  1. It's a good sign if the target disappeared.  I would install motion external cameras or one running 24x7 to a hard drive to record everything.  Cameras let your neighbors know you are watching them when you're not home.

When dealing with neighbors, I find that they are mostly thinking about their own interests, even when they are knowingly or unknowingly violating your rights.

  2. Reading this thread depresses me in a way because it shows me how far we've regressed thanks to attitudes and paranoia here in New Jersey. I remember back in the late seventies my brother and I used to shoot on a friend's property in Sussex County. The land butted up to Stokes State Forest, and was less than a mile from the State Police barracks on Rt. 206. We probably used the property until I got married in 1982. Only once did a state park employee walk into the property and ask us what we were doing and ask if we had permission. We had nothing in writing to prove we could, other than our word. No one else ever bothered us. When we were done, we'd stop at the Flatbrook Tap House for a steak sandwich or calzone and a beer or two before the drive home. We were both members of Cherry Ridge at the time but this place was more convenient for us when we went scouting for deer in the mountains or trout fishing. During the spring and summer months we would combine an afternoon of target shooting and then flyfish the night hatch on the Big Flatbrook, then we'd drive home after dark. I guess we may have left our guns locked in the truck. Oh my. The horror!

Yeah, I realize this was more than thirty-five years ago, and times were different back then, but I do miss those days. Only I didn't realize what a lawbreaker I was back then. Older and wiser today, I would never attempt this now. Remembering what that was like only spurs me on to leave this place called New Jersey. The wait now is the only thing killing me.

yeah I've seen teens on youtube shooting from the back of their decks & patios in some hick state.   good luck letting your kids play in the backyard.  good luck letting your pets roam free.  good luck with your well water.  LEAD us know...

  3. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm still waiting so in still looking into everything. I was looking at sigs online, but it was confusing with all the models and they may be a little out of the pride range right now.

Ammo probably costs more than your pistol in the long run, short run....

Check out the Sig website.  Tons of choices.  If you like DA/SA like 92FS, you'll like Sigs.  Except there's no safeties but you do get a decocker on many

  4.

Almost nowhere in the nation does anybody need any sort of ID to handle a gun, and certainly no sort of permit to buy one. So, when I hear this kind of talk, I know that people that are paranoid about guns to the point of being anti to the rest of us don't stay put, they move and they breed.

"When I hear this kind of talk" is very dangerous indeed.  You can debate & discuss differences but in the end, it's up to the person to decide on one's own.  We need to respect people even when they have opinions you do not agree on.  Tolerance is something we all must have.

  5. One of the posters hit the nail on the head and a poll I recently did on another gun forum confirms it. The majority of gun owners do not still own their first gun. In fact, the last three people I taught to shoot last year got rid of their first gun within a few months after agonizing for months over which first gun to get. There is a big difference in shooting a gun for a short time at a range and shooting it long term. As one poster mentioned, you can easily spend more on renting guns and buying ammo than you will spend on a gun.

old dog is right.  don't get stuck with a pistol you don't like.

  6. 0. I've never fired a firearm before, but would love to try. Especially a handgun.
    1. Where can I rent a USP in DA/SA and LEM?

try a SIG or Beretta for DA/SA
    2. Any other guns I should (or shouldn't) rent? Glock and XD are on the list. Try multiple calibers?

9mm vs 45acp vs .40 feels all the same to me.  XDm
    3. Like the USP for the trigger options. Upper end of budget.

most important to me is the trigger.  1911 triggers are nicer.
    4. Should I rent a .22 first, or don't bother?

absolutely!  ammo is expensive. you'll go more to the range when ammo is cheap.
    5. Buy AR/hicaps now, or buy what I really want?

prices have come back down to earth. take your time choosing.
    6. Any other suggestions?

get a real metal pistol & forget the plastic
