1-2. Handgun events after long gun trophy distribution (approx 2:15).
  23. Latest update and reminder from Stan: "Greetings. Great opportunity to join us on Saturday for the annual VJ Day event. Low level friendly competition with the curios and relics of the Pacific campaign. Also a great opportunity to have any items you have inherited to be identified and assessed. For you younger shooters we have some action events. For those of us who carry a Medicare card next to the Firearms card we still allow shooting from the bench. The ammo shortage is over for center fire cartridges. For those who need exotic ammo be sure to call Jones Ammo at 973-625-2622 between 8-10 PM ASAP. Will can come up with anything the Japanese military used if given enough time. Save your brass as he reloads it. If there is sufficient demand we hope to have him deliver it to the range. This is a fun event and almost a gun show on the firing line. If you want Camp Perry level competition go somewhere else."
