  1. Would anyone be interested in a mid week (6-9pm) rimfire only Tactical drill class/session? this would be twice a month. no membership fees. just pre register a week before the class.

The goal would be to provide shooters, with a quality "basics" drill class that would allow each shooter to learn and practice various shooting drills to help hone their skills. offering this class in a RIMFIRE only format would allow for more trigger time and less cost. the shooters would then take the drills they've learned and can practice them with Centerfire rifles on their own.

the class/session would involve a 15-30 min classroom session for safety and overview and 2.5 +/- Hours of trigger time at an indoor range.

Drills would be a combination of Standing, sitting, kneeling, move and shoot, tactical loading and so on.

Looking at a $60 per session cost with a $10 FORUM ONLY discount ($50 for forum members who pre register)

anyway, is this something that the membership here would be interested in?

  2. Woke up this morning to a barrage of facebook posts about snow days and Delayed openings.. only to look out my window and see nothing. just some rain.

Now it's about 12:15pm and there seems to be a steady flow of medium sized flakes falling and starting to accumulate on the lawn. roads and sidewalks are clear. (Egg Harbor twp area)

Any mentionable totals around the state?

  3. Haven't picked my next dive vacation yet as I'm waiting for the travel agent to get back to. So please out me down for a spot.

As there will be a carbine class in the spring should I hold off in bringing my AR till then and get a shotty for this (along with my pistol)?

I will put you on the list. You can bring both rifles with you and decide what one to use when you are there. The instructor covers the use of both Rifle and Shotgun usage.

    Questions:

    1. The thread title lists January 25, the 1st post info lists January 15th. I'm guessing the 15th is correct since it is a weekend?
    2. 80-100 rounds of centerfire - since this is an indoor course, is that pistol or rifle centerfire?
    3. Shotgun ammo in addition too or in place of?
    4. For the rifle, if you have either a centerfire or rimfire AR is there a preference for this particular course?
    5. And since this is a basic - beginners course, of which I'll say I qualify for that, should we bring all three, rifle, pistol and shotgun?
    6. Is this the range that requires frangible ammo?

I'll get you added to the list. and here are the answers for your questions (in order)

    1. Corrected the original post. The correct date is the 25th.
    2. you should bring 80-100 rounds of ammo for the rifle you will be using. If you will be using a shotgun then bring shot gun ammo. The Indoor range allows for AR's and Long guns on the indoor range.
    3. Bring the ammo applicable to the rifle you will be using. If you wish to participate in the Rifle to pistol transition drills bring your pistol and at least 40 rounds of ammo. Note about rifle ammo. We shot about 150 rounds +/- in the November class
    4. CENTERFIRE Rifles and Pistols and SHOTGUN's Only.  no rimfire for this class. This class is based on Defensive tactics. The instructor wants you to be comfortable using the weapon you would use to protect yourself. a 22lr is not considered to be an adequate caliber for defense.
    5. you can bring all 3 weapons and ammo for each. the instructor will go over various topics and tactics. You may find that an AR may be best for the class but when you get there decide that you want to run a Shotgun in stead.  Myself, i used my AR and Beretta pistol for the November class.
    6. I believe so but i will double check and get back to you tomorrow

if you have any more questions please post up!!

I will add you to the list!

Does this class require a lot of movement? I just had ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair on Friday and I don't know if I will be physically ready for this yet but I figured I'd ask.

The shooting portion of the class does have some movement but not like you're diving in to cover or Supermaning over a table or anything like that. Simple movements. If you can not bend or kneel by then you can improvise the drills standing. But at least you will learn the drill and technique so you can practice it when you are ready.

Here is one of the drills we did. Please don't mind the failure near the last cover point (55sec). That was me not slapping the mag all the way in so the rounds didnt seat property.

  4. I use to have the magpul moe grips on one of my rifles but tried the umbrella corp grips and instantly fell in love with the feel. They are very comfortable with my fixed stock position (about the second position on a standard stock.)

I let a few people try it out at the last carbine class I went to and everyone liked the way it felt. I noticed less wrist fatigue and a more natural "elbows down/in" posture.

