  1. I shot my friends x95 and it was pretty cool.  The ergonomics was pretty good but getting used to the grip/trigger position was a little odd.  It was fun to shoot with very little recoil, but I don't think I would spend that much money on a single firearm.  He just put on a scope and was still working on getting it zeroed but the iron sights were nice and accurate.

  2. Hardyston Township (Hamburg)

    4/16 - Applied for 4 permits

5/24 - All paperwork received (one reference misplaced the form and HR was slow to return employment verification)

    6/15 - Permits ready

It took 2 months but could have possibly been one month if it weren't for the delays on "my" side.  My initial with 5 permits took 2 months also.

  3. Lots of great info here.  I think single stage would be the way to go.  Do most of the Lee kits include the same accessories?  As if I bought a challenger kit, then got a turret press only, would the turret kit actually contain everything else that was in the challenger kit?  I will also look at other brands and the used market.

  4. I'm looking to get into reloading and kind of narrowed it down to either the Lee 50th Anniversary or the Classic Turret kits.  I currently shoot .223/5.56, 9mm and 40S&W at about 125 rounds of rifle and 100-9/50-40SW pistol.  I'm looking to get into another rifle round .243/7.62x39//308 in the future.  So would one press be better than the other?  I would do my reloading the day before I shoot.  I think from an initial investment, the Anniversary kit would be better, but I'd love to get any and all opinions.  Given that, is there anywhere local in NJ to get powder and primers?  Bullets seem cheap enough on line, but the powder/bullets get the hazmat fee added on.  I'm going to Check out Garden State Armory, but if there's anything in the Sussex/Morris/Essex county or even by Easton, which is where I mainly go to shoot now, that would be great.

  5. I'm on my 7th Subaru.  Started with a 86 GL, 93 Legacy, 97 Legacy, 2003 Outback wagon, 2003 Legacy GT and 2013 Impreza.  I had a Mazda and Toyota thrown in the mix, but I'm a Subaru guy.  Up until my 2013, maintenance was a piece of cake.  Easy to maintain and ran like a champ.  With the exception of the outback, which we traded in for a Honda Odyssey for my wife, the Subaru's all ran 200K+.  Also, between the first and most recent, all of the Subarus were bought used with 100K miles on them already.  The only bummer, as stated earlier, is if you blow a tire and the set has excessive wear, you'll need to replace them all.  That's what you get for full time AWD, but my Impreza gets 32+ MPG mixed in warm months and gose down to about 27 MPG in the cold months.  My next Suby will be an STi....  :)

  6. Ihrocker. 223 2-3-400-500 yard. Youre good. If youre shooting 1.5 moa at 50 yards. Somethings wrong. Thats a 3 moa rifle. You best work on your trigger control or you got a problem with your rifle. Even the shittiest rifle should hit 1.5-2 moa. A larger caliber wont help you if your moa is that off

The 1.5 moa is me and not the rifle.  I just started going more often and am getting better.

  7. Thanx for all of the suggestions.  I was thinking .308, either heavy barrel or AT pattern.  Not in a rush as I'd like to get good with what I have before moving forward.  A larger caliber will make seeing the bullet holes easier, I hope.

  8. I've been shooting for over a year now.  I have currently have 2 .22LR and 2 .223/5.56.  I mainly target shoot out to 100 yards but would like to go further (200 - 300).  What would be the next suggested caliber to move to?  Would you go up to a .308 or stay rimfire with 1HMR/22 mag?  I'm in not rush as I'm still shooting about 1.5 moa at 50 yards.

    Thanx - Pete

  9. Well I got to the range on Sunday and it was great.  Nice weather and after finding the entrance, it was a great time.  The Range Officers were nice as well as all of the shooters.  The RO gave me instructions on what I could do and when it could be done.  I shot my 10/22 and AR-15 at the rifle range. The range was hot roughly 15 minutes and cold 5 for reloading.  It wasn't too crowded when I got there but was filling up by the time I left.  Next time, I'll bring some handguns to shoot at the pistol range alos.  It was under a 90 minute ride from where I live, which is an hour further than RTSP, I think it will be my goto range in the warmer months, including spring and fall.  Currently under $10 for gas and tolls vs. $35 with my son at RTSP.

  10. I bought a complete Core 15 upper for my first AR build.  Now that i'm almost finished (just waiting for my fixed stock), I would like to prep it for it's first outing at the range.  When I got the upper, it was covered in  bubble wrap and the charging handle/bolt assembly was highly oiled.  So is the stuff that was on the rifle used to keep it from rusting while in the box, or is it lube and can be fired as is?

Since this is the first time I'm building, I just want to confirm is it needs to be cleaned and relubed or it can be assembled and fired.

    Thanx,

    Pete

  11. Kudos to Mike and Tier 1. I emailed him at 9 pm at night to get some info for a pin and weld. I touched base with him the following morning for a 7pm appointment. Got there, he was very friendly, did the work in 15 minutes and I was on my way. Super service - I will definitely go back to him for all my gunsmith need.

  12. Nope.  I just got my upper today and it looks really cool with good fit and finish.  I'm in no rush to build this, but I checked out some vids on getting a stripped lower and assembling from scratch.  That may be the way to go.  I may go to RTSP and pick up a lower from them.  I'm still waiting for my muzzle brake.

  13. So I ordered this complete upper from shooters warehouse:

    http://www.shooterswarehouse.com/Upper-On-Sale-Core-15-Complete-AR-Upper-p/core13976.htm

and will order one of these lowers from Palmettos:

    or   http://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-ar15-moe-sl-complete-lower-black.html

I should have my muzzle break by the end of the week so I'll remove the flash hider and get the compliance work done on the upper when I receive it.  Looks like an easy "assembly" for a first timer.

Will hopefully have everything ready to go in a few weeks.
