  1. Just had this conversation with my wife.......

SC... Home 329k built 2007.... Three bedroom 2.5 bath....two car garage etc.... Taxes... 1,638 per year.... I'm paying 12k....for Fugging NJ....bullshite....

My friend in FL was renting a place in NJ.  $1300 a month, plus utilities.

He moved to FL, bought a 4 bedroom house in a nice neighborhood, has a 2 car garage, 2.5 baths, an in-ground pool(with huge solar heater on the roof and a waterfall), a massive covered patio with a bar, and the house was built in 2007.  His mortgage is $800/month, and his taxes are $166 a month(2000/year).

We pay $3000 a quarter here in taxes(12K/year...same as you Nickjc) in NJ.

  2. Yes, we need to be on the offensive. I said that before, and I say it again. We always seem to be playing defense with these issues. Now it's time to push back and fix the system. Why did I wait 4 1/2 months for a replacement FID card and 3 pistol purchase permits? Why do I need PPP's? Why am I paying $18 again for another replacement FID card background check? They just typed one up for me, why not let me pay the $6 and have a second one issued at the same time? What kind of stupid BS is this?

Yes, I want a backup FID card to keep in my safe in case something happens to this one. For five months I had no FID and had to have my wife buy all the long guns and ammo since she has hers.

    Forget the fee's entirely IMO.

What ever "extra" records NJSP checks over the standard FBI NICS check, have them submit those records to the FBI.  Eliminiate the FID/P2P system.  Our taxes are already paying for the FBI NICS system, so why we're paying for Troopers/Clerks to staff the firearms unit is beyond me.   One FBI NICS check at the point of sale is sufficient, especially if NJ submits the additional records to their system.  Any more than that and it's redundant, and wasting tax dollars.  If one background check can't catch the "bad" stuff then what good is 2 or 3+ background checks?

It's wasting our time, NJSP's time and valuable manpower(we pay Troopers to be police not push paperwork in an office in Trenton), our money, or tax dollars...it's negative all the way around.

  3. Expect to see this bill, already passed by the Assembly, come before (and pass I'm afraid) the D-controlled Senate Law and Public Safety committee before this legislative session is through.

It will be voted on by the lame ducks who will have nothing to lose once the election is done, and this will be their revenge on CC for today's vetoes.

    A1329

Reduces maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.

I wouldn't put it past our State Assembly to do something like that in revenge, but I don't see Christie passing this one either.  If they try to, maybe we can get Magpul to flood our state with 15 rounders like they did with Colorado with 30 rounders.

  4. So relieved! Think I'll open a bottle of scotch tonight :)

I might have to go get some celebratory alcohol of some sort.

IMO now it's time to go on the offensive.  We've done well at battling these bad bills, but lets get rid of our unconstitutional FID system, and lets get rid of the justifiable need clause in the CCW laws!

  5. How about red loctite?

Definitely not.  Red loctite is good, but not that good.  I can always undo red loctited stuff with a good set of wrenches/sockets.  A little bit of heat makes it even easier.

The 1100 degree solder at a minimum.

    Best to pin and weld.

  6.  Working up for a hog hunt in Florida early in 2014

I'm going to FL in January on a hog hunt with my friend.  He's the one with the 6.8...he built that for hog hunting.

That's part of the reason I want to do a bigger caliber AR.  I was originally going to go 6.8, but that video really convinced me about the 300 blackout.

I'm going to start ordering parts here in the next week to build an upper.  I'm sure once I have an upper in my hands I'll go out and buy a lower and build that too

  7. Travis Haley's take:

After watching this...I looked up 300 BLK parts.  I would build a dedicated upper for it rather than dealing with swapping barrels.

For the price, I can do a 300 BLK for a lot cheaper than a 6.8.  And give the guys quick hit on the 6.8...300 blackout seems like a better choice.

I might have to do this...

  8. It's imperative. you need to get a slew of rejections. It empowers the judicial case and eliminates their defense

Not to mention if everyone suddenly goes and applies for a permit, it shows there is a demand for CCW in NJ.  If we get denied(which we certainly will), we jump on the wagon like Pantano challenging justifiable need as a large class action suit against the state.

