  1. And it didn't take long for VJ to start it either... LOL. It was literally the first post after my initial start of the thread! LMAO! I thought it was a good thread either way. Even though I grew up around guns I'm not ashamed to say there are many guys here that know way... way... way... more than I do. I'm always gaining knowledge from this Forum, which is part of the reason why I decided to jump in and sign up finally... versus just looking at it all the time when I need inormation. Most of you guys really know your s*^t and it was no different with this thread. Regardless of what I originally asked, guys just start dropp'in gems on what they know best... FIREARMS. I picked up a few things from this thread, so it was worth it. I'm glad I finally joined the Forum. Thanks fellas.
  2. My Mom always said I was a trouble maker.
  3. I love the comments in the previous thread that say "welcome to the Dark Side" when referring to... getting into or loving AK's. It's a funny statement but true. Obviously all of us, for the most part, growing up during the Cold War or at the tail end of the Cold War, the Soviet Union was literally the "Dark Side" to us. So naturally, some of us are going to be drawn toward AK47's because it's the weapon of evil... the weapon of our 45 year Cold War enemy. Hell... even 'till this day the AK47 is being wielded against us. Even so, I never think of Middle Eastern terrorists when I think of this rifle, I still think of Communist Russia, which will always have a special place in anyone’s heart over the age of 40. Some of our Grandfathers, Fathers, Uncles, Brothers, Sisters and hell... even some of us here have fought in wars against Imperialist Communism over the ages. It probably won't bring forth a very long thread but I just figured I'd throw this up here to see if anyone had any reflections they'd like to add. I know it's a little cerebral for a gun forum but it just had me thinking... why do we love this rifle so much? What draws us to it? Why do some of us find it so sexy? I mean... I've heard so many arguments from AR guys as to why they hate AK47's so much but you never hear from the other side as to why they love these rifles so dearly. And I'm not talking about... "It's a great mudd gun". I mean really... what draws us to this Rifle? Any thoughts?
  4. I appreciate all of the responses... makes me feel better. I'm loaded up on ammo and I'm bringing the Saiga out this weekend. Chamber flag... great idea! I didn't even think of that! Great thought... I appreciate that! All of my other rifles have a bolt stop and can lock back in a bolt open position... didn't even think of it! Thank you!
  5. I'm having an Ironwood Design stock set made for my SGL21. Looking forward to receiving it and finishing it in the next couple of weeks. Not sure if you guys know about this guy but he's pretty cool. His name is Matt and he's out of San Jose, CA. http://www.ironwooddesigns.com/IWDsite/IWDHome.html
  6. I've owned an Arsenal Saiga SGL24 in 7.62 for a short time now and unfortunately haven’t fired it once. This particular Saiga being on the Arsenal side not the RAA side comes out of the box as an AK variant (if you want to call it that), no conversion needed. It of course was shipped to a NJ FFL and transferred properly. My question doesn't really revolve around that. My question really pertains to a comfort level of bringing the rifle out to the range and firing it. My home range is Range 14 @ Fort Dix... I go out there a decent amount to shoot my other rifles, shotguns and handguns and I've really paid attention to see if I can spot any people firing AK variants, regardless of make. I really can't say that I've ever seen one... ever. Now, of course it's a pretty big firing line and there is decent amount of space between the tables so I can't see everything but I've really paid attention and haven't ever seen one, which makes me apprehensive about bringing this Saiga rifle out to shoot. I know that probably sounds silly to some guys because the rifle is legit but I don't want to draw attention or have the range officer coming down questioning me about my rifle, wondering if it's legal. Any thoughts from you guys? Does anyone shoot an AK variant at Range 14 or know of anyone who does? Many thanks in advance fellas!
