  1. There is no loophole. The laws are the way they are. The anti's call everything they want to change a loophole. So after universal background checks what will the next loophole they want to close. So I purchased a firearm and got a background check. But next week I might commit a felony. The loophole is that I still have my gun. So if we required a background check every time the firearm leaves my house that would fix the problem. This is all bs. We know they have only one political objective and that is to ban/destroy all private firearms. There is no point in giving them an inch and being "reasonable". Fortunately more and more regular (non-gun) people are not buying their lies as seen by recent poles. OK off of my soapbox.

  2. For those that are interested Massad gives his Mag 40 course once a year at Gun For Hire:

    http://gunforhire.com/mag-40-massad-ayoob/

    The course is 40 hours (4x10 hour days). The first two are at Easton and involve shooting while the last two are at Gun For Hire and are in the classroom. A great course including both the shooting and classroom and it will give you a better perspective about what to do and not do in a deadly force encounter.

    Andrew periodically gives his course in NJ. It covered both PA and NJ law when I took it. It also had an option to use his video simulator. You then get an opportunity to be critiqued on how you handle the situations. I don't see anything scheduled for NJ right now.

  3. Once you get to court with an overzealous prosecutor then all things rational are out the window. Ayoob (and others) want you to keep your defensive gun as manufactured. This includes things as silly as a skull on the back plate. The prosecutor closes to the jury and says

    ........ Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. The perpetrator was so intent on killing a person he lowered the trigger weight from what the manufacturer thinks is safe to an unsafe 'hair' trigger. His guns even had a skull emblazoned on the back plate......

    It can be a nasty world so why make it any easier for the anti-2a prosecutor.

    I know it is all low probability but for a defensive gun it is safer to just leave it stock.

    The Glock armorer's course has the same admonitions. In a police shooting they are going to thoroughly investigate everything. They want the gun to be strictly stock.

    The lawyer/shooter Andrew Branca in his book and source "The Law of Self Defense" teaches the same (he btw graduated from Ayoob's course decades ago).

    ASSAULT FIREARMS

    AG Guide

    B. a semi-automatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of the following:

    1. an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;
    2. a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;
    3. a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;
    4. manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and
    5. a semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm; and,

  5. As expected another slanted NYT article. The explosion of gun violence???? Except for the slight increase in the largest violent cities that have the most stringent gun laws (like Chicago) crime is at all time lows (as per the FBI stats). But who cares about facts anyway. Once we get a couple of more 2A friendly justices on the SCOTUS this initiative will be at the fringes and hopefully when the next Heller type landmark decision comes around our 2A rights will get more firmly entrenched in the law.

  6. Chicago ban on minors at gun ranges struck down under the Second Amendment

    "The City’s primary defense of the age-18 limitation is to argue that minors have no Second Amendment rights at all. To support this sweeping claim, the City points to some nineteenth-century state laws prohibiting firearm possession by minors and prohibiting firearm sales to minors. Laws of this nature might properly inform the question whether minors have a general right, protected by the Second Amendment, to purchase or possess firearms. But they have little relevance to the issue at hand."

  7. It is not manufactured with a shoulder stock so it is not a NJ shotgun. If it is a smooth bore pump handgun (not semi-automatic so no weight maximums). But it fires a cartridge over .60 caliber which is only valid in a shotgun (which this is not) so doesn't it become a "Destructive Device" which is not NJ legal?

  8. Welcome and do lots of reading here before you actually make a decision. You should apply for you FPID and Permits To Purchase A Pistol from your local police department. They can take a long time to get but it should be quick in gun friently Hunterdon County.

  9. I don't understand why people in the NJ gun community keep celebrating this NH carry lawsuit victory. It does nothing to help the law abiding gun owners of NJ to protect themselves in their home state. The money, time, and resources used to fight NH would have been better used if they were allocated to suing NJ.

    I agree it doesn't help us directly in NJ by it is the easiest way to be able to carry in PA.

  10. If you can get away make a trip to Harrisburg PA in a few weeks to the Great American Outdoor Show:

    https://www.greatamericanoutdoorshow.org/

    You can then handle and lust over tons of firearms and I can guarantee you will be able to find something for $1000.

    btw: It is mainly a display from the large manufacturers although some of the smaller vendors do sales of accessories.

  11. Lucky Gunner has done a couple of video's about this. They also found a company that makes a new stop lever that in theory fixes the problem.

    http://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/beretta-1301-tactical-update/

    The solution is a new latch and shroud made by Aridus Industries ($60).

    http://www.aridusindustries.com/products/yt-1301-latch-and-shroud/

    I tried this a few months ago but it didn't seem to work for me. I have to find some time to go back to this and see if I can get it to work properly.

  12. IMHO This is a design problem with the gun. If you accidentally bump that big release you can get the double feed. Not much fun if you need it. You can learn not to go near it but it still could become an issue at the wrong time.
