  1. Back when there were all those impeach Obama type petitions on the whitehouse web site the thought crossed my mind that if the administration wanted to get back at the signers they could have the IRS screw with people. Guess I was not crazy for thinking that....

You will love the D800. Just a couple of things you need to consider, with 36mp good hand holding technique is critical. I find it a good thing to shoot at a shutter speed that is 50% faster than what I would have shot with my D700. Also for sharpest images avoid diffraction by trying to keep the f/stop no smaller than f/8 when possible. Also quality glass is a must, don't even think of using kit lenses. Enjoy and don't forget to share images.

Thanks for the pointers. I'm comming out of my 10 year old D100.. Going from 6mp to 36mp is a large leap. Not used to dealing with +50mb files...

Picked up some nice glass for it too. Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8D and a nice prime 85mm f/1.4D. Also got do it all 28-300mm. Unfortunately all my other lenses were DX so dropped a bit of cash but you only live once.

  3. No Canon, I only use Nikon!!! I took these at Burnham park in Morristown. I guess it was a high capacity Camera, the Hawk was with a Nikon D800e which is 36 mega pixels and was using a 200mm lens with a 2x teleconverter.

Nice. Just picked up a D800 this week. Looking forward to the nice weather this weekend to get out and put it to good use.

And herein is the problem.... you are supposed to do it through your PD, and they are to mail in your exemption, as they have to list the permit numbers on the exemption paperwork, iirc.

My town is very diligent about it, and I suspect so are most others. 5 to 6 weeks for State Police to approve the exemption.

As far as criteria... it is a rubber stamp approval.

You can check off one of 3 boxes, 1. Inheritance, 2. Collector 3. Competitor. You can write a brief blurb as to why you need it, and if you want, attach proof.

I never attached anything, and checked off as "Collector", never any issues.

Why a problem? SP sent it back approved in two weeks...

  5. There are two forms.

One is ST15, the other ST16.

ST15 is the total form with ALL of the guns from EVERYWHERE that you are trying to purchase under exemption. You fill all that in.

Then, you have ST16, which is for the individual seller, be it FFL or individual, where they list the guns you are buying from them, and they sign.

Turn all of those in at the PD and all get submitted to State Police. Then, you can pick up the guns, once forms come back, from those various sellers.

Same as you said, if two FFL's, each require a Nics. If FFL and Private.... then FFL nics, and Private as it is. The Seller retains a copy of the ST16 that was approved for them.

I have typically mailed the forms into the SP myself thereby avoiding a potential 6 week delay in waiting for my town to do it. I just did this in April and the SP mailed the approved form back to my PD in two weeks. Now if only my permits would come in......Nothing like waiting to pick up $7g's worth of guns and waiting now close to three months for permits....At least I'll be able to get them all at once after the two week NICS check....

  6. I am quite surprised that this is the first thread on this. We have been discussing this all day yesterday...

The worst was one of the women who said that it will allow people to carry a gun in their car when they're going to buy a gun in Pennsylvania... as if we can't do that already.

I laughed at that one too. The mentality is really amazing. If you have a gun in your posession you could go postal at any moment....

  7. That is the SBI-212A - the non-criminal background check. That is done by the NJSP - SBI out of West Trenton. However, my PD told me up front that the SBI was slow in returning the 212A - but that meant the difference between the normal 4 week turnaround and the 5 weeks that it took this time. Depends when your PD sent it in - I think they're shining you on, and the NJSP are handy scapegoats.

    Adios,

    Pizza Bob

I am thinking Scotch Plains probably sent my form in three weeks after I submitted my application so hopefully not much longer. Funny thing is I submitted the multi-gun exemption form to the SP 2 weeks ago and when I spoke to the town today they indicated they already received it back from the SP approved. Atleast I'll get to pick up my three pistols sitting at the FFL at once when the 212A comes back.

  8. Maybe I'm reading it wrong...

But given the current state of disarray that our current Nics system is in... Does anyone think that a new requirement to run a mental heath check at the time of an instant check will infinitely backup the system?

Think he is referring to something that is already in the works i.e. making the mental health records electronic rather than index cards. I would hope that would speed up the process esspecially pistol permits.
