  1. I figured out the problem mounting my barrel.  As it turns out, I'm a moron.  Okay, maybe moron is too strong a word but still feeling a little stupid.  The problem is the barrel nut, when tight, goes too far for the gas tube to fit and the amount of torque to get to the next alignment would exceed specs.  I think the technical term for barrel nut alignment is timing.

The solution is barrel shims.  Why does everyone know about these fancy pants washers except me?  Anyway, I've got some on the way.

  2. Thanks for the input. To make sure I understand, this isn't a great price and I should wait? Maybe I'll just order the stripper lower without the parts kit. That's going for $60 right now.

If you are willing to pay $60 for one lower, plus shipping, plus the FFL fee then you might be better off buying local.  If you are going to buy three or four lowers and your FFL charges a single transfer fee for the lot, then that's a better deal.  If you really want to save some money on PSA lowers, wait until they have a sale on blems.  You can get them for $40 each.

  3. I bought a couple of stripped lowers from Bullseye to avoid the shipping and FFL fees, still have to do the NICS though.  Just about everything else I got from PSA, Brownell's and Joe Bob Outfitters.  It took seven months of watching and waiting for seasonal and holiday sales.  In the end I saved somewhere between $300 and $500.  PSA's regular prices are mostly reasonable, sale prices are good, sometimes they have a few items on sale with crazy good prices.

  4. we an take a look. if its just to look at the barrel to make sure you installed it right i wont charge you :)

I'm pretty sure it's not on right.  Everything lines up alright but it's not very tight.  I'm too chicken to put the torque needed to firm it up.  Plus, I'd want the head space checked too.

  5. I just completed my first AR build last week and would like to have a gunsmith check my work.  I live near Eatontown, sadly all of the nearby shops I used to go to are long gone.  To be honest, I don't think I did a great job attaching the barrel and would like to have it installed by a pro.

  6. If you couldnt find parts at Carisle..... then man, you must be looking for some rare stuff. That place is usually good for parts.....  especially compared to the thing they try and call a swap meet @ Englishtown ......

^^ +1  You could literally get all the parts there to build a car from the ground up.

I used to work for a video production company and went out there 3-4 times a year to cover various things.  All of the events were a ton of fun, but I especially liked the motorcycle events.  Having a media pass gave me access to everything.  I kinda got into trouble there one year at the Corvettes event.  I talked some spectators into "encouraging" Corvette owners to burn rubber during the parade.  I got some great footage before the police showed up.

I see that they are now having an outdoors man/gun show in September, cool.

  7. I use 1x1 hardwood stakes from home depot and staple a sheet of dollar store foamcore to it.  To that I can staple four home printed 8.5x11 targets.  The ground at R14 is sandy and soft, the stakes are easily driven into the ground with a large hammer or a small sledge.  I haven't done bottle and cans yet but I'm planning on using two stakes about 5 or 6 feet apart and stapling a string with the targets already tied to the string.  Quick, cheap and easy.

  8. The ideal device is a thread protector.  All the NJ legal tacticool gadgets are generally a waste of money.  If you are shooting a 50 cal I'd say a break/comp would be useful, but the low recoil of .223/5.56 is so little even a 12 year old can manage it.  I'm sure I'll receive a lot of flack from the tacticool crowd.  If you must attach a device, I'd recommend a Levang (or similar) linear compensator.  You get the tacticool look while not pissing off your range mates.

  9. anyone get a shipping conformation that ordered during this deal? I ordered the 22nd and only got the order conformation. they charged my account but i still have no shipping info. i contacted them with my order # and no response..

Edwill, if this is your first time ordering from them, my advice is to be very patient. They do charge your card right away and may take some time before you get a tracking number. They are slow in shipping out the merchandise. While this can be frustrating, on a positive note in my experience they do have in stock what they say they do and it all does arrive after several weeks. Also, last year I ordered 22lr from them and they imposed no ordering limits.

    Hope this helped.

PSA is slow to deliver.  Two to three weeks is typical.  Reminds me of the old days when there was only mail order and UPS to deliver packages.

  10. Thought they were made in turkey

Yeah, shotguns made in Turkey.  Apparently I was confused because of something I read last year about ATI smuggling Chinese components into the US.

  11. The guy was fully aware he was carrying.  In one report he says he told the cops he was carrying and offered to help.  Not one of the cops on scene can recall him ever making that statement.  In another televised interview he was asked directly by the reporter why he did not tell the cops he was carrying after the cops asked him outright if he had a gun.  He said he didn't lie because the cops didn't ask specifically if he was carrying a gun with a permit, they only asked if he had a gun. He also said he was not aware that it was illegal for him to be carrying on school grounds, which is unbelievable for someone who was supposedly instrumental in getting the SAFE act passed.

  12. There is no single media outlet that can be depended on to report unbiased news.  What I've found works best for me is to follow a story instead of a media outlet.  When there is a story that is important to me, I will spend hours researching it over a period of days or sometimes weeks.  It is not unusual for me to visit 25 to 50 different sources when researching big stories, accessing national, international left leaning and right leaning sites for information.  The bottom line here is; If you want as much of the truth as one can possibly find about a story, you will have to work for it.

  13. .........

As a precaution, make sure your computer antivirus is up to date and do a full scan, and try running a program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to scan for something like a trojan horse or other malware that captured your info.  If anything is found, make sure you also change passwords once you've cleaned up the system.

My thoughts exactly.  When one uses a CC to make online purchases, the transaction typically occurs over a SSL server.  Meaning the information is encoded before it is transmitted to prevent snooping devices from capturing the information.  The only flaw is that the information is not encoded as it is entered on the keyboard.  That's where the trojan horses come into play.  A trojan horse can easily capture the info and forward it elsewhere before anything is encrypted.  While SSL servers do provide a layer of security, they also tend to give some folks a false sense of security.

There is only one computer in my house that I use for CC transactions, my "serious" work computer.  I never visit porn sites, illegal video streaming sites, download flash games or any other nonsense on this particular computer.    Every time such sites are visited, one's chances of having their PC become compromised increase.  Guys need to think of their PC as if were their "willy".  Think twice before you make a connection.  You may walk away with more than you bargained for.
