  1. There are numerous possibilities. You mentioned heat and the fan, inverters aren't 100% efficient and the cheap ones are even worse. You probably looking at less than 70% efficiency at the upper end of capacity (300-400 watts) and even less under smaller loads. That fan is going to run even with a 1 watt load.

Next, those gel cells don't last forever, you sure it's still a 14Ah battery. Running it all the way to zero isn't doing it any good, they usually aren't deep-cycle batteries.

  2. I'm another one who has that "ready-to-assemble" cabinet. I covered the back with construction adhesive before attaching it to my foundation with half a dozen 1/2" lag bolts and anchors. It's not coming out without a cubic yard of concrete still attached to it. Pry it open or cut it open, but you won't be taking the whole thing.

I also lined the interior with ultra-cheap outdoor carpeting from home depot. It's the same stuff that most safes are lined with, holds Velcro, etc. and some thin weatherstripping around the door. The carpet looks much nicer and between it and the weatherstripping, the tinny steel cabinet sound is gone. I also replaced the shelf and racks with some scrap mahogany I had left from another project (with felt on the racks) and installed a battery powered light.

I currently have 5 long guns in it and I'll easily get a few more in it.

  3. I know this is a bit of a hijack, but it is about Rescue and I figure dog lovers are reading this one. I would be terrified if my dog was out in this weather.

Glad to see in the link that she's been found. I'm a block out of Millburn/Short Hills and was tempted to go out looking. My FCR (a rescue himself) seems to attract any loose dog within a block or two.

  4. Oenophile.

(Now I know you guys are wondering if that was something different that got auto corrected. Ha. )

    Is it porn?

    Porn in a glass.

I'd left that off my list. I realized long ago that my collection exceeds what I could ever utilize appropriately. No more purchases until I don't have to worry about keeping them "too long." I did get a kick out of the way you phrased it, especially since I'd decided against using the word "horology" on my previous post.

  5. Took my son for an outing at RTSP. brought along the 22/45, Sccy CPX-2 and a Springfield 1911. The Sccy is picky with ammo so I picked up a few new flavors to try out. Got a couple double feeds with Am. Eagle 124gn but the Am. Eagle 147gn and Win 9mm NATO 124gn cycled correctly every time.

The Springfield 1911 Loaded is my testbed for reloads and I brought a few rounds to try out, 230gn RN Berry's with 6.0 to 6.4gn of Unique.

  6. I've read that there's a decent chance of the president signing such a law if it included one or two concessions. It could be packaged as a common sense justice issue: Shaneen Allen, etc.

What might the concession be? Obama's legacy is already tarnished as a result of Obamacare and how he and our next president screwed up the middle east.

Hmmm, maybe universal background checks? A mostly unnecessary idea, and difficult to implement unless there was some way to do it online, privately, for $8. Enforcement would also be problematic if not impossible. Without actual registration it's impossible to tell where or how someone got a gun.

Hmmmm again...I see a good topic for a new thread. One that is sure to get me flamed.

I tend to agree with this, Obama has tossed a few bones our way, especially when it comes to CCW. He signed bills that gave us carry in National Parks and on Amtrak, and just recently allowed the CMP to sell 1911s. I also agree that there might be strings attached, but we can cross that bridge when (if) we come to it.

Sad fact is in all the past attempts of national reciprocity its been written in non-resident ccw from another state = no go in your home state = NJ residence are still screwed

Also true, National reciprocity would make non-resident permits obsolete. Without a major change, NJ residents would be just about the only people who couldn't carry in NJ.

You Can't!!!!  We need to vote them out of office!!!!  Easier said than done however due to the demographics of the PRNJ!!! We have lots of urban areas heavily populated with

people living on welfare and they always vote Democrat since they were brought up to think all Republicans are devils who only care for the rich and want to take their SH!T AWAY!!!!

LOL, I always get a kick when I see this sort of BS, You really need to check your facts. Go find a list of the most affluent states and check what color they are, then find a list of the poorest states and check the color. You could even find lists of the states with the largest percentage of residents on some sort of assistance or the highest poverty levels and check how they vote. Your ideas were half-truths, at best, a hundred years ago. Look up the demographics and you'll find that states with more affluence are blue, higher education tends to go blue too. NJ will never be red, there just aren't enough trailer parks.

