Knocking em for their proprietary rail. Also think they're priced a bit high but im chalking that up to a supply and demand thing for this particular rifle .. Posted a link to M4carbine.net where people have described them as being hit or miss as far as accuracy goes. They also go on to describe a lawsuit and some shady business practices from the company.

That being said im between picking up a Modern Materiel and an LWRC other firearm given the options right now.

1: the lawsuits involve the former owner Paul Lightner-Wise who is eccentric to be as PC as possible. They also have a lawsuit against Sig Sauer for Patent infringement on their short stroke piston which they use in the MCX.

    2. Their proprietary rail has pro’s and cons to it. It’s a pain in the ass to get accessories, very few places make direct mount equipment for LWRC rails, you can use the Pic rail attachments but I think it’s more cumbersome that way. The plus side is being the thinnest rail system for a piston gun. Shoot a Sig MCX, 516 or 716 they are not the most ergonomic.

    3. Their prices reflect their quality, they manufacture everything house and quality control the fuck out of it. Receivers go through an X-Ray for imperfections, barrels, nickel boron parts are all made in house. Say your basic AR cost $800. You then put a new rail, piston retrofit, nickel boron BCG, H2 buffer, ambidextrous controls and cerakote the gun, you’re looking to spend the same amount of money.

The only upgrades I’ve done to mine is I changed the stock for a Magpul SL and installed a Geissele SSA-E, which i could have gotten for cheaper from the factory.

that said it’s not the holy grail of AR-15’s. The piston system heats the gun up real fast, you also get carbon all over your hands because of the piston, not the end of the world but it’s an inconvenience. For what I paid for mine, $2000 it’s a damn good rifle and I don’t feel like I overpaid.

    I like my SR-15 a lot more because I paid $1600 for it, that’s a different story.

Have to agree with Maksim ..I think a lot of it comes down to features. LWRCs proprietary rail doesn’t thrill me. Also want to note it’s a shame most of these rifles won’t see 1k rounds.. Would be cool to get a low cost semi informal monthly meetup/training session going somewhere but I digress..

For anyone still on the fence take a look at this thread: https://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?200867-Current-state-of-LWRC

Granted, it’s from 2017. Would argue the site was more critical of AR builds then.

Their proprietary rail is annoying, same issue with my Knights Mod 0...that being said LWRC is the only short piston rifle with a rail that isn’t cumbersome. See anything piston driven from Sig Sauer, LMT or HK.

My M6IC has seen 5k rounds, 1k suppressed and no issues. I’ve cleaned it 3 times and it didn’t really need it. I don’t shoot it as much now that I know it’s reliable and proven, in the last 12 months I’ve shot it 5 times and maybe 1k rounds in that time. Been shooting my SR-15 and my Noveske a lot more.

  3. it's a good talking point. If you're going with a 12."5 barrel (which most of these are) with a muzzle device makes it close to 15". My SR-15 is a 14.5 pinned to 16" and I don't notice much of a difference between that and my Non-NFA in side by side, ergonomically speaking. In comparison to my LWRC which is NJ compliant the 16" barrel with muzzle brake pinned makes the barrel 18.5", my SR-15 and Noveske Non-NFA are more ergonomic, hell both are much lighter than the LWRC but there's a lot of rifles lighter than LWRC. Ballistically my SR-15 and LWRC are much better than the Noveske, less concussion with an extra few inches of rifling for the round to go through.

Objectively the biggest difference is the rifle would have to be made compliant to NJ's AWB while the Non-NFA's don't and the difference between a pistol brace and stock is minimal with 5.56.

Subjectively the biggest difference I can run a suppressor on the Noveske when I'm with friends in free states who have them, I can't do that with my Knight's unless I swap out the brake for another suppressor ready brake. It's also nice to run a flash hider on the Noveske, brakes on 5.56 are a bit overkill. I had a surefire brake on my Noveske until recently and the concussion drove me nuts.

  4. depends where you buy. When I bought my LWRC rifle I paid $2000 from Luciano's in Lodi. RTSP, Ottomanelli and a few other well known retailers wanted $2700-2900 for the same gun.

Here's an updated version of mine, I put an SBA4 on.

    Noveske Gen 1 Lower

Noveske Gen 1 complete upper 12.5" Barrel, NSR-11 rail, SiCo ASR 3 Prong

    Radian Raptor Charging Handle

    Geissele G2S trigger

    BCM VFG

    Reptilia CQG grip

    LWRC Skirmish sights

    Trijicon MRO w/Geissele Mount.

Without optic I spend $1500 on this build.

  5. assuming they used a roll pin, a drill bit should fit right in the roll pin, then go in reverse and the pin would come out. I had to do this on my LWRC, I didn't know the LOP was much shorter with the LWRC stock than a magpul stock. I pulled the pin, moved the stock where I wanted it and drilled a new place for the pin to go.

