  1. Christie's term ends exactly 1 year from now. Hudson's reciprocity bill has already been introduced and given the R majority in both houses, and the likelihood that at least a few dems from red states will vote in favor, it has a decent chance of passing (really depends on whether the senate could override a filibuster). If it does pass, Trump will clearly sign it, and while I'm not sure of the timing, I'm guessing it would be fairly soon -- let's say by June. I could see Christie directing his AG NOT to challenge the bill in court. If for no other reason than to annoy Loretta Weinberg and the other rabidly anti-gun ownership NJ Democrats in the legislature. Assuming that is correct, the earliest NJ would mount a challenge would be exactly one year from now when a new (likely Democrat) governor takes office, By that time, after 6 months or so of legal carry in NJ, I wonder if getting an injunction or even mounting a challenge at all would be feasible. Many "ifs" in the equation, but I'm starting to get cautiously optimistic despite myself.
  2. Thanks Nick. If I'm up at Cherry Ridge in the near future I will stop by. Appreciate it.
  3. I will check the bushing more closely. It is a "scandium" frame, which I believe means it is mostly aluminum. The orginal bushings were really hard to remove -- they may have been staked or locktited -- and I wouldn't be surprised if I damaged the threads. Only one bushing is a problem and the grip panel is still on pretty solid. I may try the loctite anyway. I very rarely shoot this gun in any event although it is a pleasure to shoot. I'm sorry I ever messed with it.
  4. Thanks. I see Brownells sells the tap but I don't know if this is something I want to do myself because if it is further f'd up I'm guessing that might just leave me with a ruined frame. Is it just a matter of inserting the tap and cutting the new threads? Seems like an easy fix for someone who knows what they are doing. Any sense of how much a gunsmith would charge (and does anyone know of a reliable one in North Jersey?)
  5. I have a S&W 1911 with a scandium frame, replaced the stock grips with VZ slim grips a number of years ago. Haven't shot it much and now realize that one of the grip screws won't tighten. Took the grip off and the bushing came with it, and on inspection it is clear that the threads for the bushing on the frame are stripped and the busing rotates freely in the frame. I recall that the original bushings were a huge pain to remove and I must have stripped the threads in that hole. I know there are oversized bushings available that need to be "tapped" (not sure what that means -- tapped in rather than screwed in?) Alternatively I suppose I could try blue loctite but not sure if that would hold it. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
  6. I truly hope you are right. But remember Judge Walls, the District Court Judge in the Drake case? Remember the two 3rd circuit judges who wrote that truly horrible, nonsensical decision affirming Judge Walls? Remember all the people on this forum who after Heller and McDonald kept repeating "just wait until the Supremes slap NJ down"? How did that all work out? Yeah, things are going to get much better in the Federal judiciary as Trump appoints judges. And yeah, we are all in a much, much better position than we were before the election. And I am sure that things will improve overall on the 2A front. But that will take time, and in the meantime there are plenty of judges -- including Republican appointees -- who seem all too eager to throw reason and precedent into the garbage when it comes to 2A issues. So while you are correct that there is no evidence whatsoever that lawful concealed carry endangers anyone (and plenty of evidence to the contrary), the fact that NJ prevailed on its public safety argument in upholding "justifiable need" in Drake just shows you how judges often ignore evidence and facts, buy into hysteria and illogic on gun issues. I am pretty confident that there will be a state challenge of this law and that the possibility of some sort of injunction is not remote. I really, really hope I am wrong. But I just think its a wee bit too early to start planning on what holster to use to carry in NJ.
  7. Zeke -- why are rules different than laws when it comes to state challenge? Are you saying that states can only bring a constitutional challenge to federal rules but not laws? If I missed something please let me know, but I don't think that is correct.
  8. Not trying to be a stick in the mud, but no, this bill won't necessarily solve all this. There is the 10th amendment/state's right constitutional issue that certain states will most likely litigate -- see my post above. The only way to definitively put the outside the home issue to rest in NJ is 1) a sea change in voting demographics such that Republicans take control of the NJ legislature (not gonna happen) or 2) a Supreme Ct case affirming right to carry outside the home. But yes, we are moving in the right direction and very lucky that Trump won, at least on the gun issue.
  9. Its not nullification. A state can't unilaterally ignore or nullify a federal statute but it clearly has the ability to challenge a law as being unconstitutional in federal court. You know -- the whole balance of powers thing. The grounds would be the 10th amendment based on state's rights and state soveriegnty -- NJ would argue that the federal government can't force a state to accept another state's permits, at least for its own citizens (NJ would probably lose a challenge to the reciprocity law to the extent it relates to citizens of other states). NJ would file a lawsuit in federal court arguing that the reciprocity law is unconstitutional. It would, at the same time, seek an injunction preventing implementation of the law pending final decision on its lawsuit (which would take years to go from district court, to ct of appeals and finally (and quite likely) to the supreme court. That injunction would almost certainly be granted, at least by one of the many liberal federal ct judges in nj and in the 3d circuit. To get an injunction NJ would need to show (1) ireparable harm if the injunction isn't granted (ie -- "help us, people will be killing each other in the streets if we don't get the injunction), which they will likely succeed on and (2) likelihood of success on the merits (ie, must show the 10th amendment argument at least has a chance of succeeding. That is the way the legal game will play out, end result being the law won't be operable, at least not in NJ and possibly in any state if the injunction extends that far. For example, a federal judge in Texas issued an injunction against implementation of Obama's overtime rule. This would be the same process, different issue. http://www.forbes.com/sites/danielfisher/2016/11/22/texas-judge-issues-nationwide-injunction-against-obamas-overtime-rule/#2e2b629a747f
  10. According to the correspondence from Hudson posted above, under his bill residents of NJ COULD carry in NJ with a non-resident permit from another state. My guess is the state of NJ runs to Federal District ct seeking an injunction preventing implementation of the law and they probably would get it.
  11. Wow, just wow. Did not expect this but is is great news. I eagerly await Senator Weinberg's reaction.
  12. Excellent DT. Thanks. I should be receiving it today. It is the last piece on my upgrades to my stock M&P 15.
  13. It was my screw up. I think I had the levers installed the wrong way. Works great. I agree that it is way overpriced. But as a lefty i find it very helpful. I have the long lever installed on the right side and short on the left. I put it on fire with my the thumb on my left hand/shooting hand and make safe with my index finger.
  14. Apologies in advance, because I know this has been covered elsewhere, at least in part. I have an M&P 15 sport, NJ compliant model (obviously). I have been having a heck of a time finding a sling attachment mount that will work without removing the stock. Tried the tango down pr4 and it simply didn't fit. Then ordered a tactical link two piece but just found out that I still need to remove the stock. So that got me thinking, why don't I just remove the stock and replace it with a fixed model while I am at it. Thinking about the ACE skeleton stock (I think it has QD points built in). My questions are: 1) removing the butstock -- is it simply a matter of drilling out the pin and pulling it off? Any other issues? 2) Any recommendations on a fixed stock other than the ACE? 3) Anyone familiar with the M&P 15 sport (original model) with any insight about milspec/non-milspec issues or other fit issues? And yes, I am fully aware of NJ law and have no intention of "unpinning" the stock on my rifle to make it adjustable.
  15. I just ordered a BAD Ass to install in my M&P-15 Sport. Unfortunately it appears to be 1/8 of an inch or so too wide -- when installed the selector on one side doesnt fit flush and there is some play and it doesn't have a "click" when engaging. The lower is supposedly milspec. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? I contacted their customer service and they asked for pictures, but I thought I would check here.
  16. I bought a Marathon watch years ago, it said "US Government" on it and was supposedly standard issue to the US armed forces at some point. It broke pretty quickly. I've been wearing a $60 Gshock for over 5 years, have gone diving with it and subjected it to much abuse, and have not had a single problem. So yeah, go with a Gshock -- pick anyone that strikes your fancy.
  17. Scott Bach's legal analysis is that a "two way" reciprocity bill that is applicable to residents in their home state would almost certainly not withstand constitutional challenge, but a "one way" bill (the type that is now considered) in which a state is only forced to accept permits held by citizens of other states almost certainly would. If that is true, there is probably little or no chance that any congressman or senator will submit a two way bill that would help us and the NRA would not support it.
  18. For anyone who is still not convinced that none of the reciprocity laws will allow NJ residents to carry in NJ with an out of state permit, listen to Scott Bach's interview on the most recent GFH radio podcast, He breaks it down quite clearly. Definitively, these bills will not help us directly. Only litigation will do that, and that will take a very long time. It will be fun to watch the fallout however.

