  1. No problem Fox, To bring you up to date. We have started the Ocean County Gun Club of NJ. We are planning our first meeting for Monday, July 12th here in Manahawkin, NJ. There are a bunch of guys who are interested in sharing ideas, and also trying to do something about changing the tide here in NJ. I am sure they will be interested in your experiences. We can talk in PM or by email when you have time. I have established a Club email address as well. It is [email protected]. Our FaceBook Page is Ocean County Gun Club, and Tim and Maksim of NJGF have given us a "sticky" under "Shooting in NJ" in the Events and Meetings section. Most of the clubs initial communications about meetings will take place there. I hope you had a good trip.
  2. I totally understand. Let me know when you can. It is kind of early to make the announcement anyway, but I wanted to give people plenty of time to respond. If for some reason, a lot of people can't make it, I can try for another day. But so far, this seems to work.
  3. I would like to announce the inaugural meeting of the Ocean County Gun Club to be held at my home in Manahawkin, NJ on Monday evening July 12th at 7PM. This is going to be an informal meeting to discuss the purpose of the club and to gather ideas from the members. Anyone interested is invited to attend, whether or not they are a member of the NJGF. So, if you know of someone who might be interested, please pass the information on. I intend to have some light refreshments at the meeting, so I would appreciate it if you let me know if you are going to make it, so I can be sure to have enough on hand. MAKSIM was kind enough to grant us a "sticky" here in "Events and Meetings", so this is the most convenient place to respond. You may also respond to [email protected], or at the FaceBook Group page "Ocean County Gun Club". Although we do have some serious gun rights issues to address here in NJ, there is no reason why this can't be a fun club. So, bring your ideas for some fun activities you think the other members and their families might enjoy, and perhaps we can plan some future events as well. My address is: Frank Fiamingo 36 Selma Drive Manahawkin, NJ 08050 DIRECTIONS: Either GSP North or South to Exit 63 - stay right onto Route 72 East *OR* Route 9 North or South to Route 72 East Proceed toward Long Beach Island pass through 5 lights (from GSP) or 3 lights (from Rt 9) on Route 72. Shortly after you pass the last light at MARSHA DRIVE, you will see the sign for MORRIS BLVD/BEACH HAVEN WEST. Make a right onto MORRIS BLVD and *IMMEDIATELY* stop at the STOP SIGN on your left. Proceed STRAIGHT ACROSS MORRIS BLVD onto STEVEN DRIVE (Do NOT make a left at the stop sign, that will put you BACK on Route 72.) Follow STEVEN DRIVE around to the left. It runs parallel to Route 72. Take it all the way to the end, and it will feed you onto SELMA DRIVE. My house is the LAST house on the left at the end of the cul du sac. It is a green house up on pilings. The entrance is on the left of the small enclosure under the house. I'll keep the light on. I look forward to meeting all of you. I ntend to send this to everyone who expressed an interest in the club, in a PM, in case they don't monitor this thread. I apologize in advance if you are getting multiple copies. Thank you. PS If you prefer to reply by phone,or if you need better directions, please feel free to call my cell at (732) 233-6506.
  4. The following is a proposed mission statement for our group. Please feel free to comment, and submit your own. The idea of a mission statement is to state in as few sentences as possible, what the group is all about: "Our mission is to promote a better understanding of the importance of gun rights among our legislature and the citizens of New Jersey. To this end, we will work to help introduce, support, and pass gun rights legislation in the state of New Jersey."
  5. OK Guys, just a quick update. I am still waiting to hear back from Senator Conners regarding Senate Bill No. 68. I decided to concentrate on THIS bill rather than OGAM, because I think we would agree, being able to carry is more of a prize for now. I expect a positive response to setting up a meeting from Sen. Connors. If not, I will contact one of the original sponsors. I just figure I will get a better response from my own Representative. I could be wrong. At any rate, we now have an additiona place to meet once we have an agenda in place. In addition to my home in Manahawkin, Tony business and home in Bayville, Milton from BA has generously offer us a room to use at his facility. So, at least the infrastructure is in place. These are the names of the people who have expressed interest in getting together. Please let me know if anyone else would like to get involved. Obviously, the more people we can muster, the better our chances of being heard: bry@n gonra wraenking mikelets456 bullpin perhaps Z71 and OF COURSE Tony I am pretty much available all hours of the night and day, but I assume evening will work best for most of us. Please give me you opinions on that. Days and times would be good. We can zero in later. I will also flag everyone in a PM in case you are not following this thread. Thanks for your interest so far. Let me know if you have a significantly different agenda in mind, or something additional. My thinking is we should try to focus on one thing at a time, but that is just my opinion. I look forward to hearing from you all.