Since then I've switched all of my rifles to he umbrella grips.

They come with no stippling but do not lend themselves to slipping even with wet hands. This is a good or bad thing depending on who you are. If you have the time and want to stipple it the process is pretty easy to do and you can do a little custom work to it.

Here is a pic of the grip on my latest builds

  5. Ok here is an update. it looks as if we will be having our first of the series of 3 Tactical carbine/Rifle series events in March of this year at Shooters. There will be an expanded class size for up to 20 students (first come first served). I will have the exact date(s) shortly.

The first class will be (obviously) Carbine 1. this will be the same or similar to the Tactical Rifle Class i am hosting in January. If you wish to take Carbine 2 and 3 you will need to take all of the classes prior. Classes are anticipated to be every other month.

    Course descriptions

Course descriptions are in final review and we are waiting on confirmation of the dates we requested.  As soon as i get the approval from the range i will post dates and we will start registration.

I can tell you this. Each class will have a class room session.

    • Carbine 1 will have the the longest (covering various topics) then a shooting portion. I would say a 30% classroom 70% range time
    • Carbine 2 and 3 will have a shorter session.  Say 15% class room (recapping what you learned in the previous classes) and 85% shooting time.

simply put With each class the classroom time shrinks and the shooting time increases.

Class times are roughly 7+/- Hours.

    DISCOUNTS FOR FORUM MEMBERS:

Price wise the classes will be $160 each. There is no discount on the first class.  I have set it up so that IF you are a forum member here and have posted in the registration thread (when i post it) and If you have participated in Tactical Rifle/Carbine 1 you will get a $20 off coupon towards the next class. If you take Carbine 2 you will get the same coupon for carbine 3. So Carbine 1 will cost you $160, Carbine 2 would cost you $140 and Carbine 3 would cost you $140. This discount is only being offered to forum members here. So if someone registers at shooters and is not a member here, they will not get the discount coupons. More info will follow.

We are also working on putting together a Tactical pistol 1 and 2 as well.

Anyway i wanted to post an update for everyone.

  6. Hey Everyone, I have scheduled a second Class in January at an INDOOR range for those who missed the class i put together in November. Please see below for info.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

"Tactical Rifle/Shotgun Course" at Shooters in Little Egg Harbor, NJ. This class will have a 8-10 person limit. This provides for a intimate learning experience and better student instructor rapport.

Everyone who attended agreed that he is a great instructor with the students interests and safety in mind. He is very easy to learn from and interact with. He is a NRA instructor for various disciplines, more information on Kharis can be found here: Credentials

The course will cover a number of things from various rifles for home defense as well as various shooting drills. I have asked that a Primary to secondary transition technique be added to the training list as well (for those of us who have pistols as well).

  10. Just a bout a week out from the course. If anyone has any questions Please post up!

I'm thinking that everyone get there a little early to introduce themselves to other forum members? thoughts comments.

this is also a good time to make sure your gear is good. and your ammo is prepped.

I will make arrangements for us to use one range to check zero of our rifles prior to the Shooting portion of our class.

  11. Thanks for all the great input! as of now it looks like we'll do a 2 day park hopper in Disney and a 1 day universal/islands of adventure and 2 days to kick back in Orlando. We'll be doing 4 days at the lake with her parents and 1/2 a day at spikes..... ;)

i belong to the Hilton vacation club so we'll have a 2 bedroom suite with full kitchen. I figured we would do breakfast and dinner at the hotel and a quick lunch at the park. the baby will most likely just do his jars of baby food and formula. the Inlaws are going to be with us for a few days so my wife and i may have them watch the boy while we go out for the night.

sounds like my AAA discounts will be the best we can get so far.

  12. The free float attaches directly to the receiver. And the drop in attaches to the delta ring and the front end is supported by the front ring (behind the FSB.

For an example the upper in my sig is a free float hand guard (quad rail). No front ring to clip in to. And attaches right to the receiver

Personally I like the free float look better than the drop in style.
