  1. This experiment has reached it's conclusion.

I am sorry sir but we require it according to our company policy. If you are not willing to send your FID card, then we will gladly refund the .22LR ammunition and ship the rest of your order. Please let me know how you would like to proceed with your order.

    Thank you,

So there you have it.  It is PSA's company policy to categorize rifle ammo as handgun ammo.  Well, I canceled the .22LR from my order and instructed them to send the rest of the order.

    Kayleigh,

Please remove the .22LR from my order and process the remaining items without delay.  I would hope that PSA will expedite this order as I was only made aware of the problem about shipping .22LR as a result of my initiating an inquiry.  While I do not agree with PSA's policy regarding .22LR, I have to respect it.  But it would have been appropriate and professional for PSA to have informed me at the time the order was placed that an additional condition to provide my FID was required when ordering .22LR.

Thank you for attending to this matter.

Hopefully there won't be any more nonsense with the order.  Honestly, I'm more pissed that they did not make it clear from the get go that they required my FID for .22LR, than the stupid company policy itself.  I only found out that they would not ship my order after I contacted THEM nearly two weeks had passed from the date the order was placed.

I have found the names of the three owners and am in the process of writing a letter to them.  All in all I like PSA, even if they are slow and obtuse.  Maybe making an appeal to the top brass will effect a positive change in their attitude in doing business with NJ.

  2. PSA is not Governor Christie. They are not even an NJ business. They are not oppressing you. They are free to not to want to deal with jersey nonsense and you are free not to give them your money.

That being said, I think you did the right thing sending them information to consider. That makes sense. Just don't hold your breath ;)

Not holding my breath.  I canceled the order this morning.

  3. We get what you are saying. But we live in NJ and retailers would rather cover their asses rather than make you feel warm and fuzzy inside.

I've been out of the shooting sports loop for about 25 years.  I guess since then NJ sportsmen have been taking it up the ass so long that they have learned to like it.

  4. Ok so it is the same as 9mm you are buying for a carbine or 45 for a Kriss Vector both are rifles but you are going to have to show your FID. yes it sucks but until you move out of state or the laws change it is what it is

    9mm, 38sp .357etc, were designed specifically for handguns.  .22Long Rifle.....take a guess.

  5. Finally PSA has given me a specific reason.  It's the .22LR.

Unfortunately sir, because the .22LR can fit into certain handguns we require a copy of your FID to be on file.

Here is my reply.  We'll see how it works out.

    Kayleigh,

Thank you again for your quick response.  .22LR does not fall under NJ state regulations as handgun ammo.  Please refer to the following NJ statute.

2C:58-3.3. "Handgun ammunition" defined; sale, purchase, etc., regulated; violation, fourth degree crime.

         1. a. As used in this act, "handgun ammunition" means ammunition specifically designed to be used only in a handgun. "Handgun ammunition" shall not include blank ammunition, air gun pellets, flare gun ammunition, nail gun ammunition, paint ball ammunition, or any non-fixed ammunition.

As you can see the statute only regulates ammo specifically designed for handguns and specifically excludes calibers that can be used in both rifle and pistol.  For example.  .223 can be used in an AR pistol platform, .308 can be used in handguns such as a Thompson Center Arms and a variety of other rifle caliber cartridges can be used in  many pistol type firearms.

I can appreciate PSA's caution (especially when doing business with NJ) but rest assured, .22 Long Rifle is not designed specifically as handgun ammo and can be shipped to NJ.  I think Long Rifle pretty much indicates the specific design and purpose of this ammo by name.  Honestly, I have no problem with providing a copy of my FID when it is required.  If I was ordering 9mm handgun ammo I would have made all of the necessary arrangements with PSA without hesitation.   But, as a matter of principle, I am not eager to send a copy of my FID to anyone unless it is absolutely required by NJ state law.

I sincerely hope that PSA will review this policy regarding .22LR ammo.  It is doubtful that we will be able to reach agreement on this matter though.  If PSA will not ship the .22LR to me without a copy of my FID we will have to do one of two things.  1) Remove the .22LR from my order and process the remaining items.  2) Cancel the entire order.  I suppose there is a third option.  PSA can recognize that legally there is no requirement to provide a FID for .22LR and ship the entire order.

Given the three options above, please advise me as to how PSA would like to proceed in resolving this order.

    Thank you.

  6. I believe that handgun ammunition sales are logged into a book along with your name and FID information.  And since .22 LR can be used in a handgun, you need to pony up your FID at point of sale.  If the store is not doing that, i would bet they could get into lots of trouble.

"specifically designed to be used only in a handgun."

.223 can be used in a pistol (AR pistol)

20GA can be used in a handgun  Pedersoli Howdah Hunter 20-Ga. Pistol

.308, .270, 7mmx08 and many others  can be used in Thompson Center

7.62x39 has been used in a variety of semi auto hand guns.

I can buy any of the above center fire rifle calibers all day long without a hassle (ie having to flash my FID or have my purchase logged) and they are clearly capable of being used in handguns.None of the above referenced calibers were specifically designed for use in a handgun.

38sp, 357Mag, 9mm, 45ACP, all specifically designed to be used in a handgun, and I have no problem forking over my FID for these calibers. It is the law and I follow the law.  Even if it is stupid.

    .22 Long RIFLE........  DUUUUUUH.

I'm not shy, I don;t think my thumb print is ugly and hate to show it to people, there is no tin foil in my hats.  It all boils down to a matter of principle.  Sure I could just fork over my FID and this would all go away.  But I don't like being bullied, I do not like doing unnecessary things.  Unless someone here can convince me that NJ State law REQUIRES .22LR be logged as handgun ammo, I will argue this ad nauseum.