  9. I am pretty sure that has not happed any where in the world, though I do know for sure a 50 cal rifle has never brought down an airplane any where in the world

Well most commercial airplanes fly around 33,000 feet.  The average 50BMG round travels at under 3,000fps.  That is about 11 seconds just for the round to get on target.  The average cruising speed of an Airbus A320(the most common plane I've flown on) is mach .78 which is roughly 594 mph, or 872 fps. So some how you would have to calculate the proper lead time without knowing the actual speed or altitude on the plane.  Speaking of altitude, with a plane at cruising altitude-That is a 6.25 mile shot which I don't think any sniper in the world could pull off(I don't think any have done a shot at half that distance with a stationary target) That's IF the bullet would even travel that far.  I think it would fall back to land before traveling that far.  You also have bullet drop, wind, and other weather factors.

That being said, even during take off or approach planes are still moving several hundred miles per hour.

In other words, IMO the "shoot down a plane" defense is a load of crap.  This is why you see the videos and photos of the anti-aircraft guns shooting thousands of rounds at planes and still missing.

  10. Anyone knows the number of NJ residents holding Utah/Florida out of state CCW?

I'm sure it's much more than total number of NJ  issued CCWs.

Wouldn't it be a good argument point?

Those people shouldn't have problems signing petition/affidavit or testifying.

I'm not sure of the laws FL/Utah have pertaining to releasing info about CCW permit holders, but you can try filing an OPRA request through FL and Utah for the number of NJ residents holding FL and or Utah non-resident CCW permits.

  11. Feel free to use these/edit them, whatever- I don't care.  Probably not the greatest of letters but whatever, they get the message across and I was pissed off when I wrote them...I kept myself from going off on them though

This is the letter I sent to the AG(at the time, now it's some other guy since Chiesa is working Senate duty).  Letter I sent to Rick Fuentes was roughly the same:

    Dear Attorney General Chiesa,

I'm writing to you today to see if there is any way you can assist me in obtaining permits to purchase a pistol from the N.J. State Police from the Woodbine Barracks.  I applied for 3 permits on December 20th, 2012.  My references were called on December 28th, 2012.  They have cashed the check/money order for the fees- months ago.
I've been waiting for these permits for over 4 months now, 135 days to be exact (as of the date of this letter), and counting.

As I’m sure you are aware, by state law this is supposed to be done in 30 days.  I am aware that our courts have essentially created case law, which allows law enforcement to take longer if in the interest of public safety.  I feel I have been more than patient enough.  I’m being deprived of my Constitutional Right.  NJSP is treating this as a privilege.
I have called the Woodbine Barracks to see if the permits were in, or what the status might be on them, but the Trooper who answered the phone could only tell me that the Barracks approved the application, and sent it to Trenton.  He went on to say that if I didn't get a call, they are not in yet.  That was 4+ weeks ago.
Is there anything you can do to assist me in obtaining the permits in a timely fashion?

Letter to NJSP Internal Affairs(actually called the "Office of Professional Standards"):

    To whom it is concerned,

I’m writing to express my great concern over a situation that has affected me for over 4.5 months now.

I applied at NJSP Woodbine Barracks on December 20th, 2012 for 3 permits to purchase a handgun.

I still do not have the permits.  Today is day 136, and counting, since I applied.

My references were called on December 28th, 2012.   When I spoke to a Trooper at the barracks about a month ago, he said that the barracks had approved my application and sent it off to Trenton.  They cannot provide me with any other information.  My check and money order has been cashed- months ago.

Please keep in mind that this is a right protected by the Constitution, not a privilege.

I am aware that as per NJSA 2C:58-3 these permits are supposed to be approved or denied within 30 days of the application.  I am also aware that our courts have ruled that law enforcement can take longer if it is in the interest of public safety.

Taking that into consideration, I feel that I have been more than patient in waiting this long.  I paid for a service, and it has not been rendered in a timely fashion, certainly not anywhere close to conforming to the state statute.

