  1. I sent them a letter:

I don't think your organization understands the importance of 'Stand Your Ground' laws. There are certain instances in which an individual has the due right to protect his personal being and property. For example: I am walking home late at night, a criminal would like to accost me with a knife or a gun. What are my options here? A.) Call the police - takes too long, I could be dead already. B.) I give him my money/items hoping he doesn't kill the only witness, me. C.) Defend my self with justified force if necessary to protect life and limb.

There are certain instances where running/hiding/giving up your valuables are not viable when criminals perpetrate certain crimes. Instead of you grandstanding about the lack of 'Stand Your Ground' law maybe you should be asking criminals to turn in their weapons so that there isn't a need for a 'Stand Your Ground' law.

Better yet, I would like to have a intelligent dialog about a fair and proper 'Stand Your Ground' law. If you understand that there will always be a criminal element and that members of society will always have prey-predator dynamics then you understand the justification for a 'Castle Doctrine'/'Stand Your Ground' law. There have been many cases of Florida's castle doctrine saving many lives due to criminal activity and "predators" stalking their "prey" which outweighs singular events such as Treyvon Martin's unfortunate death.

As someone that would rather defend his life and liberty with force when it is unjustly taken/deprived it pains me to see organizations naive as youself to the reality of our times. A walk through Camden/Newark/Jersey City is in order for your organization where crime is prevalent and individuals don't have the rights to defend themselves.

  2. Interesting point. I say legal ccw folks still hold the upper hand. While Mr. Gangster is trying to look all cool holding his 45 sideways, people like us who go to the range and practice would probably be more effective delivering a proper placed shot out of a 380 or 9mm.

But this contradicts what you said earlier:

Let me ask you this. Have you had a gun pulled on you? I shoot regularly with retired LEOs at my range. They have said that regardless of how good a shot you are, when your put in the situation having a gun pulled on you, it's all different. Guys that were marksman with pistols out to 50 yards would miss in a firefight 10 feet from the target.

  3. I agree. Getting back to the original purpose of this thread, if we had CCW I believe in time the bad guys would get a message that they might be eating lead instead of driving off in a jacked BMW. If it passed today, I say it would take a year or so and some bad guys being met with the barrel of a gun for word to spread through the criminal world that us ordinary folks are not gonna get stepped on any more.

Or conversely since they know we are packing they get stronger guns hoping to intimidate. Just playing devil's advocate. I'm all for CCW.

  4. I picked up this pistol due to a permit about to expire and the budget I have, figured it would be a good gun to have for fun. In context the only other pistol I have ever owned was a 22a1 target pistol by S&W.

    Initial thoughts pre firing weapon:

    • Slide is incredibly smooth
    • Medium grip should feel good in normal size hands like mine
    • Weight feels good
    • Trigger feels solid

    Thoughts post firing weapon:

    • Hell of a gun to own
    • Sights from the factory are terrible, adjust when you take it out for the first time
    • Trigger has a clean break but requires a trip for your finger to get there
    • Reliable work horse
    • Great for target practice (once all the bugs are worked out)

So here are my thoughts after firing 300 rounds through the gun. The weight is good as outlined above, the grip doesn't exhaust your hand, you don't get tired of holding the gun. The presentation from Smith & Wesson is awesome and I just wish there was an additional clip in the set instead of having to buy one (I bought an extra at the time or purchase). The first 100 rounds of ammo were CCI Mini Mag (Copper plated), felt great, not a single failure on firing, no ftf, no duds, no stove pipes. Everything went smooth. Moved onto CCI Blazer Bulk, not a single failure as well but was not impressed with the ammunition. The lead nose left a lot of gunk in the barrel. I cleaned it out as much as I could with my kit (maybe I have a shit kit, who knows...) and still see some lead pressed against the groove walls of the barrel.

From this point on I can only recommend shooting copper plated ammunition out of this gun. Towards the end of my night I was getting lead build up at the end of the barrel on the outside of the gun so that was a disappointment as well.

    Thoughts on cleaning the gun:

    • Easy take down (this is my first slide gun)
    • Components were easy to clean
    • Components were easy to oil up
    • Reassembly is just as easy as disassembly.
    • Barrel has big grooves a tight fitting barrel brush works best

    Thoughts on the sights:

    • Horrible adjustments from the factory
    • Take some adjusting to get dialed in.
    • Might want to remove them all together and find replacements (if the market has any, looking into this).

Bottom line, fun gun to have, would make a nice addition to any collection, I look forward to buying a 9mm or a .40 version of this gun soon.

  5. Up to a 10 year sentence isnt enough? They had to hit him with deportation, too? I agree that he should be punished for his role in what happened, but this punishment is way too much

I don't understand what you mean here... He violated the law, his action lead to the death of another citizen of this country. I think he got off easy with deportation. It was a hate crime because he knew what he was doing when he decided to publish that stream.

    Materials:

    • Red nail polish
    • White nail polish
    • Nail polish remover
    • Cotton balls

Basically I raided my girlfriends beauty kit and had a blast. Have a little more clean up to do otherwise I am happy with the results. It took a little patience to get the white off because it has a habit of smearing if you use too much. I freaked out when I went to clean it on the first pass because I thought I ruined the coating. Did some research and realized anodized coatings on this lower are like next to impossible to ruin.
