  1. So far my fav's in terms of looks are below. I like simple ...

    Colt Govt, Combat, etc

    STI

    Taurus PT911

    S&W Pro

    Wilson Elite

Lots of expensive gear here! but I am going to start off with a used but reliable one. Of course, I will need to try out several before I will know which ones work for me.

I am going to OBRPC today evening (6:30-7) to meet up with hiker88, so if anyone is a member there and willing to let me shoot their 1911 I would greatly appreciate it. Please PM me with your cell # and I will get in touch.

  2. Radek, is reverse of Kedar. Kedar is my 2nd given name.

A while ago I came across a name "Radek Sviraj", which for some reason interested me ... so I decided to use Radek. No, I am not from the eastern Europe.

@ axeman_g/Gerry, good idea to start this thread ... one of my hobbies is to guess the origins of people, unusual names/places ...

  3. First of all, are any belts or mag pouches disallowed in competition? If not, then following is relevant to ask.

I am wondering, what's so special about these CR / AA belts - why so expensive? It's nylon outer, w/ Velcro on the inner layer for adjustment ... or am I missing something? Maybe it's just the brand name?

For example, I see this Safariland nylon belt at Brownells, $25 shipped. I also have a UTG belt with essentially same function, bought for under $10! I am sure there is difference in quality of construction ... but I don't want to pay more than I have to.

Similar question on mag pouches to go with the belt. I got several single and double mag pouches (made in Israel) from CDDN recently that cost much less than the CR branded mag pouches. Are the branded ones needed?

I came across this holster rig while searching. Of course, this is a CR knock-off ...

  4. The Neos is sent back to Baretta factory for a recall fix.

@ wojo, I had purchased a Ruger MK III from a forum member a while ago, which I haven't picked up yet due to PP delays. It was for my daughter, but now she wants to shoot larger calibers !:icon_e_surprised: It's already paid for, but I could sell it to you if you are interested. Sending you PM. Gun is in PA, so will need to be transferred via FFL in NJ.

Stainless steel with fluted 6 7/8 barrel. About 200 rounds through it. Comes with a pair of Hogue rubber grips and the original cocobolo grips, 2 ten round mags, scope mount and the box with everything when purchased it new.

    Gun is in mint condition.

  5. Pronoun:

Post #2 in this thread shows my RCS, which is the Sig Custom Shop version of the C3. Only difference is the melt job and the finish (C3 only available as a tu-tone). It shoots great.

    What's a melt job?

  6. Bryan,

Thanks for the offer. I know you're just dying to find excuses to get out of the house. I would almost bet I'm about extra-chubby x 1.5. Just PM me the size (too embarrassed to disclose publicly) - if it's doable we can meet-up. Otherwise will probably get the new CR Super Hi-Torque. Thanks.

    Adios,

    Pizza Bob

In that case, Bob, you must get out of the house more ...:icon_mrgreen:

  7. Looks good but I wouldn't have put a rail o a older Sig German gun. You could have just picked up a railed frame on the cheap. Where?

The more I shoot the older german sig's, the more I like them over the newer stuff. The German 228's trigger is the smoothest trigger I have ever shot.

The TIC rail is not the best looking gadget to add, it's something I wanted to try ... for fun.

  8. Hogue wrap-around grips, under-barrel rail (TICK) and a SIG light/laser combo (full on/off, blinding strobe, +/- laser). I like these combos, but the controls are tiny.

The rail is made up of some type of Nylon material and finish is good. Came with a replacement take-down lever. A small portion of SS rod sticks out on the right hand side and the rail side snaps around it. Now have to see how it holds up.

In the pic below, you see a small spacer screw between rail and the trigger guard. I don't know that the screw will not wiggle and loosen up. Will try locktite once I have tried it out.

  9. The browning BDA 380 is just a beautiful gun. I had liked one on GB, but the bidding up just went crazy ... finally it sold for $750!

Here's one new on GB for $699.

The Beretta 84/85 looks very similar to the Browning, except the open top barrel ... there appears to be some connection between Beretta/FNH and Browning?

  10. I have Bersa 380 and while I like the gun overall it failed 3 times and required warranty service for a very same reason - faulty disconnector spring.

I could understand if it happens once... but 3 times is too much for a gun you may use in self-defense.

So, do your research before you buy!

It's surprising you had that experience ...

I did more research and checked out reviews of the thunder plus and most of them are quite positive, in fact had a hard time looking for complaints. It's not an expensive gun, so will give it a go and report back in about a month ...

  11. Today, I went to Rahway firearms guild and looked at a few 1911's. In the used section they had a bunch, fondled a few. This place is not known for best prices, but they have lots to look at!

Para Ord, LDA's, as well as single and double stack (15rds!) $550 and up; LDA is pretty unique, worth looking into (can't find on their site)

Springfield hi-cap, double stack (had 10rds, but can take 15rd mags) $600, but trigger was just bad

Remington - looked plain, but the price was decent for a new gun (I think $600)

New Colt's & S&W's were the most expensive

    Well, I left w/ 100 target rds of 45acp for $45 ...

I have never owned a 1911 (shot a few) and might be my next.

Till then, please post pics of what you have. I will start will this ... nice gun for the money, except for the plastic trigger.

  12. Bersa 380 hi-cap (15rds). If it comes to it, might as well make small but many holes:icon_mrgreen:

My wife has one waiting at TJ's ... reverse dual tone. Looks like this, but with wrap-around rubber grips.

  13. No I don't mind. It was bs. The official reason given was "dangerous drug offense". The offense they were referring to was when I was 19 years old I was arrested for underage drinking and under 50g of marijuana (they found a roach in my ashtray). The charge was conditionally discharged. I was never in any sort of trouble after that. I unfortunately had to shell out the $ for an attorney and was then approved before we even had a hearing. So needless to say, between that and now the BA mess it's been a long and frustrating process.

In that case, the charge shouldn't be on your record, that's part of the plea bargain, er deal?
