Fingerprints and the course need to be done in TX. Fingerprint scheduling gets busy in the bigger cities, so make sure you plan at least a few weeks in advance so you can make it all happen within the same day. You can mail in the paperwork once you're home, or you can submit online if you have a high quality color scanner (mainly for the ID photo). It's definitely doable. I did mine in a 3 day trip. I believe the prints have to be in tx.

What town is this? I just waited 90+ days for a change of address in Wallington...You make a great point. Look at me here thinking about spending $500+ instead of taking the $2 hit on an expired permit. My town used to be great. Never waited more than 6 weeks for a permit. The last time around it took over 90 days from the date of submission and the PD was very uncommunicative during the process. Left a sour taste in my mouth. I can't imagine the thought of going through all that aggravation again.
Roger recently came out with a 4" SP101 in 357. Not a light trigger, but should be a fun little popper.

It worked, so I wasn't asking questions!Chiropractors do prints in Midland? That's a broad range of services Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I did tell people what it's like here in NJ, and how they should support the effort to change it before it spreads west. However, I don't think TX is too worried...

This is the guy I used for my Texas CHLhttp://www.bigthunderfirearms.com/Recommend by a fellow forum member and I definitely recommend him.
Amazingly, it all worked out. Here's how I went about it:
I did the course in Houston and met with Jason (http://www.bigthunderfirearms.com/) on Monday night. We met at a range he chose and took care of the qualifying first. He even snuck a little bit of coaching in there and got me punching the same hole by the end of it. The course was a 1-on-1 discussion over dinner. He really took his time on the concept of force v deadly force before moving onto rights and made sure I understood my rights and how they factor into various scenarios. I certainly recommend him, both for his knowledge and enthusiasm on the topic.
Fingerprints in Houston were impossible, but I was traveling to Midland the next day. I found a chiropractor right in Midland that had a completely open schedule and the whole process was easy as pie. 10 minutes and 10 dollars later, I was on my way.
Now I'm home and just need a passport photo before I mail it all to TX DPS.

Nah, I hear it's just a short trip for a true Texan!Wow...that's a hell of a difference in locations.
Boo, thanks for the heads up on the prints. I got in touch with Jason and hopefully can work out a plan.

I'll be in TX next week and its likely I can carve out some time to take a CHL course. Anyone have recommendations in either Houston or Midland?

There have been plenty of studies that show males are more likely to attempt suicide by a violent method (e.g. firearm, hanging), while women send to attempt a more passive method (e.g. overdose). Any business like GFH certainly pays liability insurance based on their policies.I was standing in Ottomanelli's when a guy said he was going home to get his brother because he was yet to get his FID and was turned down to shoot at GFH. This was on Friday or Saturday of this past week. I guess they think women are less likely to do the deed this way? Unsure the specific rule but anecdotally that is what I had heard recently.

Looks pretty good!I was going to get the conversion kit. In fact I was kicking my self last christmas for NOT getting it when all those discounts were stacking. However i have to say, this was a great choice. I would have bought a used 92FS to perch the kit on to anyways. IF you were the type who doesn't mind converting back and forth all the time, then the kit might be a better choice. If you would have wound up perching it on a frame (semi) permanently, then frankly the new gun is a better deal. In my not so humble opinion of course.
I got a 22 conversion kit last year for $194 with all the stacked discounts, but this beats the $390 full price any day of the week.

First off, it's good to know there are other pilots buzzing around here.
Secondly, Central Jersey has been $4.50/gal for 100LL. It runs out from time to time.
So, I have my Private cert. If I could get the FAA to effectively sponsor my CCW in the name of national security, that would be a very mother freedom-loving cool day.

This got me curious how pilots are treated in NJ. At the least, it would be an interesting way to approach justifiable need.

So I read some comments. This is the audience. There is no winning this debate. If I could be a stay-at-home-cat-mom I would. She's the cuddliest.
The author also claims this transpired 10 years ago, so likely that her admitted felonies are way past any statute of limitations.

Smokin 50 got it right. I learned how to safely shoot a BB gun in the Cub Scouts before moving up to a 22 bolt action and 20ga in the Boy Scouts. There were rules, and those rules were tightly followed.
One father was a DEA agent and gave an inspiring demo of exactly how dangerous an Uzi can be, but that's a bit off topic.

Welcome aboard. Do you already have other pistol permits? Depending on your local PD, that can help slow down any impulse purchases!
686 is a real nice machine and a 92FS Compact Inox would certainly make an attractive companion in your safe. Give that a look, along with the X-grip so you can run it seamlessly with normal 15rd mags (aka cheap milsurp mags).

