  1. I did a quick drive-by(209 Chestnut st) on the way to the bank yestrday. Not much there, its a small narrow building that looks more like a forgotten warehouse than anything else thats crammed in between a few parking lots. Could barely see the front dr because of some bulk storage stuff in front but there is RRC on the dr. Cant hold more than a few ports and maybe 25 yds if that. Is it active? IDK looks like a relic from the past but who knows that may be by design to be out of sight/out of mind and it is in the ANJRPC list. If anyone cares enough you can look at it via a google map street view.

This thread had me thinking... I'd assume the Ridgewood PD could tell you if it is active or not.

  2. I went down the same path last year. My dad is 81, arthritis in the hand, old torn rotator cuff, quad bypass,etc... but otherwise healthy. I wanted to find the softest shooting gun I could manage for under $1,000 so he could handle 100 rounds without pain. I scoured the used racks until I found a Remington 1100 LT-20. I even got a slip-on recoil pad to size the pull for him. What a smoooooooooth shooting gun!

So, we practiced on weekends for a few months and he did alright with the LT-20. One day I brought out a Stoeger STF3000 (Dick's special version of the Condor). $300 gun, nice lockup. Now he smokes'em and won't shoot anything else!

A bad back is a balance issue. I'd suggest a Montefeltro in 12ga with a slip on recoil pad. Happy shooting!

Is there a translation of what this signifies?

  4. In NJ it's required, or its not an inhabitable dwelling. Hot water as well. Other states do things differently lol.

Cite please? By that standard, all the cabins at Boy Scout camp should be condemned.

  5. Same here, my father and I joined last weekend. We spent the rest of the morning at the plinker range ringing steel with 22. Another new member even let me try out his rifle when I asked how he liked it!

After years of shooting indoors at BulletHole, it is just GREAT to get outside. When I showed my wife a photo of the 200yd range, all she said was "And this is New Jersey?! Cool".

  6. my son had a redryder at 5 days old (gift to him from my father who never was alowed one as a kid), and he technically picked out the wasr at 6mo old..... havent let him shoot either yet, still working on that walking thing.

i fired my first gun, a 22 revolver at about 5 years old. mom and stepmom are both anti, so there was a lapse untill i picked it up as an adult again. my son will have a 10/22 sooner then latter but ill keep it for him untill i fell hes ready for it. My cousins started somewhere in their teens doing .22 and shoot mostly 20 gauge now.

when i think hes ready for safe handling practices well star there and see how it goes. its really up to the each individual child and the accompanying parent, there is no "right" age

The Cub Scout had me shooting BB at 7yo, then Boy Scouts had me shooting .22 bolt rifle and 20ga pump at 11yo. Each time touching a gun was highly structured and involved the requisite safety brief before and during shooting.

Like you, I have 2 boys under three years old. I bought a few 22's recently for when they get older (at least, that's how I explain the new guns to my wife). In the meantime, I think it's my fatherly duty to keep all of "their" guns in good functioning order until they get old enough.

  7. I converted my 70s Lemans Sport from a QQHistoric to a regular registration and the lady at the DMV counter gave me a "post card" which spelled out the tailpipe exemption for vehicles 1995 or older (mine is a 1970 model which did not have a catalytic converter from the factory). She told me just keep it in the car - you don't need to get your car inspected.

Now I can actually drive it on Sundays without the fear of either: a) getting pulled over because I am not going/entering it in a car show or b) God forbid getting into an accident and my insurance refusing my claim because I was driving it for leisure and not as prescribed in the vague law governing historic motor vehicles.

You need to dump your insurance and go with Grundy. I don't have those restrictions on my '93 vette and premium is $250.

  8. I'm not sure what the above exchange has to do with car registration, but it sure underscores the convoluted "gotta know somebody" environment that causes so many problems in this state.

I have PBA cards but never asked for them. I also do my best to follow the law or speak up in court when they work improperly against me.

That reminds me, time to write my legislators to complain about the $65 registration if there will be no inspection to fund.

  9. So please tell me what my $71.50 goes to pay for? Undercarriage inspection in NJ was history a LONG time ago. Ball joints, struts, brakes, alignment, the works....all gone. Cars can be a POS & get passed just cause they pass the plug-in test. Even cracked windshields pass. So why bother?

I'm still trying to figure of what my $65 motorcycle registration goes toward...
