Hmm, somethings wrong there in NJ. I only pay $8.50 a yr for a 7 yr ccw in FL. Maybe a mis-print?

I have to re-new mine next year. Florida is much easier. I have to go back to the People's Republic of NJ in a few days. I think I'm going to start the process next week to get one in NJ. It looks like my wife and I have another 3 years up there before we can move down to Florida for good.

Dont know where you are . Take a trip to shooters NJ and try to quality
You want Paul Whittaker. his qual is exactly what you're looking for 10@5 10@ 7.5 10@ 10 need 24/30 hits

For anyone else saying "thats not a good idea" Sorry no other state that I got a CCW from requires this qualifying crap.

What some don't understand is once you allow NJ to get away with qualification's they won't stop there. Within 10 years or sooner it will be 5 shots at 300 feet and you have to have score 4 out of 5 standing on one foot jumping up and down.   Many other restrictions will follow.  I'm glad my second home is here in Florida. Our Governor said he will sign Constitutional Carry making Florida the 25th state that will have it.

124gr... thanks so much for that info... so depending on the distances... think qualifying w/ my .38 revolver is like 75-80%... with tiny .380 s&w... probably 25-35%... i'll report back if i qualify or not... thanks again

I'm driving backup to NJ at the end of the month. I decided to bring my one of HK VP9sk's up with me and my Glock 42.  I went to the Ft. Myers gun show today and picked up some extra NJ legal mags for both.  I use to shoot GSSF matches. I stopped shooting Glocks when I got into HK's.  As much as I like Glocks I found nothing fits my hand and feels as good to shoot as the VP9 series.  When we built the house down here I brought 90% of my stuff  down. I never thought I would be bringing anything back to NJ.  I still have my Glock 30 up there but that would be like carrying a brick all day at work.  I feel .45 ball is a good choice for a state that we can't carry JHP in.  I wish that G30 fit my hand and carried as well as that VP9sk does.

Ex Carnival, I think some of the pro-2nd amendment folks are very responsible.  Too responsible in some ways.  They only want the best of the best to own a gun.  And avoid an accidental shooting at all costs.  It's very noble.  But it's going to stop 90% of average folks from being able to own and bear arms

IMO the most important part of carrying a gun is knowing when or where to take it out.  Next would be where its okay to carry one. Most of us will hopefully never have to use one.  For me drawing a weapon is a very last resort.  If I have to take one out its a very bad situation.  Its in anyone's best interest if their going to carry one to practice with it.  If not your going to be the one going to jail.

  5. I spend the winters down here in Florida.  Florida has NO qualification score. We do have a safe handling and a live fire.  There are now over 2.6 million CWFL's issued.  I've yet to see any news about a CWFL holder shooing random bystanders in helping others being attacked.  The only time I see that happen is when the NYPD is involved.  My wife and I live in a place in Florida that has a few older residents and new homes being built. We decided to have a party for our new neighbors to meet some of the older ones. We were happy to see how many came armed.  Both men a women. I told my sister about it who's a card carrying liberal from NJ.  She was shocked.  Her husband's brother was chief of Police in our hometown who believed only the police should have guns. They threw a fit when I bought my nephew a BB gun when he was a kid.   My wife and I had no problem with everyone being armed at our house.   I really believe some gun owners in NJ suffer from the Stockholm syndrome when it comes to the 2nd amendment.  Its not a privilege like driving, its a right.  If you do wrong with carrying a gun you will be punished, Especially in NJ.

I learned real fast that carrying guns all day is not fun once the initial novelty of doing so wears off. I went from an Sig P229 and Officer Sized 1911 to a few .380s like the Colt Mustang and Ruger LCP but mostly my Sig P365 and lots of snub nose revolvers to carry in my pocket. Funny that out of all the guns I owned and I owned over 70 that I bought and sold in the last 12 years, the pocket guns twice saved my bacon when I would not have worn a big gun that day. People really do not care what caliber or size gun you have. They do not want to be shot and I still not have run into the drug crazed guy they all talk about who can absorb shot after shot. Maybe I do not go to places where they hang out. :) I am now 71. Most of us in my retirement community of almost 150,000 seniors, start off with hip holster carry and end up with occasional pocket  carry.  No one has been murdered here since the 70's and the was an LEO couple who shot each other at their home. We have tourist visiting here and no outsiders can even find us in the maze we live in that covers 4 counties.  Most others go decades with never even having to think about using the gun they are carrying and so they carry less and less and smaller and smaller when they do. Let's face it, most of us do not even know anyone who would have lived had they had a concealed gun.

