  1. I wish I could. He has been very clear about his position on this subject. I am being denied by his not processing the application. There's more to it too. I have a firearms hearing coming up in January, 2014 to try and recover a rifle that I inherited from my father when he passed. My ex girlfriend instigated a domestic violence incident, had me removed from our home with a restraining order, then turned the gun in to the police. I was acquitted of her (BS) charges. I get the feeling that someone in the local PD wants the rifle, it's a Remington model 1903 .30 '06, and that is why my application is being stalled. I wish there was some way to circumnavigate this guy and his nonsense.

" There shall be no conditions or requirements added to the form or content of the application, or required by the licensing authority for the issuance of a permit or identification card, other than those that are specifically set forth in this chapter."

I especially like the way Gooley is violating this part by claiming to want an additional interview with me. Like I said before, psychological bs designed to be inflammatory and get a violent response from me. Well it doesn't work!

Call and ask to speak to the police chief and explain that the law is the law(including the interview).  File a complaint with your county prosecutor(chief law enforcement officer of your county).  File a complaint with the state attorney general.  The last thing this cop wants is his boss, or his bosses boss breathing down his neck about why he hasn't approved or denied the permit application, or why he wants additional conditions like interviews.  Its time the cops in this state start following the law themselves.

  2. Call Haddon Township and talk to Lt. Gooley. As long as it's not in writing he can tell you anything he wants and later deny it, which is exactly what he is doing. I see it as psychological abuse as well as simply denying my application by refusing to process it.

Today Gooley told me "I know by law that this application is supposed to be processed within 30 days. As long as I am still working on it I am not breaking any laws".

I guess two years from now, if my application is still on his desk that technically he is not breaking any laws.

I truly believe that Gooley is pushing my buttons to try and get me to explode so he can use that as an excuse for denying my application.

     f.     Granting of permit or identification card; fee; term; renewal; revocation. The application for the permit to purchase a handgun together with a fee of $2, or the application for the firearms purchaser identification card together with a fee of $5, shall be delivered or forwarded to the licensing authority who shall investigate the same and, unless good cause for the denial thereof appears, shall grant the permit or the identification card, or both, if application has been made therefor, within 30 days from the date of receipt of the application for residents of this State and within 45 days for nonresident applicants. A permit to purchase a handgun shall be valid for a period of 90 days from the date of issuance and may be renewed by the issuing authority for good cause for an additional 90 days. A firearms purchaser identification card shall be valid until such time as the holder becomes subject to any of the disabilities set forth in subsection c. of this section, whereupon the card shall be void and shall be returned within five days by the holder to the superintendent, who shall then advise the licensing authority. Failure of the holder to return the firearms purchaser identification card to the superintendent within the said five days shall be an offense under subsection a. of N.J.S.2C:39-10. Any firearms purchaser identification card may be revoked by the Superior Court of the county wherein the card was issued, after hearing upon notice, upon a finding that the holder thereof no longer qualifies for the issuance of such permit. The county prosecutor of any county, the chief police officer of any municipality or any citizen may apply to such court at any time for the revocation of such card.

There shall be no conditions or requirements added to the form or content of the application, or required by the licensing authority for the issuance of a permit or identification card, other than those that are specifically set forth in this chapter.

Set that cop straight!  You must be approved(or denied) in 30 days as per state law.  "Processed" isn't anywhere in the statute.  Approved or denied is.  Tell him to read up on the law. N.J.S. 2C:58-3(f).

  3. When you say a lot of people whined at the range, was that offical 'you can't do this or we turn you in' whining, or just the general semi-envious type.I wonder because it seems to me that the odds of someone in a position to do something about it seeing your gun and recognizing it as illegal anywhere else but at the range is small, and unless there is some kind of legal requirement that a range official turn you in, you could just tell them to mind their own business since you were legal already. Not that it pays to be confrontational, but you might have just liked that look.

It was more of people around me when I was taking the rifle out of the case/putting it back in, or when I came back from changing targets they would say things like "you had better cut that bayonet lug off, they are illegal in NJ...".  Then I would have to sit there and explain to them that grinding the "ears" off of it made it legal. Then they would say "oh, I don't know about that...."  Since they had no before picture to even know what ears I was speaking of, it made it even more complicated.

I don't like to get confrontational with people, so I would rather take the time to try to explain it(and maybe they would get a better understanding of just how ridiculious NJ's laws are).

The only reason I originally took just the ears off was because it required the least amount of work to make it legal.  I finally finished grinding it off, filed it smooth and painted it with some flat black paint.

  4. I originally did just the "ears", but I had a lot of people(uneducated people) whine at the range about my rifle still having the bayonet lug on it.

I finally just ground the rest of the lug off, as it served no purpose anymore, and it would be easier to not have to explain myself when asked about the lug.

  5. How do these compare to the Advantage Arms kit? Even with the sale they're more than the AA kit. I've never looked into the TacSol kit before. Does the slide lock back on an empty mag like with the AA?

    Says it does.

I see that they won't ship 15 round magazines here.  Thanks NJ.

  6. I cannot stand that the 10/25's don't have the load assist button.  I always have to remember to bring a tool of some sort(usually an allen wrench) to the range with me to pull the follower down.

Do any of these privately converted(not S&W factory 10 rounders) have the assist button?

  7. Yup they tried to tell me oh we make our own guys do it too, to which I replied bs lol

Yeah, except on their permit application where it says "Occupation: State Trooper"...Yeah, I'm sure their permit gets same day service, meanwhile mine sits and collects dust and turns yellow from age.

  8. One route I suppose you could go is to get a couple of 100lb DOT tanks and get it filled at the local propane supplier. I don't know how it would hook in to your house but if you don't use a lot of propane it could work.

I have a boiler, water heater, range/oven and a clothes dryer that all run on propane.

If you go that route, you go tank(valve)--regulator--line--drip leg--valve---appliance.

  9. Actually the Ruger mk series say it is fine to dry fire I don't have the manual but it has a front pin stop in the bolt Sonora does not hit the chamber face. It does say that if this peice is not installed correctly it will damage the chamber

That picture I posted above is of a Ruger which came from the factory with the pin installed incorrectly.

Personally i just dry fire with a spent casing in the chamber.

  10. Let this be a lesson, do not buy cheap rimfire guns. Any well made rimfire pistol or rifle will not have this dry fire restriction at all. Any company that allows the firing pin to peen the barrel is cutting corners or poor quality control. No problems with my CZ/S&W/Ruger/Kimber/Sig/Beretta. They are lots of fun with peace of mind.

One of the highest regarded 22 target pistols is a Browning Buckmark, and it will hit on the chamber face if dry fired.  My friends Sig Mosquito firing pin also hits.

This is directly out of the Sig Mosquito manual(Page 11, top right hand side):

Dry firing can cause damage to your pistol and create an unsafe condition.

Only Dry fire your pistol with the Dry Fire Plug installed in the chamber and the manual safety off.

Some hit, some don't, it has nothing to do with the quality of the gun.

  11. Most rimfire guns the firing pin will strike the edge of the chamber.  Do it enough and it'll wear a score into the chamber face and cause FTF issues.  Not to mention the wear of the firing pin hitting steel versus a soft brass case.

I found a random picture online of this:

    9PySmoT.jpg

As you can see, that little piece that got pushed out into the chamber will now cause some serious FTF issues(if a round would even chamber at all).
