  1. I guess I am going to have to eat this case and save it for Cherry Ridge. I dont think the next orientation is for another month so I wont be able to shoot there any sooner since I dont personally know any current members. Just annoyed I didnt pay better attention to the fact it was aluminum. Bullethole is the only range that I am semi familar with and that is close to me in North NJ. Looks like I will be buying more ammo!
  2. Didnt see anything on the Cherry Ridge site that said it was specifically banned and the Bullethole website doesnt mention it specifically either. However, I read differing info on here that BH allows it and that it doesnt.
  3. Anyone aware if or have any issues with the aluminum being banned from the range? I assume the issue is it being a pita to separate aluminum from the brass spent casings? I picked up a CASE of CCI Blazer .40s&w 165gr tmj and I am concerned I may not be able to fire it at my first ever range visit in NJ. I am considering going to Bullethole or becoming a member at Cherry Ridge.
  4. Yeah ammo prices will likely be a factor with my next purchase. I intend to get the .22 conversion for the Sig and potentially the HK in 9 so I will have three different calibers covered. However I am wondering if that is more of a pita than it sounds. Speaking of ammo according to the tracking info for my case of 40s&w UPS is having trouble finding my house due to "multiple errors" on the shipping label.
  5. Thanks. What caliber USP did you get? I am debating between 9mm and .40 in either the standard or tactical. I have fired the USP in both calibers and enjoyed them equally.
  6. Actually the first thing I did after I received my permits was put in a request on this site. I only received one response but it was for one of my back up choices. However, their response was very quick and professional so I may follow up with them again when I am able to purchase my next handgun. Thanks for the heads up on the ammo link.
  7. I am just looking at it as it could have been worse. I would have liked to purchase it locally since I like to support local businesses as much as I can but that wasn't in the cards this time around. Perhaps I'll have better luck with a local dealer with my next purchase. If I had a sight tool I could have gotten the replacement sight sent to me and replaced it myself in short order but those type of tools are surprisingly expensive. Given what I have spent on the handgun, ammo and more important accessories over the past few weeks I wasn't about to spend more money on a tool I'd use infrequently. Hopefully I will be surprised with a quick turnaround and I can get to the range soon. I dropped the slide at UPS today so the countdown begins.
  8. I just purchased a P226 TacOps .40S&W and was considering the .22LR conversion kit but have read some very hit and miss reviews complaining about slide fitment and magazine wear issues etc. Anyone here have any feedback?
  9. So after applying for and receiving my ID and permits I went about searching for my first handgun. As I posted in another thread I had some poor experiences with local shops so I switched my focus to online dealers. I eventually purchased a Sig Sauer P226 TacOps in .40 S&W from Bud's. I have fired a large range of handguns and felt most comfortable with the 226 though I may purchase an H&K USP with my second permit when the time comes. Regardless, the delivery to the FFL (Lincoln Park True Value) was quick and easy. Unfortunately, the handgun case was a little mangled but I overlooked it because the contents of the case was all present and looked to be in good working order. I was way too excited to refuse the transfer based on a banged up case I would never use since the handgun would be stored in my safe. So I proceed with the transfer but once I got home I realize that one of the rear siglite night sight dots is not glowing at all. I go into my bedroom closet and turn off the lights a indeed confirm it is completely dead. I end up having to call Sig CS the next morning and arrange to have it returned for warranty repair. So my excitement has been dampened by the fact I had to send a piece of my new handgun back for repair before I even had a chance to fire it. Add to that I attempted to place three separate bulk ammo orders only to be emailed that what was labeled in stock was actually out of stock. Eventually I was able to find some ammo that was actually available and now I am just waiting for it to arrive. I also am awaiting a bunch of range accessories which makes the time I have to wait for the slide to come back a little more tolerable. I can see being without my gun for a few weeks factoring shipping to and from Exeter along with time for the actual repair. I suppose the lesson here is to try and stifle my excitement and really go over the handgun with a super critical eye the next time I make a purchase.
  10. I recently received my FID and permits and have found the purchase process very disappointing and frustrating. I have been shopping around for a particular model handgun and have never been subjected to so many unpleasant and/or unprofessional people in such a short time in my life. I have called numerous stores inquiring about availability etc only to have to endure rude behavior and less than helpful responses. I have stopped into several stores only to be ignored or condescended and in the one shop that I was able to speak to someone who wasn't rude they failed to call me back after I followed up more than once on a potential special order. I even put in a price request here only to be contacted by one merchant (thank you to them for responding quickly unfortunately it was a response on something that wasn't my first choice.) I am not sure how this industry survives in NJ if this is any indication how new customers are treated. A person shouldn't have such horrible experiences that they dread walking into a brick and mortar shop because they don't want to deal with people's terrible attitudes. It appears I may have to shift my focus to online sources.
  11. UPDATE: I was able to get a hold of the Detective in charge of applications processing via phone on a Wednesday since that is when the PD processes applications. The Detective was very friendly and told me to stop by that day to begin the process. Once the paperwork was submitted the Detective was diligent about sending out the questionnaires to my references in a prompt manner. I received my FID and Permits after 29 days. I really appreciated the Detective's professionalism throughout and he even apologized that the process took so long. It's a shame others can't have the same positive experience.
  12. 1. Application type (FID/permit w/ existing FID). FID and Two Permits 2. Police Department where you applied. Boonton 3. Name of the person you dealt with at the PD. Detective Leroy Harris 4. Time taken to issue FID and/or permit. 29 days 5. Documents required by the PD (aside from the standard application and the mental health release form). No additional documents. 6. Notes - Boonton PD processes applications on Wednesdays. The Detective was very professional and was diligent about sending out the questionnaires to my references in a prompt manner. I really appreciated his professionalism throughout. I strongly suggest that you follow up with your references and hand deliver them to the PD if you have the opportunity to avoid any unnecessary delays. Overall I am very pleased with my experience considering some of the delays others have encountered throughout the state.
  13. Thanks, I have my forms all filled out and ready to go. Just need to schedule fingerprinting. Their website instructs people to call to begin the application process yet no one is there to answer the calls and no information about when people are available. I guess I'll have to go down there and hope for the best. Thanks again.
  14. Anyone have experience applying for an FID and pistol permit(s) in the Town of Boonton? I have tried several times to call the Detectives to get the process started. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to get anyone on the phone and voicemails have not been returned. Thanks.
