  1. Sure...You must have an impressive background to have the significant time, resources and direct personal experience on each system, in order to make such a sweeping statement...I only own one of the models specified, a PWS, in addition to some others; Noveske and POF, and have shot one of the others specified briefly; LWRC, so I'm not qualified to make that statement...I'll have to defer to your expertise...

This isn't a technocracy. I don't need to be an expert to be a good consumer. I was working within the parameters of your metaphor, which, if I understood it correctly, you used to argue that some people simply want nicer things in life, even if those nicer things are only marginally better despite the price disparity. You contrasted the Rec7 as a Corvette against other rifles like LWRC and PWS. I certainly see the increased price, but I don't see the increased performance, even marginally. That was my point.

  2. Why buy a Corvette when your Cobalt is fast enough for highway speeds. Your Camaro is nearly as quick, so who needs a Vette...both are cheaper to boot...I see no value in the price tag on a Corvette...I've got this old Lumina that I bet is just as fast...

    Sure...

The Barrett is not measurably better than products from either PWS or LWRC. One could very well make the argument that PWS and LWRC make better products. The extra grand is for name alone. This isn't comparing a Cobalt to a Corvette. It's comparing a Camaro to a Mustang and having the Mustang cost 50% more.

  3. Old Topic but just saw it-

Barrett Customer Support is top notch.  I had a small issue with my Gen 2 and sent an email around 8am one morning.  I received a call from the Head of the Gen 2 project team in 20 minutes.  Guy was super cool and willing to do anything to fix the issue.  At this stage in my life I value that kind of support, as I really don't have time mess with "toy" issues.  Is that support worth the premium Barrett charges for their AR?  Only the individual can say, but for me it's a resounding yes!  If you can afford it, fantastic, if not enjoy what you can afford.  They all spit lead out the business end.

PWS has fantastic customer support as well. I still don't see where this extra grand is coming from.

  4. You can't act like the officer should operate with the same level of discretion on an offense which is legally equivalent to a felony as he would with a simple traffic violation. The the LE in LEO stands for law enforcement, and we should hate the game not the player. Imagine the horror if police officers were granted discretion with felonies. It's a stupid law, but it's a law nonetheless and if we don't like it we should fight it, not lay blame on the officer who by chance was involved.

  5. The thing that gets me about this case more than anything is that unlawful possession of a handgun is a second degree crime. What else is a second degree crime in New Jersey? Sexual assault and manslaughter. Really!?

If this was a misdemeanor or an aggravated charge, then I could see it making sense, but Title 2C is effectively saying that the woman in this case may as well have sexually assaulted or negligently killed someone. She'd be in the same boat. That's what's mind boggling to me.

I've discussed this with my liberal friends and their retorts were absolutely mind boggling (and this is coming from the token "liberal" among us, mind you). I'm getting the hell out of this state ASAP. I need to retreat inland because there must be something in the water.

  6. So ... what counts as 26" anyway? An AR broken down in two halves is likely to be shorter then 26" anyway unless using a 20" barrel.  If that isn't illegal, then you could theoretically make a molded plastic piece that is 26" and attaches to the lower (worlds longest receiver vice block?). If that is legal then attaching a long dowel with ducttape should also make it 26".  And if that is legal, and having the upper and lower separated is legal, then as long as I have a broom and some string in the house the stripped lower is legal.

Following these to the illogical extremities is pointless, none of the gun laws make any sense if you look at them hard enough.

Your post made me laugh Vlad. I hear you. Reminds me of the quote: "To argue with a person who has renounced the use of reason is like administering medicine to the dead."

  7. Alright. So if I'm following this correctly, the reason an AR15 lower does not require OAL compliance is because it is not a rifle, but instead an 'other'. This then begs the question of how much we can add to the lower before it becomes classified as either a pistol or a rifle and consequently becomes subject to the respective regulations.

Is the classification dependent on function as T Bill suggested? If so, would I presumably be able to finish the lower minus, say, the receiver extension?

  8. So I understand that once a rifle, always a rifle, and if a lower is transfered as a rifle I can't make it a pistol. But if a rifle is transfered as a pitol then it is subject to state and federal pistol regulations.

But what exactly is a lower? Is it a rifle by default? Or is it just a firearm?

The fact that I need to ask this question demonstrates the absurdity of the law, but it's an interesting thought experiment.

  9. What did you use to remove the noveske panels? I don't want to scratch the rails up too bad using 5 screwdrivers at once

Fingernails if they're long enough. Other than that any non-metallic pry small enough to fit.

  10. No it's not and yes they are. It's 100% seeking attention and proving the political point that we now live in Central America and the government is ready to gun down all of us in masse at the drop of a hat.

Uh. Yes, it is their job. Those are issued weapons and they are operating within department mandated GOs/SOPs. They are doing their job. Whatever crazy shit you get out of that is your own problem.

  11. It's these officer's job to carry firearms in this manner. They aren't seeking attention to prove some kind of political point.

It also appears that they are guarding the 9/11 memorial. Not the everyday patrol officers you're making them out to be. Leave the sensationalist bullshit out of this. It's apples and oranges and you should be smart enough to know that.
