  1. Christ on a crutch. Chinese water torture. Don't you know three f-ing people who a reasonable person in whatever context would not refer to as your "family" or relative? Is it worth the risk of re-doing the paperwork to prove the point to a bureaucrat that your wife is really and truly not related to you?

I suggest you head over to the current discussion on the meaning of "one gun per month."

I'm sure there's an online tool you can find. Enter the relationship, it tells you if that person is a relative.

I used it. I was surprised to see my son is actually related to me. That's not what the mailman said. Could have knocked me over with a feather.

Read the definition again. Your wife's child is still your relative, mailmen aside.

  2. ^ that's interesting to know, thanks. I always thought it was illegal but obviously still showed my wife how a gun works because if it hits the fan you gotta do what you gotta do.

Ok, I had to review all the relevant sections of 2C, but haven't found what I was looking for. Unfortunately, I may have lead you astray.

    Anyway, here goes...

I'm tired and overworked lately, so I may have been thinking of 2C:39-5 g.(1) and 2C:39-5 g.(2) where it states that temporary possession is not unlawful possession. Unfortunately, that temporary possession under 2C:58-3.2 is not unlawful because it's for target practice.

I'll keep reading for what I thought was the relevant passage, but don't let your wife shoot any intruders until then...ok?

  3. Then again if you are worried about something have your dad get a FID, keep a shotgun at the business, and if your life is in danger who cares about the law, there is an available firearm, use it !

I forget the passage, but there I believe there is amnesty from an illegal transfer if used in a defense situation (I.e. You grab dads gun, which he stores at his place of business.) This does not allow you to carry, as covered already.

  4. One of those cheap red/green 4 reticle pattern sights that are all made in China but marketed under many different names - if you pay more than $30 for it, you're paying too much:

    gsg-522-red-dot1.jpg

I put that on a Beretta Cx4 to see if the concept worked. $19 well spent and the 9mm doesn't seem to effect it holding zero.

The only thing I'd critique for your application is that this red dot reticle is a bit larger than a .22 hole at 50 yards. Still worth it though.

  5. As Always..

Great advice from this forum.. Thanks for the info, didn't even cross my mind about the extra barrel

I'll most likely pick up the 28" 12ga synthetic stock version.

Definitely scrounge around for an extra barrel. If money is tight and you're familiar with eBay, you will find there is an entire world out there waiting to be explored. You could even buy a cheap old 26" or 28" barrel and simply cut it down to length with a hacksaw. Have fun, stay safe!

  6. I'm still waiting but the rebate now says this:

"Your submission has been processed and your response has been mailed. You should receive it by August 21, 2016. If by this date you have not received your response, please contact us at 1-888-859-6995. Thank you."

I sent in a LOT of upc labels, so they better be making good on this.

  7. ^^^Agree. Which is why I tell my friends (who will listen) to go "Old School" and write a paper check to the significant other you pay rent to (IF you're not on the lease :) ) Makes things a LOT easier to prove who was paying for what, if it should come down to that... Last time I looked copies of bank records of cancelled checks can be entered into evidence at a hearing or used in the Discovery Process should a problem arise... Friend of mine did what I told him and had to produce proof the stuff in the apartment was HIS and that he belonged there. He said "how many cancelled checks do you wanna see for half the rent?" and it shed new light on the situation!

Great example. Personally, I could never move in with a girlfriend. My wife would kill me!

Regarding the "absolutes" comment though, perhaps this article will help with the next challenge that comes up.

  8. Going back around 12-18 months ago there was a thread on this forum (but I can't find it now) that a member reported that he did the whole Texas CHL shebang on a 12 hour layover in Houston. His NJGF screen name is jfoster99. I PM'ed him for details and he was very helpful. The guy he used was Jason Page. When I checked Jason's name I found he was associated with bigthunderfirearms.com in Houston. IIRC, Jason arranged just about everything, including driving him to get his prints. Due to family issues I was never able to make the trip down there, but if PA winds up queering the NH non-resident permit I'm waiting for, I may very well take a trip to TX.