Now I’m not sure as to what is going on in Trenton, but local municipal police departments have been turning these permits out in 4-6 weeks.  I’ve been waiting 19, almost 20 weeks.

At the end of each I left my contact information.

  12. I wouldn't be surprised if serious charges could be filed for shooting someone with a paintball gun..

Probably, but the potential charges of trespassing, and vandalism kind of nixed that idea with his parents.  It caused no bodily harm to him as he was wearing a heavy sweatshirt and the paint is washable.

I was "marking" him for identification as the suspect who was trespassing on my property and vandalizing my property.  After all, it is a paintball "marker".

  13. How soon after you applied?

I'm a little past the 30 day mark for my latest P2Ps and I'm pissed because my town usually had a 2-3 week turnaround time.  This time they're blaming it all on NJSP, not sure how much of that is true.

To clarify- NJSP is my local PD.

For the letter to Jeff Van Drew, I waited till around the 90 day mark. He personally called me within a week of me mailing the letter.  He's a very good guy.  One of the only "good" democrats.

For the NJSP internal affairs, Governor Christie, and the AG I waited till around the 125 day mark.

My friend is around the 85 day mark and he wants me to print him out all of my letters I sent, edited with his information so he can mail them out now.

When I apply next time I plan to mail them out much sooner than I did before.  Especially that internal affairs one.  I had probably a good 20-30 minute conversation with the investigator and he seemed pretty understanding that waiting that long is wrong- and illegal.  He was in the firearms unit for 13 years so he had a good understanding of what goes on in that department.

I'm currently almost at 2 weeks just waiting for the possibility of an extension on one of the P2P's.  The Trooper I dropped it off to wasn't sure if they would approve it or not.

  14. I sent them a letter- never heard back.

I sent one to NJSP Internal Affairs, got a phone call the day they received the letter.  The investigator was chomping at the bit, and had already contacted the firearms unit and the barracks. I had received the permits the day before they called me, but I feel like this was the best response I got out of all the letters I sent.

I sent letters to Rick Fuentes(head of NJSP), Senator Jeff Van Drew(who actually called me, but I'm not sure it helped with getting my permits sooner), NJSP IA, and Governor Christie.  I didn't hear anything from Rick Fuentes or Christie.

  15. True.  And he did acknowledge that point.  And at least he also acknowledged the dichotomy:  "You can have a gun to protect yourself.. but I don't know if I trust you with it".. That's a much better stand than the politicians who only see the one side of it.

Well, if they enacted CCW in NJ for a trial period of 5 years like some have suggested, perhaps that would help him gain a little trust in us law abiding carrying concealed guns.  It would prove to everyone, politicians included that it won't turn into the wild west/Syria.

Unless of course he's out robbing people, then he would have a reason to fear...you don't know who is armed and who isn't.

But of course this is NJ and anything logical is wrong.

  16. Waiting outside with a bright flashlight and a BB Gun night.

I've waited outside in my bushes in camo with the paintball gun. My BB gun will penetrate through a 3/4" piece of plywood- not a good idea to shoot someone with.

3 years a row the neighbor kid(~12-14 years old at the time) toilet papered our trees and wrote in our driveway with a bar of soap. With the morning dew soaking the toilet paper it made it nearly impossible to get it out of the trees(35ft tall).  He would do it at like 2-3AM, so we didn't find it till about 7AM.

I waited till about 1:30AM and sure enough he came walking down the street.

I ended up watching him toss the first roll, and then I shot...nailed him right in the chest. He took off running.  I then went next door and had a chat with his parents.  I banged on the door until they came and answered it.  They both denied he did it, so I asked for him to come and join our conversation.  I then asked his parents, if he wasn't throwing toilet paper into my trees, then why does he have paint all over his sweatshirt?   I just shot a paintball at whoever was toilet papering my trees in the chest, and found this backpack in my driveway with 3 or 4 rolls of toilet paper and a bar of soap, which they identified as his backpack.  They started screaming at him and made him come over and clean it up.  He hasn't done anything since(4 years ago).
