  1. henry - the gun was jamming even on the first time shooting after purchasing the rifle new. I have not done a thorough cleaning as I have not purchased a cleaning kit as of yet, could you point me in the direction of what cleaning kit i would need? I am not entirely sure. you could use the website, Amazon dot com to post a link if at all possible? I do not remember what ammo i used when using HV ammo, but when using regular 22lr bullets, the package says CCL minimag 22LR (22 long rifle copper plated round nose 40 grain) DirtyDigz - I will try the federal 525 packs upon my next venture to the range. When you say you have much better results using it, do you still find jams? Maybe it is just the gun itself somehow?
  2. I own a gsg kalashnikov 22lr hv ak47 rifle (as is marked in the manual), and I have shot it at the range on 2 separate occasions, using both the 22lr hv ammunition the first time, and regular 22lr ammunition the second time. On both times, the gun jammed, in both my and my friend's opinion who was with me, very frequently. However, I think that after a certain amount of clips fired through it, the jamming seems to either stop or lessen (or that may just be my hopeful rational that something is not really wrong with the gun itself). Now, the rifle has a magazine that is blocked at 10 rounds... and after thinking about it, i am going to speculate that on average, the rifle jams about 15 times in the span of 30 or so rounds. I did find that i was, at first, not cocking the ejection port quick enough which allowed more than one bullet in the chamber at a time, however I corrected my method quickly for this. However, when the gun DOES jam, it either A) has a shell casing stuck in the ejection port, or B) has a bullet in the chamber either off-kilter or there are two in the chamber. This is all I notice to seem to cause jams, although I do not know too much about firearms. Other times, the gun will seem to jam, then after taking out the magazine and inspecting the chamber, I do not see anything in it - I then proceed to close the ejection port, re-attach the magazine, cock it, put safety off and the gun fires again. It is strange. I was hoping anyone here may have an idea as to what the problem is? Another thing I feel I should mention is I did no after market modifications. It has the exact same parts and magazine as came with the gun when I bought it at Cheyenne in new condition. Any ideas? Please assist me if you have any ideas! I looked around on the web and found that most people say the gun jams very little. I hope I do not have to shell out a lot of money to find a slight malfunction.. Thank you for your assistance!

    NJ legal?

so i recently was at a gun range in PA and someone there had an ak47 pistol... i have never seen one before so i asked about it, and the individual let me shoot a few rounds - let me say it is difficult to stay accurate but it got me thinking - i am a fan of ak style guns and i already have a rifle, is there any way to get somewhat of an ak style pistol, firing 7.62x39 rounds if possible? or would this be considered an assault weapon? to help clarify what i am talking about, the gun this man had at a gun range was an ak47 draco pistol in the traditional 7.62x39 round. would these or something of similar style be allowed in nj? and would a dealer charge me an arm and a leg to actually get it here? thanks for any advice!
  4. oh i see. i was aware of the spread but the ricochet i was not. thank you, that answers that question then!
  5. so i have been to a few ranges, both in PA as well as NJ. i have seen a a common restriction regarding shotgun shells, which is they do not allow birdshots. however, buckshots, as well as slugs, as permitted and sold at the range, while birdshots are not allowed or in some cases, even sold at the ranges. this leads me to my question: i am relatively new to shotguns, but it was my understanding that birdshots are the "weaker" of the shotgun shells compared to buckshot and slugs, which then confuses me as to why birdshot are not allowed. now, if a range does not allow birdshot then i can easily enough purchase slugs and buckshots, but this made me curious. does anyone have an answer as to why birdshots would be prohibited at some ranges? if it helps at all, i have a 12 ga.
  6. so i am just curios - what makes the 12 gauge shogun more powerful than the 20? Does it have something to do with the way the gun is configured? or is the difference in the shell? or both? just curious - thanks for any answers.
  7. alright thanks. thats not bad.
  8. so what if the price range for a 7.62x39 saiga? not looking to go spend the cash tomorrow but would just like an idea of how much i should be looking at.
  9. i have heard that WASR's have been known to have problems. A Saiga is more what i would be interested in - how much did it cost you?
  10. thanks for the response, any idea what the AR-10 price is and where i might obtain an nj legal one?
  11. just curious though i probably already know the answer. i know there are ak style rifles, ar style, etc that are nj legal even though the specific firearm is banned in nj. i was curious if there were any such thing as an nj legal fin fal style semi auto rifle. the fin fal is banned under "fn fal" so i was curious if anyone knows any nj legal fin fal style rifles that would be nj legal?