I ended up taking the class with Jason as well. Top-notch.

Definitely schedule your fingerprints ahead of time. The Houston area locations are always busy.

  9. Awesome collection of tips here. Thanks to all who contributed!

I see Cipro mentioned a few times and I'd like to take the opportunity to emphasize the importance of knowing what's in your kit. I took Cipro last summer for food poisoning and was functionality crippled within 3 days due to the well-documented reaction that some people have where it depletes connective tissue. It took me months before I could resume strenuous physical activity to the level I was previously. If it were a SHTF scenario, I would have been useless and dead in no time.

In short, study the side effects of anything you stock.

  10. I will have to hold the PPQ and the VP9 in hand in store - I will admit that my hands are less than average sized (I'm a Medium in motorcycle gloves), and on my G26 I can just reach the mag release - If I got the PPQ I'd really like the M2 version with the traditional mag release, both PPQ and VP9 have backstraps and side panels for grip so that should be nice and I'll have to see if I can configure it small enough to be comfy in the hand.

I did the same think and chose the PPQ M1 when they were $500 over the Vp9 for $700. If you like one, you'll likely love the other as well. Good luck choosing!

Keep in mind that only the VP9 has adjustable side panels. I heard some people mix and match with small and medium grip parts, but it may not even make a difference.

  11. Just to pile on the enthusiasm, Ithaca 37! I have a 1974 and the action is as smooth as butter.

Be advised, models prior to 1975 can "slam fire" if you keep the trigger pulled when pumping. Also note that earlier models (late 1950's) do NOT have interchangeable barrels.

  12. Well so far these places are about as far away from his travel route as you can get. OP said he's crossing at Milford, PA., so either continue on Route 6 or jump onto Route 84 at the top of the hill west of Milford.

Not much to recommend for that travel route, I usually go up Routes 447 and 191 or 196 from the Water Gap.

Indeed! Dunklebergers is nearly an hour away.

Apple Valley Family Restaurant is what you're looking for. The rest of Milford is filled with trinket stores.

  13. Here is another thing you might want to try. RTSP in Randolph has a great shooting simulator. I believe they have a similar one at FSS in Whippany, and probably others out there. The one in Randolph uses real guns like Beretta 92 and Glock 17, but they don't fire ammo. Rather they have lasers both visible and nonvisible. They also use a magazine that is gas operated that racks the slide after each shot and gives partial recoil. They then project scenarios on a huge wall that is something like 20 feet by 10 feet. Some are static while others have moving targets. The system can be set so you don't see the laser at all and you have to learn to use and trust your sights. They can then play back the scenario and you can see how well you did and where your shots hit. This can provide some great training at a lot less cost than what you would spend on ammo.

Best simulator I ever used was at Gander Mountain out in Kansas. The 180 degree and 300 degree rooms keep your eyes moving and brain working. Best of all, they use a real 92FS or G17 with the barrel and magazine swapped out for the laser system. It's the most realistic recon you'll ever find without live fire. I would definitely recommend this type of system for scenario training, but it's probably way beyond your home budget.

  14. Please tell me aside from their trinkets and self-boosting propaganda what the fuc***g NRA has ever done for New Jersey (outside of training and certification, which they offer everywhere). They pick the low-lying fruit and boast about how they "protect" our "rights." They protect shit as far as I'm concerned. Like most large organizations they're a racket. They should be in court each and every day on behalf of NJ, MD, HI, and those states that lost rights after the CT massacre. Instead they offer me a 50-cent knife emblazoned with a representation of an eagle, which if I ever flashed in public would probably get me committed to Creedmore. I've scraped their sticker off my car, and I wouldn't wear their damned baseball cap if my life depended on it.

Don't worry. You only get a magazine with his deal. No hats or bags.

  15. I know, but I'm tired of being pist. They constantly lie against the facts and nobody holds them accountable.

Besides, they think we are nuts already. [emoji12]

You need some Rudyard Kipling, my friend. Rolling out the imaginative conspiracies is only playing into their extreme fears.

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

    But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
