  1. I'll go a little against the previous posts and say, it depends. Some garages will have extreme temperature and humidity fluctuation that a home's interior doesn't. Now if you only plan on storing polymer/parkerized/stainless firearms, then no big deal. But if some of your guns have fine wood stocks and gloss bluing, they may do better in a more temperature controlled environment.

Lunch by Maine Brewing Company.  It’s an IPA. Solid brewery, but tough to find their beers in NJ.

Probably the best IPA out there right now IMO. Wish it were easier to find, I've only had it from tap.

Evil genius, Han shot first for me today.

Doing some "Imma head out" right now. Really wish they would bring back "Flyin Hawaiian". Punch flavored IPA sounds nasty, but its really an incredible summer beer.

  3. I consider Mas Ayoob an authority on the subject, and its definitely worthwhile to watch his videos or read his books on the subject.

For example, in his 20 year-old video, he explains that a woman running down the street screaming rape and being chased by a guy could very well be a hooker trying to escape from an undercover cop. Would not be a good idea to draw down and shoot.

Or the guy knocking at your door at 3am could be an officer trying to inform you of an emergency/accident, etc..

Unfortunately, lot of gun enthusiasts... would say i can hit targets jumping on one foot... and I don't want anyone having a gun who can't fire as good as me... we may as well go back to denying everyone constitutional right to own & bear arms

I think the overwhelming consensus on this board is that there should not be any qualification requirement. You will also not find many that think practice and training, at least to the level of most of the qualifications courses, is a bad idea.

With that said, I can't remember the last time I went to the range and didn't hear folks talk about how badly most LEOs shoot. Ironic.

  5. If I am understanding the requirements correctly, it sounds like you're looking for something to bring to the range and shoot little tiny groups on paper.

I'll second the Model 41 as arguably one of the most accurate handguns currently made.

For something in 9mm, take a look at a Sig P210. I don't have one, but they do have a cult-like following for accuracy and build quality.

Of course, those tiny groups would depend on your own skill in shooting iron sighted handguns. If end result is the only thing that matters, then just plop a red-dot on just about any single-action gun and you should be golden.

  6. I've always been taught that a holstered gun is a safe gun. But I do agree with you in that drawing/holstering is likely when an issue with AIWB  can happen. Carrying with an empty chamber, if it makes you feel better, is fine as long as you realize its downside and practice accordingly.

There are many other options that you should also be able to utilize. Learning all of the features of the gun you plan on using, and exactly how they work (transfer bar, manual safety, drop safety, trigger safety, etc.) goes a long way. You could then choose a firearm or feature that makes you most comfortable to carry. Some options include a manual safety, or an exposed hammer D/A gun, or add a striker control to your Glock, etc..

  7. They used to have several locations, in both NJ and CT if I remember correctly, but now one one. They are partnered with Hudson Farms, which is the gun club mentioned above. Also, as mentioned, both the club and gun shop are very expensive.

I visited their Bernardsville store several times before they closed. In addition to manufacturing their own line of guns, they also had a very impressive lineup of other brands (both new and used). Many of which ran into 6 figure territory.

Their gunsmiths are considered to be some of the very best, at least in NJ.

Shipping to a NJ FFL has never been an issue for me.

Also, If heading out west, keep in mind that a very large caliber is seldom needed in most states. I would actually forego anything larger than 10mm/357mag except where you might come across brown/grizzlies. You'll see that their current ranges are quite small pockets in Montana, Washington, Idaho and Wyoming.

Of course, the Canadian Rockies and Alaska are a different story.

The real reason for the bill is to drag things out another three years so when Murphy leaves the governors office and campaigns for a NJ State senate seat, he can brag in his campaign to the idiots : "Governor Murphy of NJ - enacted strict gun laws that kept guns off the street and made our citizens safe"

I actually think he's looking at a presidential run in 2024. Reinstating the bear hunt, growing-out his hair, and slowly fixing his teeth leads me to believe that he's thinking about a national campaign (as funny as that all sounds).

It’s not the police making these laws. And it was only the state troopers unions that testified to the bill. They did it to get exceptions for their members as was their job. Note the urban officers did not testify .

These lawmakers who made this law don’t give a —— about what cops think. Especially retired cops ad proven by the the 3rd revision to the bill and the one lawmaker harping on the fact that retirees don’t have a legal obligation to the general public. They only put it in for the political optics . Did you see how the bill’s sponsor was arguing over his holster requirement for a retention strap with the police who did testify ? He does not care about the police beyond a political expediency.

Not a knock on active officers. The union should not be allowed, or should have at least been challenged in their endeavor to get RPOs exempt from the proposed bill. They are essentially creating 2 classes of citizens. A savvy politician would have argued that retired State Police are exempt, but other agencies would be subject to sensitive places.

Holster wear is a thing. Eventually, all holsters, no matter what they are made of, will damage your finish on pretty much whatever you carry.

Absolutely right. The softest brushed leather will eventually acquire some grit and produce a "shine" on your gun.  Even rubbing on your skin and clothes will polish the sharp edges on you sights/slide/etc.. Some finishes are more resistant than other, but ultimately, they will all wear down with frequent use.
With that said, might as well get the one that performs best and forget about the finish wear.