What am I even reading?
This is why we can't have nice things.

It works. I've been using it for dogs and the bears. The bears now skirt the paths at the house, preferring not to get hit.
On a serious note, those Super Calibre out of a 10/22 are are quiet as fingers snapping, but I don't think you'd be making the right choice with that round even if legal. These non lethal deterrents seem like a good idea.

The CM 400/450's are nice little Hondas, but it's only worth $1k. Certainly not a classic. My first bike was an '80 CM400T in super condition and I only paid $650 for it.Cycle must be valued greater than $3500 for Hagerty to write a policy. Having some trouble getting valuation on it. It's a CM 450C, the websites I've checked do not list a 450C (as in custom), similar bikes seemed to be valued below $3500 though.
I did get quotes through progressive and GEICO, and am now considering switching my Harley to one of them as well. I can't stand any of their freaking commercials, but they do have good rates. Might need to look at auto as well. I do like the fact that I've got auto, home, and life all through one agent. Only one I've had since leaving my parent's policy. They actually know me by name and face if I walk into the office. I had my Harley and V-Star before that insured through them as well until they doubled the rates.
Ride it and remember your buddy. That's about all you should do.

That burns me. HPD has someone do part but not all of the job, then punts on the delay.I got in touch with him yesterday after my post, he finally said that his job was done, it was moved on to the lieutenant for criminal check and should be another 4-6 weeks.
So i am looking at over 6 months. At least i know where i stand but that is a long long time.
Nothing wrong with calling to check. I think it was Lt Marnell in charge of this prior. If you want to call to check each week, I believe x2104 will get you straight to their buereu of investigation.

Welcome to the suck. I just did a round of permits and politely told them I refuse to fill their illegal forms. They will send a form to your employer asking about firearms, just so you know. That's not the intention of confirming your employment, but they seem to sneak it in.Hey guys, ive been lurking on this site for a while. Some good stuff here.
I recently moved to NJ from NYC, ( went through the whole process there to get a Rifle permit) but i have to say NJ is alot worse.
Hoboken PD,
Officer McDamara (sp) handles the paperwork it seems.
I applied for an initial FID and a few p2p around Feb 20. Also filled out Hoboken PD question form. Initially told 3 months.
March 3 was figerprinted
Early May my references were mailed and promptly returned.
I called about a month ago and got the run around, was told that FID's were not important to them and they have better things to do.
Not given any info on timing, just that he has to his job and the Lu has to do his, whatever that means.
Heading into the 5th month of waiting.
NYC permits were costly, took some time, but were not as invasive as NJ, i think it took around 3 months and during that time Sandy Conn, happened so there was a big surge.
McNamara is a nice guy, but they stick guys like him on desk detail when they should be retiring instead. Keep on him and push the issue right back. I called each week and it took 85 days.

Is it really the density or that steel has significantly higher tensile strength and thus are more like to penetrate?Heads use ferrous metals for core. They attract magnets. Increase risk for sparks on the range and possibly starting a fire. Also, density makes them tough on the backstop at the range.

I have the same CX4 with iron sights. I did the kitchen-table trigger job and found it helped with the rough break a tad. How do you like the sierrapapa job?I recently bought a Beretta CX4 in 9mm, with the 92FS magazines. It's a LOT of fun to shoot, and at 25 yds it makes one hole (almost) with the iron sights. I already have about 20 92 mags for my M9A1, so I wanted that model.
The trigger is a little mushy, so it's going to sierrapapacx4.com this weekend for their full trigger upgrade parts install.
It's a lot of fun.
I have a bunch of lever action 357/38 rifles too, and they are also a lot of fun.
For the record, the CX4 does quite a nice job at 100yds too.

I have a mosquito sport and would hardly call that reliable! My Mosquito is a newer model and is reliable when fed CCI MiniMags (recommended by Sig). I get 1-2 FTF/50 rounds and 1-2 FTE/100 rounds. CCI minimags are hard to find. If I had to do it over, Iwould've gotten a Buckmark instead.
If I had to do it again, I would get a staple gun instead of this clunker. IMHO, there is zero Sig quality in these pistols.

Just since no one else mentioned it, Beretta has a very nice 22lr "practice kit" that fits on any 92 or 96 variant and also retains all the function of the full-house pistols. It's a nice way to transition new shooters, since the grip and trigger pull will all be identical when you swap back to 9mm or 40SW.

An expensive solution is to cerakote the PPQ tan so it's all matchy-matchy. I'd go with tan pants then too.