So I have not played with Joe's rifles... Waiting for @Modern Materiel to get me and @Rufio.Weaponworks one to demo for videos and magazines.  But I have now put a few hundred rounds through my Troy A4 and should have a Dark Storm Variant this week.

I will not be making a comment or opinion on Modern Materiel until I try any of their rifles or firearms. I have been trying to work with MM for a year about arranging a range day to demo their product and publish an article on one of my many channels and haven’t been able to get them to commit to a range day. :dontknow:

  7. super annoying. I understand the tactical advantage of their turrets vs. large knobs but if everyone else in the red dot market can figure out a way to make it work while still being user friendly, Trijicon can too.

  8. mine has a Surefire Socom brake, that explains it  I want to switch it for the socom 3 prong or maybe the Q cherry bomb since it doesn't require timing, just a 1/2" socket and torque it to spec and you're good. I'll have to ask my friends in free states what cans they have so I can get the right muzzle device for their cans. Shooting it suppressed is a lot more enjoyable

  9. In most of my comparisons between Nightforce and Trijicon, I like Trijicon more. Their glass is slightly better, I just hate their turrets on everything except the accupower models. I dislike the lack of audible clicks in the adjustments with the MRO, ACOG, Accupoints...basically everything they make except the Accupower. I like how the Accupower requires no tools for the zero stop and the turrets have 1/4 MOA adjustments, but the Accupower 1-8 is a tank for an optic.

The biggest advantage to Trijicon over nightforce is the ability to shop around for a better price. Nightforce sets a strict rule on their pricing so unless you're buying used or on ebay, you won't find much love on the price. I bought my MRO for $300 +$85 Geissele mount. The Accupower 1-8 has an MSRP of $1600 I believe, but I've seen sites selling for $1200, sometimes as low as $900.

You're wrong. At least according to the NJSP. I had Federally approved AOWs way back when, and NJSP FIU said to get rid of them. I couldn't convince them that they were wrong.

really? The NJ gun laws have said Class 1 NFA items are permitted....I'll take your word for it.

like I've said before, I have my 07/03 and built one on my books a while ago, I built a Noveske 5.56 12.5" barrel, unsuppressed the concussion and blowback is annoying and I don't shoot it often for this reason. I had a Surefire Warden on mine for a bit which helped with the concussion but it was still annoying. Go 300blk or 9MM if you're going to build one. I'm very tempted to sell my 12.5" upper and get the Noveske 9mm 10.5" complete upper and use the endo mags since they work with Glock and Colt style BCG's.

    Steiner P4Xi.

Costs just a little bit more than an MRO or PRO.

Best value in LPVO out there - IMO.

hmm I'll look in to it, thanks! I had a Leupold 1.5-4x on my LWRC and I just sold it...great glass I just wasn't a fan of it, I wanted a true 1x instead but I paid $300 for it so that wasn't a bad deal :) thanks for the pointer on the steiner, looks like a tank! (wanna trade a leupold LCO for one ;) ), I see these going for $650 most websites, is that about right? I paid $380 for my MRO + geissele mount, hopefully I can find a PX4i for less?

Got the trijicon 1-8 on my 3gun rifle.

considering one of these for my .22 upper. https://www.primaryarms.com/pa-1-6x24mm-ffp-illuminated-rifle-scope-with-acss-raptor-556-reticle-black

I run my Trijicon on my AR10, it's a great optic but too heavy and bulky for me to put on a AR15. I hear great things about the PA 1-6, that's a top tier scope for a .22 I recently got a HK416 .22lr, I'm gonna run something cheap on like a PA Red dot or a cheapo LPVO

I have prescription glasses and still have the issue. I was told that custom shooting glasses are going to run around $1500. At that price I might as well look into Lasik.

I had lasik done 2 years ago which corrected an astigmatism for me and I still don’t see the most crisp dot, my MRO is the best of the 3 I own though.

When i wore glasses I had an EOTech, worked great. Light sensitivity was a side effect of getting lasik done and the EO was too bright for my eyes so I got rid of it.

3 of my rifles have red dots, 1 has a NX8 and another has a Trijicon 1-8, LVPO’s work best for me, just sadly can’t afford a $1600 optic on all of my guns

  13. I got rid if my EOTech for an MRO, I love it. I also have a Leupold LCO, I thought it worked in both red and green dot, but I was wrong. Either way the LCO is awesome too.

Law folder will still allow one round to be fired folded. I believe there was another thread, that stated NJSP said no go because it’s capable to fire while folded unlike the sub2k etc.

Correct but these non NFA guns aren’t subject to assault weapon laws.

The connecticut case is a with a CZ Scorpion which does shoot and cycle with the brace folded, which is why they measure from the hinge
