Read your question and tell me the answer.

I liked my old Honda 500, but got a Harley when the Honda was stolen.

I liked my Nissan, but got a Lexus to replace it.

There were ads with our electric bill and one was for a Dillon 1050 for about $650 that my wife showed me. Checked it out and it came with three tool heads and about five caliber conversion kits. My wife "suggested" that I should now give my Hornady to my son (otherwise, believe me, I would STILL have it) as he had just asked for recommendations on what to buy as he wanted to get into reloading, so I set him up.

Then, I found another and then a third one on eBay at a good price (that one came completely disassembled and was so much FUN to put together).

As I have said before, if someone stole all three 1050s, I would have a new L-N-L on the bench real fast, but I would look for good deals on 1050s (but nothing BLUE).

I'm sorry I don't follow your logic.  You're admitting the Dillon is an upgrade over the LnL, yet you'd get a LnL again?  It seems circular to me.

Yet, I have used Hornady progressives almost since day one (when Dillon only had a 4-station press) and have NEVER had to tweak it. Before Hornady, is was the Star progressive (more than I needed or could afford) or the Dillon 4-station that just did not meet my desires for a progressive press.

I have had to help tweak a friend's two 650s and I have had to tweak my 1050s. All I ever did to my Hornady's was to replace a pawl I broke and Hornady replaced free--and that was drop in and lock.

There is no color to worship and no color is problem free.

I'm just curious if you liked the Hornay press, why get a 1050?

  3. Before you go down the red rabbit hole, compare against Dillon's offerings.

I've had presses from most of the major manufacturers (Lee, Hornady, Dillon, RBCS).  I would never buy another press that's not blue again.

I used to fiddle with my LnL every single reloading session trying to get it work correctly, with the 650, I just slap the hoolhead in and I'm ready to load.

I know the LnL seems cheap compared to the 650, but if you add the casefeeder which comes standard on the 650, it's fairly close.  If the price of the 650 is too high, take a look at the 550 or the SBD - both are great presses.

Plus the Dillons hold resale WAY BETTER than the Hornady presses.  You can find plenty used for 80% of new.  I had to practically give my Hornady LnL away (I think I sold it for $350 w/ the case feeder).

Just do the research before settling on a Hornady.

I'm a cheap bastard, and buy the $100 two-burner grill from home depot every 2-3 years.  Big enough to handle most "parties" we have, small enough that it doesn't consume my deck.  I don't even bother covering it.

Penny wise, pound foolish.  A $600 Weber will outlast the 3 grills you buy every 2-3 years.

  5. Shongum allows steel and I make/sell targets right here in NJ
www.pewpewplates.com use coupon code PICKUP to zero out shipping and arrange pickup.
I can also deliver to the upcoming ontelaunee 3 gun match if you do that

Shongum has over a year waiting list as of right now....

    When's the next ontelaunee 3gun?

  6. I used to be a contractor and did some roof work when we needed to fill schedule. There are a number of things that affect a price and make it go higher:
    1. Contractor's cost to do business...most legit contractors have higher overhead, have all the insurance, etc.  The one or two guys who are cheap may not be covered.
    2. How busy is the Contractor?  If they're booked up for the next two years, you'll get a higher price from them.
    3. Does the contractor think you'll be a pain in the ass?  If you tick the guy off your price will be higher.
    4. Miscellaneous:  Do you have a Benz or Viper in the driveway? The price just went up. Are you a Dr. or Lawyer? The price just went up.
If the Contractor needs to fill a hole in his schedule, the price may go lower.  I did a lot of bidding, but I also did a lot of work for people who called me and said, "How can we get this done" because they knew my reputation. If you trust someone  it 's worth paying a little more.
If you don't...get three or 4 estimates and references and you'll be fine.

Numbers 3/4, although true, piss me off. Just because someone makes money doesn't mean they want to part with more of it than someone else.

Most home renovation work is a commodity product and going with the low cost provider isn't the end of the world.

Try the PPQ 5" M2 way better than the 4".  Can't go wrong with either the SP-01 or the 5" M2.

This is also on my shortlist.  Howard - what did you do to it for production?  Any mods?

As an aside, even without knowing RTSP's price on it, I can confidently say that you can find it much cheaper online.  There's also an active rebate on Walther guns right now, so this can be had pretty cheaply.

Yes, have the bolt worked on.. I have used CPC. Great work and turn around time.

They will true up the bolt face, pin the firing pin (stops flyers) and radius bottom and back of bolt.

Polish inside of receiver, bolt and bolt handle that rides in the bolt.  Add a bolt buffer.  Do this and the grouping will improve.

I've used him as well.  Did great work and turn around time was fantastic.

  9. If all you care about is turning off the light, you can use a spark plug non fouler as mentioned above or they sell a specialized plug that backs out the o2 sensor enough so it doesn't trip the code.

6 years seems like an awfully short lifespan for a cat though. Unless you were running incredibly rich the whole time, I'm not convinced your cat is actually dead.

Since I have a acre of woods and been slowly clearing some of it, this gets me nervous. What's a good spray I should use to make these suckers stay away from me?

Anything that contains permetherin, spray on your clothes and shoes. Can buy some in bulk and make your own spray.

Thoughts on a good passive balance for 15 years out?

What's your risk profile? Can you tolerate volatility in your portfolio?  Do you have any other sources of income in retirement besides this money?

Asking rhetorically.  If you can tolerate risk and have a back up plan, be more aggressive.  If not, most FA's would probably suggest a 70/30 approach and start scaling that back to be more fixed income vs equity.

  12. What they really want to say is "don't use out-of-spec ammo" but that's not realistic (can gauge cartridges if you really wanted to but double charges are invisible once completed*).

"Don't use reloads" is as close as they can get. But we all know in-spec reloads are just as safe as anything else.

EDIT: *yes, some over/under charges might be spotted by weighing but it's probably in the noise of other component variations unless it's a gross error

Variation from case weight and bullet weight would make that impossible to tell from weight of finished cartridge.

I would think a system like a hornady powder cop wired to some electronic alert would alleviate those issues.
