  1. The guy was fully aware he was carrying.  In one report he says he told the cops he was carrying and offered to help.  Not one of the cops on scene can recall him ever making that statement.  In another televised interview he was asked directly by the reporter why he did not tell the cops he was carrying after the cops asked him outright if he had a gun.  He said he didn't lie because the cops didn't ask specifically if he was carrying a gun with a permit, they only asked if he had a gun. He also said he was not aware that it was illegal for him to be carrying on school grounds, which is unbelievable for someone who was supposedly instrumental in getting the SAFE act passed.

  2. There is no single media outlet that can be depended on to report unbiased news.  What I've found works best for me is to follow a story instead of a media outlet.  When there is a story that is important to me, I will spend hours researching it over a period of days or sometimes weeks.  It is not unusual for me to visit 25 to 50 different sources when researching big stories, accessing national, international left leaning and right leaning sites for information.  The bottom line here is; If you want as much of the truth as one can possibly find about a story, you will have to work for it.

As a precaution, make sure your computer antivirus is up to date and do a full scan, and try running a program like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to scan for something like a trojan horse or other malware that captured your info.  If anything is found, make sure you also change passwords once you've cleaned up the system.

My thoughts exactly.  When one uses a CC to make online purchases, the transaction typically occurs over a SSL server.  Meaning the information is encoded before it is transmitted to prevent snooping devices from capturing the information.  The only flaw is that the information is not encoded as it is entered on the keyboard.  That's where the trojan horses come into play.  A trojan horse can easily capture the info and forward it elsewhere before anything is encrypted.  While SSL servers do provide a layer of security, they also tend to give some folks a false sense of security.

There is only one computer in my house that I use for CC transactions, my "serious" work computer.  I never visit porn sites, illegal video streaming sites, download flash games or any other nonsense on this particular computer.    Every time such sites are visited, one's chances of having their PC become compromised increase.  Guys need to think of their PC as if were their "willy".  Think twice before you make a connection.  You may walk away with more than you bargained for.

  4. I own a 1994 Cadillac Deville Concours 4.6L N* LD8.  This car means very much to me as it was my father's car.   He left it to me just before he passed away seven years ago. It was his pride and joy.  I have tried to keep the car in good condition as best I can, performing some work myself and having the major repairs done by "professional" mechanics.  If I told you how much I've spent on keeping this car on the road, I'd be embarrassed.  Not so much for having put the money in it, but for having put my faith in mechanics who really don't know how to work on this car.

This is my last ditch effort to find a reputable mechanic, currently working or retired, capable of doing the work I need done at a reasonable price.  The following is a list of major work that needs to be done.  There are other minor issues which need to be addressed as well but they can wait.

    * Major tune-up - Starts and idles rough when cold.  Bucks at 45-50 mph then smooths out at 60+.  Taps like an Irish river dancer.  Idle's smooth when warm but sometimes stalls if the A/C is operating.

    * Suspension - shocks (possibly struts) rattles going over rough road, control arm bushings are starting to rot and alignment needs adjustment (pulls to the right).

    * Transmission - At 4 MPH (in forward or reverse) It makes a soft ratcheting sound, this only occurs the first time I put it in gear after start-up.  Other than that no complaints.

    * Exhaust - leaking from behind the cat and mufflers need to be replaced.

    * Cooling - There is a very slow leak.  I have to add about a half gallon every two to three months.  I can smell the coolant from time to time.

I will supply the parts and pay you in cash for the labor.  I live in the Eatontown area.  The work does not need to be done fast or all at once, it needs to be done right.  I'm very handy and am willing to pitch in if you think I will not be in the way.

Just to be clear.  This is not a request for a quote from a shop.  I'm looking for someone with a strong work ethic who is an expert with my particular car, preferably retired, who is looking to make some extra cash on the side.  Someone who's primary interest is more about helping me prevent my father's keepsake from going into the crusher and being shipped off to China as scrap and not so much about buying a 72" big screen ( or two boxes of .22LR :) ).  As I mentioned, this is my last ditch effort.  My wife has had it up to here with me and this car.  If I spend another dime on this car and it's not done right.  She's gonna be pissed.  If you though Dr. Bruce Banner turned into a monster when he gets mad, you should see my old lady.  On second thought, no......  you don't want to see that.