    AR Slings

All I know is that the one point worked pretty well for the carbine class I just took, other than the fact that the way it was mounted (wrapped around the buffer tube) interfered with the charging handle and was a royal PITA. Moving backwards, forwards and side to side after transitioning to pistol was no problem -- I didn't find that the carbine hanging from the sling got in the way. Then again, I shoot pistol righty and rifle lefty, so maybe that made a difference -- makes the sidearm much more accessible although it does lead to other problems. Anyway, I'm going to look into both before deciding. Thanks for all of the input.

All that input is very helpful. I get why the 2 point has some advantages over a 1 point. My reality is that I bring my AR to the range 4 times a year more or less and take a carbine class every couple of years. For those limited purposes, and to have a workable and simple sling mount in a SHTF situation (I don't rely on an AR for home defense) I'm thinking the single point may be better for me. From what I've seen of the 2 point it will require some familiarization and practice which I realistically may not give it. I'm not going to be competing or going on any marches with my rifle so the added stability isn't really that much of a factor for me.

Thanks for that TD recommendation, exactly what I was looking for. I will look into the 2 point option and consider before buying. I would then need to figure out which mount I need for my Magpul MOE forend.

    AR Slings

I have an MP-15 Sport. I believe the castle nut is staked so would not be easy to remove at all. There is no mounting point now. I have a 1 point sling that essentially wraps around the buffer tube without a mounting point. Sucks.

Does anyone know of a 1 point sling attachment that can be put on the buffer tube without removing the stock, which as we all know must be pinned here in beautiful NJ. I am using a jury-rigged sling that essentially wraps around the buffer tube rather than clipping on but it really interferes with the charging handle. I don't want to have to go through the hassle of going to a gunsmith to take off the pinned stock to mount a sling adapter. Alternatively, I was thinking of using a 2 point sling instead, one end attached through the slot in the stock the other mounted on a Magpul attachment to the MOE fore-end. Any suggestions would be much appreciated (including opinions of 1 vs 2 point sling).
  24. Absolutely. National CCW reciprocity will be a great development notwithstanding the fact that it won't enable NJ residents to carry in their own state. I look forward to seeing Loretta Weinberg, Chuck Schumer, Menendez, etc freak out. And it may indeed help us in the long run. People should just be realistic in their expectations and recognize that the overwhelming likelihood is that nothing will bring carry to NJ other than a Supreme Court win, which is going to take a long time.
