  1. I would feel comfortable with either one. Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you long term history for the units I ran gas lines for. I do trust the electricians that I work with though, as they usually supply the unit.

I have noticed most customers with the smaller units(6kW, 9kW, 13kW) go for Generac, while the larger units(25kW, 45kW) are usually Kohler.

Last one I helped my electrician friend get in place: Kohler 20kW, 150 ft. from driveway, with no way to get a machine in to place unit on pad. Around 500 lbs.--- no picnic. Nice unit though.

  2. For a Nat. gas powered unit, I would recommend Generac or Kohler. These units usually come from the factory propane or natural, so I would research quite a bit about switching between the two.

If I were putting one in my home, I would size large enough to cover my basics(heat, water, food, light, etc.) but not much more. These units can get pretty expensive pretty quick. Personally, I would go for a manual transfer switch.

If you do go with a fixed unit, make sure you get permits from the town you live in. You can do the work yourself as long as it is a single family dwelling, and your primary residence.

  3. LugNutz, sorry to get off the subject.

    Djg,

You bought a new home, they issued a CO then they tried to make you responsible for open permits from the old owner? That sucks. I deal with a lot of building departments, some good and some bad. New one on me. Did you file a complaint with state DCA?

Yeah - well, he's buying in Howell - where the above situation happened to me, so I was just sharing my real life experience. Many towns only check for a fire extinguisher in the kitchen, smoke detectors and CO detectors during their CCO (certificate of continued occupancy) inspection.

    LugNuTz,

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if I could answer any questions in my area.

  4. Home inspections was a racket, but has got better. As others have mentioned, VERY important to have someone good. I had a "friend" that was an inspector in 2002 before I bought my home, that idiot missed some major structural issues. He has since left the business since they require some testing now.

Fast forward to now, I have worked with buyers and sellers in my area of expertise(boilers & plumbing), so I get to read a fair number of inspection reports. It seems they will always find something to justify the $800-1200 cost, but that only helps you as the buyer.

I am going to recommend a company I have worked with personally. I do not know their rates, but they are excellent(very detailed and thorough): Almost Home, Inc, 732-758-0993.

Checking on open permits was a good idea mentioned above, but the towns will not usually issue a C of O if there are open permits.

  5. Thanks for all the info everyone.

At this point, I am leaning towards the iPhone 4s. I was an apple hater, but reliabilty is key for my uses. The wife got me an iPod touch last April(OK), and I got her a iPad2 in May(impressive). They both still work.

    Will decide this week.

Do both types of phones sync with PC the same way? (transfer files etc.)

  6. Well after waiting a few years, I am finally going to make the move and get some new technology. This forum has been great for some useful info, even not gun related.

    So, Droid or iPhone?

Most needed features for me and my business: Good camera, ease of file transfer between phone and PC(pics, PDFs, contact lists), text, may add credit card reader for point of sale transactions.

I am on the Verizon network, and will most likely stay with them for some reason.

Would love to hear about your experiences, good or bad with either.

  7. I lost my pivot pin detent when I did a lower a couple months ago. I feel your pain. I have a complete pin/detent kit. If you are eager to finish assembly PM me-- I will give you my cell. You can pick up now and replace when you have a chance. I live near Keyport.

  8. If you are going to spend on a high quality barrel (Noveske), why not get the best trigger available? I put in an SSA in my new lower a couple of weeks ago. I have not taken it to the range yet because of the weather, but it feels awsome dry firing. Just so you know the SSA is about 4 1/2 lbs. The SSA-E is 3 1/2 lbs. Here's a link to some great info on Geissele triggers.

(Edit to add: post #11 in this thread)

Or just to make your decision tougher there is the SD series from Geissele

  9. If you don't mind waiting for the mail, IM me your address and I will mail you one today.

Thank You for the offer, I ended up ordering a pin & detent kit from Midway. Kit was $10, but I couldn't deal with the special handling charge for orders under $40, so I ordered a box of bullets. Than I went with 2 day shipping & ended up spending more than buying the $99 LPK locally :icon_rolleyes: . Got the kit and completed the lower on the 11th. Live and learn, it's all good.

  10. Anyone have an extra pivot pin detent?????

I was being so careful, front pivot pin install. Even had the mothe%$#@&^%g pivot pin detent tool.

Assembling your own lower really is pretty easy except for this. That tiny little $#@!$$ piece of brass could be anywhere.

Anyone know of a local source for AR parts?

    I think it's time for a refreshment :facepalm::facepalm:

  11. I had to deal with Old Bridge for Commercial Building Permits, although it has nothing to do with the police department, it was one of the worst nightmares of my entire life.

Not to derail the thread too much, but that building dept. is from a different planet. There have been enough complaints that the state is involved now, but more people need to make formal written complaints. That department cost me a lot of time & $.

  12. OK, not sure if I should put this in Nj Gun laws. Anyway, I just received a new upper. 16" BCM lightweight middy. It is not attached to anything or near a lower. It came with a A2 flash hider which I will replace with a BattleComp muzzle break(NJ legal).

I know a barrel has to be 16" here for a rifle, and I know a threaded barrel is an evil feature. But does a brake have to be pinned on a 16" barrel???

    Thank You

PS: anyone I haven't spoke with lately, hope your doing good, some personal BS lately

  13. Was that the bag with the smaller competition bag, 2 pistol sacks, and brass collector with screen on bottom?

If so, great bag, but put your name on it, or stickers or something. I love mine, but I have seen a bunch of them

  14. OK, I'm impressed.

Got in on the NJGF P-mag group buy

Ordered Monday 11/22 a little before noon

Box at my door before noon on Wedsesday 11/24

    Thanks Midwest PX