Mods:  If this is the wrong place to post, my apologies.  Please move to appropriate thread.

  5. As much as I love Ruger, start the kids off right and get a classically styled wood stocked rifle.  Scouting is about tradition and there is noting more traditional than wood.

For value and simplicity, I suggest the H&R breech loading Handi-Rifle.  Breech loaders are on the BSA approved list.

The Savage Rascal may also fit the bill.  Inexpensive single shot bolt action.

If you are going to do both rifle and shotgun, consider a Rossi with interchangeable .22LR/20ga barrels.

I went to a military academy for HS and we trained with the Winchester Model 67

I have a RAR in 243 and so far I love it.  I've heard good and not so good reviews on the RA Rimfire though.

You can't really go wrong with the Ruger but you may be able to go more right with something else.

Well, that's my two cents.  Considering you can't even buy one gumball with that these days, take it for what it's worth.

  6. I bought a P-Tac MOE LBK from PSA,   No washer, it does not come with one, none pictured or listed in the item description.  Grip is just fine without it.  They did forget one of the TD springs but somehow managed to throw in an extra trigger pin and mag release spring.  I sent them an e-mail and they sent me two TD springs.

It may take them a while but based on my experience and what I've read from other reviews, PSA always makes it right.

  7. This is the advice I received from a friend who happens to be a cop.  Pull over, roll down the window, pull out your wallet but not your documents and kill the engine.  Keep your hands on the wheel, keep your mouth shut except to answer questions, Do not volunteer information but if asked about firearms directly, DO NOT LIE.  Do not use the words weapon or gun, refer to what you are transporting as firearms only.

  8. One thing to consider is this.  The lighter it is, the more felt recoil she will experience.  For an ultra-light, a pencil barrel is a must, go with a 16" target crowned or a 14.5 14.7 with a muzzle device..  It will heat up like crazy but it will be light.  Carbine or middy gas system with light free floated carbon fiber handguard.  Flattop upper, poly lower.  no buttstock or a simple ultra light stock.  lowpro gas block with picatinny top, magpul plastic BUIS.  It will be light but it will also be squirrely.

That is actually why I don't really worry about the EMP scenario. Lets say you managed to protect your radio or your cell or whatever, but who else did? Did the radio station survive?

It is also worth noting that most generators have semiconductor components (AVR) and will not survive an EMP unless they are protected.

  10. I play a lawyer on TV ..........

you have to walk through the bank lobby to get to the box that you rent.  Does not seem much different than coming home from the range, parking in your neighbor's driveway and walking across his property to get to yours.  ..........

More precisely,  It's like parking in the garage or lot of the apartment complex where one lives and walking through the common space of the property while making way to one's exclusive private space.  I do not play a lawyer but a safe deposit box could be construed as a tiny highly secure apartment for your stuff.

While I would not do this myself, nor recommend it, perhaps using storage of firearms in a self storage complex is a better model to compare the legality on.  In principle, it is essentially the same as storing one's firearms in a bank.

  11. Telecommunications is just one component of today's "smart phone"  Even if comms go down, a smart phone with the right apps can be an invaluable asset.  GPS may still work, even if gps goes down you still have maps.  Angry birds to help combat boredom, ballistics app to help with those long shots, whether it be a deer or a DPRK grunt. Or just a simple alarm clock. Basically you have a small pocket size computer.

  12. If most of your shooting experience is with a scoped rifle, that may be part of the problem.  You are accustomed to putting your face to a scoped rifle to the point that it has become a natural habit.  With a bead sight you need to get your line of sight right down the receiver.  If you will be shooting slugs on a regular basis, I defer to my original suggestion.  Get a cantilever rifled barrel, red dot and shoot the vastly superior sabot slugs.  If you are just messing around to see what slugs can do, aim lower (aka holdover).