  7. Just curious, is there a reason you are so against showing the fid for .22 ammo? If its a philosophical thing I guess I get it but in practice I have to show it to even look at a gun so I dont see the big deal here.

It is a matter of principle.  Do you have to show the gas station attendant your drivers license before they pump gas?  If it's not required by law then it is an unnecessary intrusion.

As a practical matter .22LR by design and by name is not specifically designed for use in handguns.  Otherwise it would be called .22LP for long pistol instead of rifle.

What I also find interesting is that air gun pellets in any caliber is specifically designated as NOT handgun ammo.  So .177 and .22 caliber air gun ammo, which can be used in highly regulated air pistols, is NOT handgun ammo.  Ergo, .22LR is not handgun ammo.

  9. UPDATE

Things are getting interesting with my inquiry about my recent order with PSA.  Long story short.  They refuse to ship my order until I send them a copy of my FID.  Since I have not ordered any pistol caliber ammo, there is no need for me to send it.  However, I suspect that they want it because I ordered .22LR.  I can only suspect that, because they will not tell me what item in my order has prompted them to ask for my FID after repeated requests for them to do so.

Correct me if I'm wrong but.  LR does stand for long rifle and .22LR can be purchased without having to hand over a FID to comply with handgun ammo purchases.  Has anyone here ever had to hand over a FID in NJ to buy .22LR?

  10. NJ needs more public land to shoot on, not more private ranges.  The WMAs need to unwad their panties.  30 years ago I could go to a number of places to shoot for free.  We need that back because joining the NRA and paying steep initiation fees ain't gona encourage people to get out there.

  11. I know i'm probably beating the crap out of a dead horse but i just realized something. My barrel is 18", not 14.5", so adding the muzzle break is not to conform to nfa, only to NJ laws which stated permanently attached. So technically can't, can i pin the break, with the pin just below the surface and fill in with jb weld? Should be similar to pinning a stock i would think. If i am being stupid just let me know.

I personally would go with a simple thread protector on any 16" or longer threaded barrel.  I believe muzzle devices do have their purpose in life however for pure accuracy and not being an annoyance to your range mates a simple thread protector with a good target crown on your muzzle will give you good accuracy.  I spent a good chunk of change on my 18" match barrel so I'm reluctant to do anything that will change it's properties.  If heating a muzzle to glowing red hot made guns more reliable and accurate then people would be doing it all the time.

Anyway, just drill the TP, mount it, throw a small pin in there and weld that sucker shut.  I also recommend using a little LocTite RED.  This method is 100% compliant and least destructive.

  12. They do have a couple of real winners for RSOs, most are very good and polite but there are a couple that can be very abrasive and act like downright jerks.

It also seems to me that the range has gotten much more crowded over the last 6-12 months.  I remember going on a weekend morning and the rifle range was never or at least rarely ever filled.  This year it is full every time I go.

You can thank BO and every other dem with a hardon for AWBs for the crowded ranges.  I started shooting again just last year because BO helped me see the light.  Black really IS beautiful  ;)  I've never owned anything but wood stocked firearms in my life until last year.  I bet those dem bastards bought stock in Magpul and Colt before they tried to ban the black guns.

  13. Scorpio, you know what's funny? I saw your picture there, I'm actually watching Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex right now. Weird.

Also, for some reason the upload kept failing, so here's the pic

GITS is Tits.  One of my top 5 shows.

  14. If you are not planning on mounting a magnified optic then a fixed front sight is your best bet.  The fewer moving parts the better.  You can still use a magnified optic with a fixed front sight, you may not even notice it.  But still, there's just something funky about it.  Red dot or reflex with a fixed front sight is a winning combination for short to intermediate range targets.

EDIT:  As a matter of personal preference, I like the Troy Battlesight.  It has that classic WW2 Garand look that I love.

  15. I went yesterday. Hopefully for you the girl will be in the tower and not the guy. I can never understand the guy he is not very articulate. and seems to be mean.

Last time I was there the RSO guy you speak of was giving a war vet some shit over not having a chamber flag during a cease fire.  It was the guy's first time there and he had his teen aged grand kids with him.  I gave him a chamber flag and peace was restored.  But what a dick move by the RSO.

  16. What does the heat do to the color of the brake? I can't imagine it come out unscathed

I'd be more concerned with what the heat would do to a barrel, especially a high dollar match grade barrel.  That much heat will have to change the metal one way or another.  Even if it doesn't screw up the barrel during installation, what about removing the device?  The amount of heat required to melt the solder would soften the barrel metal and in the small window you have to remove the device the barrel would become more like twisted wrought iron instead of a precision machined gun barrel.

  17. In Everetts instructions, he gave me the e-mail for the shipping dep't.  I'll send a separate e-mail to them asking the simple question.

    Message sent.....

    Hi,
    Re. Order #210xxxxxxx
I was instructed by Everett to send you a copy of my NJ FID.
Before I send it please tell me exactly why you need my FID to ship out this order.
In accordance with NJ regulations, there is nothing in my order that would require it.

    Thank you.

    xxxxxxx  xxxxxxx

This is getting interesting.  Keep in mind, I was just messing with them to begin with to see how they would handle a delay inquiry.  Now that they are asking for my FID, it's on!

  18. Forget the chicks name that asked me for the ffl but the other cs by name was Everette... Neither a bright light.

Sent from my iPad 2 using T2 Pro

The second response I rec'd was from Everett.  My original post about the reply was deleted because (just guessing here)  html coded contact info was in it so I excluded all contact details.  I have since found the names of two top dogs at PSA and intend to write them a strong letter with some advice on customer retention.  The Better Business Bureau has PSA rated on a scale from A+ to F as a C.  How can a company with such a bad rep be doing so well?

I kinda screwed up in my response though.  What I should have asked is exactly why they needed my FID instead of leading the CS rep.