When I'm down here in the winter I started pocket carrying my Glock 42 and never looked back.  Today I pocket carry a Sig P365 in cargo shorts.  If its a cold day than I might switch to either a glock, or HK  with an OWB and a larger shirt to cover. I love Florida too.

Just keep some faith that it will be straightened out in court in a few months . Whatever gets set in case law becomes the bottom of how far down they can push gun control down our throats . They went “ full retard” on this one and are going to lose big because of it .

Agreed.  The more off the wall the law they pass is the better the chance of beating it in court. I'm 58 years old and never thought I would ever see CC in NJ  let alone be directed by and anti 2nd amendment governor like Murphy. The Bruen decision gave us a new decision to use in cases. It will take time.   Unfortunately in March I have to return to the Peoples Republic of NJ for another season of work.  I'm  bringing my Glock 42 back with me.  I plan to beg the Kings pardon for a CC Permit. Hopefully this madness is all worked out by than.  January 3rd might be an interesting day.

On top of that, I am pretty sure the Judges will want to remove themselves from the approval process altogether (a combo of: they are redundant now, there is a shortage of judges, volume of permits coming in plus the 2 year backlog of evictions they need to address first because of corona) and that would change things as well.

In Florida we now have over 2 million licenses issued.  NJ like Florida will be seeing people applying  for non residents permits too. The number here will be high, maybe not Florida high but high enough to tie up the courts. Someone else posted pages back Judges will still have a role to play in this with appeals.  It would be great to see a million permits here.

I'm not an attorney, but I do play one on TV.  (Actually in contracts for the past 20+ years.)  You are correct and that's why I questioned it earlier in this thread.

@KurtC is probably the subject expert here, but again, I refer to @gunforhire's last episode because he and his guest have been at the front of the fight and know the details and the realistic path forward.

Yes, I did get excited and filled out the form and started to assemble the backup materials, but as I was doing that, I was listening to the podcast and realized that the path forward was unclear and would change before my application would be submitted.  Yes, I do want to legally carry, as I grew up in PA and was allowed to carry there before I moved here to the PRNJ, but realistically, we all know that the government will throw roadblocks in front of us in some way, shape or form, including holding applications until the administrative code is changed, FARS gets modified, etc.

Patience, gents.  We've gotten this far and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

My plan is to wait too. I leave for Florida in November and won't be back until March.  I'll still watch this forum and the State Police page to see what required. When we have something concrete than I plan to move forward.

  10. I think Monday is Jones VS Crab. Mr. Jones was arrested for putting his hook in the water 15 minutes too early after a complaint by his neighbor for violating city ordnance 324392 (Fishing before 9 am)    His tackle box was searched for illegal hooks. None were found. Mr. Jones sandwich was taken as evidence.  He's seeking relief and his sandwich back.

  11. This reminds me of NJ even though its in California. A man was arrested for carrying a gun in public for self defense  . He tried to get a permit but was denied under may issue. His lawsuit is that how can he be arrested for doing something that he tried but was denied a permit for?  Here's the link.

When asked about the SCOTUS Bruen case during the 03/31/22 episode of WNYC's "Ask Governor Murphy":

    https://www.wnyc.org/story/ask-governor-murphy-how-will-new-budget-tackle-property-taxes-and-affordable-housing

    (segment starts at 28:30)

[Staffer] "..are you paying attention to this case, and if the conceal carry ban is overturned, is NJ preparing for this?"

[Murphy] "...If this is overturned, we will clearly do everything in our power, if this is overturned, at the state level to try to compensate if we get bad news..."

[Host] "..If they decide in favor of open carry for NY state, does that automatically make every law across the country unconstitutional...does NJ have to immediately go to open carry?".

[Murphy] "...I don't have a good legal constitutional answer for you but...not on my watch..."

Murphy is a politician not a judge.  He's not going to have a choice. The law will be the law. Judges and lawyers respect Supreme Court rulings even if they don't agree with them. I really don't think NJ will ignore a Supreme court ruling. If they were to do that it would undermine our court system in this country. If politicians and judges can ignore the Supreme court than we have a dictatorship.

What determines who writes the decision?

If Thomas is writing it, would it lean more in our favor?

The rumor mill is either Thomas or Barrett Again just going on what I've been reading with his seniority  he could take it. Also the betting people are saying neither Thomas or Barrett haven't written any recent decisions . The Las Vegas money is on either one of those two leaning towards Thomas with his seniority. Myself. I don't trust Barrett.