  12. i may not have been clear - i do not mean literal ak47s. i mean nj legal ak style rifles. i am interested in the possibility of purchasing another one. i currently own a gsg 22lr ak i bought at cheyenne. i am interested in looking for a 7.62x39 ak style rifle. i am wondering what the price tag for those are, and where i would even purchase one in central jersey as i have only seen them in PA gun ranges i go to. i am not ready to spend any amount of money for a new gun tomorrow but i would just figure i would get some research going.
  13. i purchased my first ak, a GSG at cheyenne off of rt 130. i called them the other day and they said they dont sell, nor have ever sold, ak47 style firearms and made me sound like an idiot for even wanting to own one. i told them i purchased one from them a few months ago and they began arguing with me about it... this leads me to my question - anyone know any place in central nj that handles ak47 sales? i am familiar with both cheyenne and sportsman center. neither have aks in stock. i also called dicks by the freehold mall and asked about a PG only shotgun and he said he didnt carry them due to vague laws, so i doubt he would carry ak47 styles either. i would like to purchase another GSG or if they arent too expensive, an ak47 firing actual ak ammo. also, please let me know what they cost as i have yet to see any for sale. thanks in advance
  14. i would say that the only real advantage/disadvantage comparing pistol grip to stock pumps is that yes accuracy is sacrificed. but the real difference is maneuverability. i find it easier to maneuver my pg only pump around than if i had a full stock. at the same time, i doubt in a home defense situation you are going to be "aiming" a shotgun. the main selling point of a shotgun for HD is it does not really need to be aimed like a rifle, but more pointed in the direction of the criminal. shotguns spread.
  15. this statement can be misleading. just to clarify, you need to be 21 to PURCHASE a pistol grip only pump, but you can be 18 to OWN a pistol grip only pump. why? who knows. but thats NJ for you
  16. i bought a gun at each sportsman center and cheyenne. at cheyenne i bought a gsg that was on display right then and there. however, i ordered a specific firearm from sportsman center, which was a mossberg persuader with both stock and a separate pistol grip attachment. i agree that cheyenne is overpriced, but my BIGGEST problem is their attitude. they have a very very brash attitude and act like they know everything and you are stupid for asking. i did not care for their salespeople and will not go back to them. sportsman center, i agree, is very outdated. their rifles look like something that would have been used in the spanish-american war. but the salesman are VERY knowledgeable and polite and do not mind answering 30 questions if you have them. and as long as the gun is available somewhere, they will do a transfer for you. i think their transfers are a bit slow but i got my gun and i love it so i dont mind that now. if i had to choose a place to go for advice or a new firearm, id go to sportsman center. i also have a friend who like brick armory.
  17. i can shoot my 12 gauge pg mossberg 500 at face level with no problem, and have never hurt my hand, arm, or face. just make sure you are aware and conscious of the kick each and every time you are about to pull the trigger, and keep it away from in front of your face, but more parallel to your face. just an fyi i am about 5,9" and weighing 125 lbs. everyone who says shotguns hurt or that they broke bones were obviously not firing it right. our palm will probably get red due to the recoil hitting your hand everytime you shoot it but it doesnt hurt.
  18. i bought and currently own a 12 gauge mossberg persuader 500 series pump with only the pistol grip attached. i figured i would share my insight as it may be useful to you. first off, i love my shotgun. it has never failed me at the range with jams or the such and just looks sleek. now, i also bought mine for home defense, and decided to go with the 12 gauge for power and pistol grip for compactness and movement ease. i also prefer the pg as opposed to the full stock since on my 12 gauge the full stock hurts my shoulder more than the pistol grip hurts my hand. i can honestly say that firing one does not hurt whatsoever. i have seen postings about people bashing pg shotguns and sharing stories of spraining or braking hands or wrists, please dont listen to them or make them scare you. is it possible to cause injury to yourself firing a gun? of course - if it is not held properly or your stance is wrong. however the trick is to keep a 90 degree angle at the elbow. keep your hand, wrist, and forearm straight and tight (almost like making a muscle), hold on tight to the gun, and to be ready for the kick. my 12 gauge has a pretty mean kick; does not hurt, just is powerful - which i actually like. i shot about 48 birdshots with no problem, and then about 30 buckshots with no problem. have not shot slugs yet since some ranges i go to dont allow them for some reason. while firing the gun, i had no discomfort, zero. right after firing i have to say my palm was beat red and felt warm but went away about 20 minutes later. the next day i was able to feel a very slight sore palm muscle, right under my thumb where the kick would cause the grip to hit. this lasted about 2 days and gradually got duller and duller. will this stop me from shooting it? no. it is perfectly fine to shoot as long as you have SOME degree of muscle and body weight and to put a little more weight on your forward foot so you dont get off-balance with the recoil. just dont be afraid of it and theres nothing wrong with it. i ordered mine from like... washington state from sportsman center in bordentown nj. and i have never seen a pg shotgun available for rent at my ranges but that may be just my area. if you see someone shooting one at the range ask them if you could fire a few shells. most guys at the range enjoy shooting each others guns from my experience.