OTOH, there are about 20 blue states with better gun laws than ours. Constitutional carry started in a blue state. You want better gun laws? Stop worrying about red or blue and just vote on the issues. Assuming "red=pro-2A" is what got us Christie, and he's no better than the worst of the dems,

  7. Again, you just don't get it. Read my goddamned posts and stop talking like a bratty teenager.

Who else or what else do you have?

Please name the people, organizations, or strategies capable of helping us more than the governor and I'll agree that I'm wrong.

Just list them. I'm an honest guy. I'll admit I'm wrong as I have many times.

Roflmao... I haven't been called a bratty teenager since the 70's. OTOH, you certainly come off as a "the ornery old man, stuck in his ways." Yet I doubt you're that much older than I am.

I've read your posts, plenty of them, even the silly ones about how a conservative estimate would be 2.8 votes for your cause from a household with 2 voters that aren't "single issue voters." I've agreed with some of your thoughts and disagreed with others.

It's pretty clear that one of us is not paying attention. Your question "who else or what else..." shows an utter lack of understanding of the problem. The word "else" does not belong in the sentence. (Please read the following sentence carefully) Chris Christie is not on your side, never was, never will be.(now read it again to make sure you didn't miss anything).

Christie has thrown us a few crumbs. Those crumbs were for his benefit, not ours. I can't name one thing that has improved under his watch. Are you really ready to settle for "we lost less than we would have with someone else?"

  8. You just don't get it, Christie was never "ALL WE HAD" because we never had him in the first place. You don't have to go back to 1993 to find the proof, Have you forgotten about the .50 cal ban he vetoed in 2013? That was legislation that he REQUESTED, but only vetoed it after being told by the New Hampshire GOP big wigs that it would ruin his chances of national office. Christie is "confiscate, confiscate," he just has to hide it or the party will disown him. He's vetoed a few things, as little as he could, but he's never given us a damn thing and he's taken plenty away from us.

Remember when the CMP could send a rifle to you without going through a FFL? How is that going for you with Christie?

Christie will pardon a few high profile cases to make them go away, but never mentions changing the law. HE DOESN'T EVEN MENTION THE POSSIBILITY!!! Don't make the news and you don't get a pardon.

Any idea when that committee will be formed to look into fixing out broken system? Don't hold your breath.

Stop confusing "our only hope" and "hopeless." I agree with you that we need to find a course and do something, but beating your head against a brick wall is not my idea of "doing something."

  9.

The best hope is to elect pro 2A Dem's if you can find them but they are out there.

I tried that line of thinking, it didn't go over well. Apparently most of the forum are not the one-issue-voters that they claim to be, they'll vote for any republican without checking to see if he's a gun-grabber first. That's how we got Christie.

Nobody wants to accept the fact that NJ is an affluent state and affluent states are always blue. Turning NJ red just isn't going to happen. There are plenty of blue states where the 2nd Ammendment is respected, and that's what we need to strive for. That's the only hope we've got.

  10. Oy vey we've been through this with at least 8-9 posts.

And yet, you insist there's hope for Christie...

You seem to have forgotten that Christie has been asked these questions a few times, and he's danced around with BS answers answers involving non-existent committees to re-evaluate existing laws and his hands are tied by the legislature. He talks a good game, but his record shows that he will not do a damn thing for us. You want to push for a change, great, but push where it might do some good. Find someone with a better record on 2A and push that person. It shouldn't be that hard to find someone with a better record, heck, even Obama has a better record than Christie when it comes to 2A. Maybe you should try asking Obama for help, you'd have a better chance than you do with Christie.

  11. There was an article in shotgun news on the subject a few months ago. According to several manufacturers, rimfire is more costly to produce than center fire and the margins are much lower. As a result, they'll be glad to keep producing at the current rate but no manufacturer is willing to invest in increasing production. Demand is at record levels so production isn't keeping up. It looks like the future of .22 is either higher prices or continued shortages.

Edit, the increased demand is not just from hoarders, but from the popularity of the new products on the market. All those .22 AR's, 1911's and conversion slides need to be fed.

  12. My FPID and first permits took exactly 30 days, I think my second set of permits took 33 days. Over the legal requirement, certainly, but I'm not sure that 3 days over is a strong follow up to the videos so far. Like n4p226r, the people I've dealt with have been straight with me, extremely helpful and never had any extra requirements.

I know that there are many other towns/cities that are as bad as, or worse than Orange. Spotlight a dozen or so egregious violations and we might actually be getting somewhere. Go after towns that took an extra 3 days once and we get labeled as a bunch of whiners.