  6. You may have a point Smity. We should look into this further. I am not familiar with the organization. I'll look it up later.
  7. You may be right, I may be crazy, but it just may be a LUNATIC they're looking for. ;-p Here's the thing. There *ARE* other Senators who can be influenced to co-sponsor this bill. That is especially true down here in the REPUBLIC of Southern Jersey. I'll give up after they pry my keyboard, pen and cell phone out of my cold dead hands. OK, prolly just BEFORE then. :-) What the hell good is a dead instigator? Seriously though, I am going to try. Hopefully, I can get a few other epople together who will stand with me.
  8. We do not necessarily need to restrict our correspondence to our own representatives. call, email, and/or write to the sponsors of the bill - Michael J Doherty, and Kevin J. O'Toole. Let them know that we support their efforts. That we stand with them, and are willing to keep up the pressure on our own reps. Also contact Gov. Christie, and let him know that we want the bill to be considered, and to pass. There are plenty of things we can do, especially if we work together.
  9. Mikey - workin on it. Want to help? I have requested a meeting with my State Senator. You are welcome to come with.
  10. OH YEAH - and it states "If the application is not approved by the chief police officer or the superintendent within *60* days of filing, it shall be deemed to have been *APPROVED*..." GUYS, THIS IS A GOOD BILL!!!!!!!
  11. FFDP82, Senate Bill No. 69 addresses these very issues. I refer you to my original post with the link for reference. For instance, The permits will be handled at the municipal level, and do NOT cover just a specific gun or serial number, permits to carry would be good for *FIVE* years instead of only TWO. There are some *VERY* good provisions in this bill. It completely takes out the provision that it is necessary to show that the permit is "in the public interest". It takes out the "Justifiable need" clause. Please take a look at it. They have bracketed the provisions which should be deleted, and underlined their additions to make it easier to see the salient points.
  12. Funny Mike :-) Yeah, I understand. But it is still there and might be able to be revived. There is no time like the present to test the waters. Peoples ideas about government and freedom ARE undergoing a sea change IMHO. They need leaders. People who will help them focus their power. I am MUCH too old to be an idealist, but (on the other hand) I have been around long enough to notice when I see things changing.
  13. For those of you who might not be familiar with the Senate Bill No. 69 currently before the state legislature, I urge you to visit the following link: http://www.njleg.state.nj.us/2010/Bills/S0500/69_I1.HTM NJ State Senators Michael J. Doherty (Dist 23) and Kevin J. O'Toole have sponsored a bill to grant the right to carry a concealed weapon to all law abiding NJ citizens. I have written my state Senator in support of this bill. I urge you to do the same. We ahve been looking for something positive to do. Well, this could be it. Following is the text of my letter: Dear Senator Connors, I would like the opportunity to meet with you to discuss your position on Senate Bill No. 69. I feel very strongly that every mentally capable, law abiding, person should have the right to protect their person, family and property. As a result, I strongly support bill S69 currently before the NJ legislature. This bill would make it possible for the upstanding people of New Jersey to possess, and carry upon their person, a concealed handgun for their protection. This will inevitably result in the reduction of violent crimes against person and property in the great state of New Jersey. I would like to discuss with you the ways that I, and those who like me, believe in the responsibilities that go along with freedom, can assist you in the passage of this bill. I look forward to your prompt response in this matter. Sincerely, Frank Fiamingo
  14. I totally feel your pain, Dan. I am not discouraged. I just spent the weekend with my Grandkids, so I am kinda committed to not only work for change in my state, but for the country as a whole. Now *HOW* to do that is still a bit of a mystery to me. But who knows, I have some pretty good practical ideas. Maybe I can start a ball rolling. Maybe not, but I always did like a challenge. ;-p
  15. I understand how you feel, Dan. My Grandkids are here, so I have an investment in NJ that trumps the cost of living here. I prefer to look at the 2.5% as a *CAP* rather than a mandate. When you cut an artery, you apply pressure to stop as much of the blood flow as possible, before you apply the tourniquet. I believe that is what Gov. Christie is trying to do. I realize that he is not the second coming, but he is *SO* much better than what we have had, that I am willing to work with him to make NJ a better place to live. In the end, a state is made up of people. People will always do what is in their best interest, ONCE they understand WHAT that is. I feel like it is my job to help explain it in a way that the majority of good people will understand. Hey, it might very well be a waste of time. But it is worth a good deal of effort, to ME.
  16. Yes, that is correct. I will have something together early next week. We'll talk then. Everything starts with a small step. If we can just let them know we are watching, we will have accomplished something. We can build from there.
  17. Just thought you guys might want to see this: http://gunowners.org/a061810.htm Congress *CAN* be influences if enough people speak out.