  19. i would use my lawyer, but i dont really want to go in guns blazing just yet, as he COULD be busy. but my way of thinking is "how hard is it to make a 5 minute phone call for something YOU did wrong?" cherry hill is about 45 mins away but i may be able to find time to go this week. to your knowledge are "appointments" required to pick you confiscated items?
  20. i know you said you have contacts with CHPD - so everything is finished with this case. the only thing left is to pick up the gun from the police. however, they are not returning phone calls about how to go about getting this item returned. i have received the necessary papers from the prosecutor stating the case was officially dismissed and the gun is available for pickup, however the police refuse to return my calls about this matter. any assistance would be appreciated.
  21. just a word of advice though. even though it TECHNICALLY is correct, a cop will have no problem fining you anywhere from 5 - 500 dollars for a transportation issue regardless of what type of firearm it is. going to court is a hassle for everyone so just better to be "safe than sorry".. dont push your luck and assume the cop pulling you over shares the same assumption as you because he undoubtedly wont. another issue with my PG shotgun was that he made reference to the fact it was easily concealed since it had no stock attached. that was one problem i had when i was purchasing it, some dealers wouldnt even talk with me about it because they said the laws were too vague. others claimed i needed a handgun license to OWN one (not just purchase), and others were readily willing to sell me one. i personally think PG shotgun laws for Nj need to be cleared up EXTREMELY well..
  22. as previously stated, the lawyer did not say my record would be "cleaned" but that this issue would be erased from my criminal record which would leave it clean since i had no prior problems with the law before this record. apparently, this was also why i was not sent to jail upon the charge being filed but allowed to be ROR. honestly, this entire case cost me nothing (except stress). lawyers run in my family as well as coworkers and friends of my parents. So securing a lawyer had no monetary cost to me (thankfully). my lawyer suggested i drop the case since there was nothing left to fight for, since im getting the gun back (with no cost to me), having my record expunged (with no cost to me), and having the entire matter dismissed out of court (at no cost to me). obviously they realize i was right when i TOLD the police who were all snippy with me and acting superior as they usually do, that a pistol grip pump shotgun is perfectly legal. i wonder if this will changes matters on their perspective of guns now. not hearing that someone has a gun in the car and calling for 50 other police vehicles as backup. and to answer someones prior question, yes i have a fid, and i had that in my wallet when i was pulled over. Guyfawkes - nj laws are VERY confusing. and this situation shows that perfectly. we have one of the strictest in the country and i guarantee if all of a sudden there was a law passed banning all types of firearms, no one in the state of nj (except firearm owners) would fight it. if your at all interested in firearms, stay out of, go to pa. that way you could easily come to nj as you please. i think that my situation and all the others who posted in this thread would prove extremely valuable about anyone interested in buying a PG shotgun in nj. im glad it shows up in a google search.
  23. ok everyone, i got the official word from my lawyer a few moments ago. the verdict of this whole situation is that the entire case has been officially dismissed. i am going to receive my property back as soon as i call the police station to make an appointment to pick it up, and my record is being returned to its prior state (which was clean). as of now, i have no criminal record, however my photos and fingerprints are still in the system like most other people. this is great news and i am very excited to get my mossberg back. apparently, the prosecutor admitted that there was really no case, aside the fact that a pistol grip shotgun LOOKS like it would be an assault weapon, the case was settled out of court with really no cost to me. im curious to see what the cops are like when i go to pick it up. i hope they have their tails between their legs. thank you everyone for all the things you have offered me and the advice and assistance you gave. i truly appreciate it. bottom line - pistol grip shotguns are much more hassle than they are worth haha.
  24. the gun was unloaded and there was no ammo in the car. the gun was in a case, but it was a soft case and there was no way to lock it. I was going to order a hard case once i got home. and what does an "OP" mean? and to get this straight, it was legal for me to own a pistol grip shotgun?
  25. I was thinking about it, but as I stated before, he saw the stock off, which was on the floor, and then asked if there was a gun with me. If he asked to then check the bag and see it was a gun, I would have been in a real big mess. And he probably would have filed it also under in arms reach.
