  1. Of course, not being able to actually see inside, I am guessing.

However, I understand that they install a limiter inside the spring.  This limiter essentially becomes a blockage between the baseplate and the follower, preventing the follower from traveling further down the magazine cavity than the capacity allows.

Midwest sells 10 and 5 round limiters for do-it-yourself conversions.

No legal reason why I could not remove the base plate for cleaning as long as I do not remove the limiter.

IMHO, epoxying the limiter to the follower would be a better approach for perminency than epoxying the ranger plate.

I was kind of hoping for a response from Midwest PX.

  2. First, let me say that I am a huge fan of Midwest PX compliant mags.  I have ordered at least 20 from you over the years and I recommend you every time someone asks where to find 15-round NJ mags.  But one thing irks me: I cannot remove your baseplates for cleaning.

I was able to find and drift out the pins, but the ranger plate still will not budge.  Are they also epoxied?  Is there a way to remove the baseplate without ruining the ranger plate?

    Thanks for your advice.

  3. I did not mean to imply that the NRA's approach is a complete failure. I just do not see it changing the minds of people who believe the ban would be limited to military grade weapons that have no purpose other than killing people. The latest polls indicate that people sincerely believe what the POTUS told them, Someone needs to attack to premises upon which the anti-gunners are making their case for reasonable gun control.

    - Assault weapons are not "military-grade."

    - Many assault weapons are legitimate hunting and sporting rifles. Millions of people own them and use them legitimately.

    - The AWB as proposed does ban AR's but also would ban virtually every semiautomatic rifle and shotgun, if not by features, then by name.

This is what I heard in the video. Obviously people observe things from their own perspective.

  4. The anti-gunners understand that they are the minority and that they need to sway the people in the middle.

If you think about it, they have offered a very simple and logical argument for someone who does not understand too much about firearms.

We need a simple response. Decompose the premises in the ban argument and offer another reasonable solution.

If we keep up with counterintuitive arguments about teachers carying firearms, more guns less violence, etc., we will lose.

It's about winning people over from the middle, not fighting anti-gunners.

    Just my humble opinion.

  5. I don't recall any advocation for stricter penalties. I thought the message was: enforce the laws we already have and punish the criminals.

And you do not have to support a position 100% to advocate it.

ETA: Part of the reason the NRA's message is failing is because the are trying to be the perfect pro-gun organization; advocating arguments that will only be won amongst pro-gunners (essentiall, preaching to the choir).

If we want to win, we will need to compromise. If forced to compromise, I would happily give up on things like sentensing and background checks.

  6. I do not blame internet retailers for not doing business with NJ. It is not their fault, it is our government's fault.

If you were running a national business, would you do business in NJ? Why would you risk your FFL and lawsuits from the AG over some minimum-wager making a mistake? Why would you incur the out-of-state legal expenses to keep your systems up to date on how our AG and NJSP are interpreting the laws differently this year vs. last year?

Bottom line: they do not make enough money from us to justify the added cost for doing business here.

  7. Slip2K. I put that sh!t on everything.

Some people like to use grease on blowback-operated pistols, I tried grease for a while, but did not percieve much advantage over regular Slip2000.

IMHO, you do not need special lube for individual guns. One quality lube should work for all. Use any high quality lube you want.

As a rule, stay away from the "does everything" lubes like CLP and Remoil. IMHO, they do an OK job at everything, and therefore do a great job at nothing.

  8. This might not be news because I have not been looking for AR parts for a while. But I just discovered that SG is restricting saless of all tactical components to NJ; even triggers and repair kits, A2 stocks, bull barrels and other components that have nothing to do with the AWB.

It looks like their rule is: if it has AR or AK in the description, it is no-go to NJ.

    This sucks!

  9. Hope they have a warrent, I ain't answering.

This ain't happening. (1) No cop wants to put himself into danger by going into someone's house under these circumstances. (2) They would need to have 4 officers to control the situation. Small towns would not have the manpower. (3) The LEO unions and organizations would most likely fight it.

But, if this does pass, I am going to sit at the kitchen table in my rattiest pair of underwear. "Welcome to my home; enjoy the view boys."

IMHO, this is just politics: They stack up a bunch of obserd stuff they reallty do not want along side the stuff they really do want. Then they "conceed" on the crap during negotiations and walk out with what they really wanted anyway.

I am still trying to find the text of this Bill. Anyone have a link?

  10. See they were upfront with you about the delays. When I purchased, I called ahead, the gun was in stock and would ship normally. I guess not. And I'm not here to bash them, I just want to hear from you all and see if this is an isolated case or do they have a habit of doing this

Go online during CST business hours. They have a link to chat with a customer service representative. IMHO. that is the best way to reach a human.

  11. that's all well and good...but Buds needs to keep the customer in the loop...

Customer service cost money. Bud's is only making between $20 and $30 per sale. If you want to do business at Bud's awesome prices, you need to tolerate a lower standard in customer service. If you want top-tier customer service, I suggest going to a local brick and morter store or ordering from Gallery of Guns.

  12. Bud's is one of the best drop-shippers on the net. With free shipping, you cannot beat their prices anywhere.

I have purchased at least 8 or 9 guns from them; all were great experiences.

Their website warns you that now is not the time to expect the greatest customer service. Just have faith and wait it out.

Also, once and only once, they shipped a pistol to my FFL without notifying me. Oooops. After 7 days of not receiving a shipment notification, I called and they told me it shipped 3 days prior. A forgivable oversight, considering the savings.

  13. I have both Ruger and Butler Creek. The only real differences between genuine Ruger and Butler Creek are:

    (1) Metal vs. polymer lips--We have thousands of rounds through the 10/22 and there is no difference in functionality.

    (2) Solid black vs. see-thru plastic housing--Butler Creek mags look like toys. But for kids, or plinking, who cares.

If you want to save some money, plan to use for plinking, and do not care about the cheezy see-through look, then go with the hot-lips.

If you plan to rely on a your 10/22 for defense or TEOTWAWKI, I would go with Ruger mags.

    Just my humble opinion.
