  1. With that resume why wouldn't you look at local volunteer fire/ems instead of cert?

I was a volunteer firefighter, hence why I have all of that training. I, along with about 20 others quit the local department in 2009. I want to join another local department, but due to infighting currently going on there, I'm going to wait till it settles before making a decision.

Rumor has it a new fire company is being formed to take over the responsibilities of that fire district, so I have my eyes set on that.

  2. I've been told that in my town it's more like a "private club" than a community organization ....

It most certainly is.  I've contacted my township about it, as well as the county coordinator about it.  I've left messages with both, and they never got back to me.  Guess I'm not cool enough for the club.  And my years of experience with volunteer firefighting, numerous rescue classes I've taken, as well as the amateur radio license I hold don't make me a valuable asset to the CERT team.

  3. Your efforts will help reduce the amount of Drive By Stabbings in NJ..............

    Thank you!

Not to worry, I use my bolt action mosin with the bayonet for the drive by stabbings.

   I kid I kid!

  4. You can just shave off the "wings"

I did that to mine.  Got a lot of comments at the range about my rifle still having a bayonet lug.  I explained to them that the "wings" were ground off, so that a bayonet cannot be mounted it, and it's good to go.  Rather than continue to answer questions about it, I ground the rest of it off and hit it with some flat black spray paint.  No point in having the remainder of the lug anyway, it's not like it's useful for anything.

  5. so basically i need to call internal affairs? what the hell is wrong with this state...id really like to avoid pissing off the barracks but if thats what it takes ill do it.

That's what he did, and after not hearing back from Internal Affairs(or receiving a confirmation letter of his complaint like the investigator told him we would receive in a few days) in a week, he called the Attorney Generals office yesterday and filed a complaint.  He got a phone call this morning that his permits were ready to be picked up.

  6. Every time these come up I wonder if I should go clean-out the crap and dump it on the state for more than its worth...

Has anyone actually done this?  Taken some crappy .25, or a rusted-out shotgun to one of these events?

I've heard of people building the Home Depot special shotguns and turning them in for more money than they spent at the store.  But before they used to offer more money for shotguns and rifles.  For only $25 it isn't even worth the effort of me driving to Home Depot to even think about building one.

  7. In another section on this forum I posted that my friend has been waiting 4.5 months now and has involved NJSP Internal Affairs, and as of today he filed a complaint with the Attorney Generals office.

He applied 5/15, and the firearms unit didn't receive his paperwork till August 3rd, and as of last week they haven't done anything with it. They called me for his reference on 5/16.

Another guy posted yesterday that he has been waiting 5 months so far.

I waited 4.5 months from December to May.

    All through NJSP Woodbine.

My friend said he got his permits this morning.  Funny...a call to NJSP Internal Affairs and a call to the Attorney General, and suddenly the permits show up the following day...

  8. Gonna go check out the Asbury one before work, bring a few COEs with me. The link for the article is below...

"pellet and BB guns may be surrendered at the locations but there will be no compensation for those items, he said."

But some are now listed under the assault weapons ban...why aren't they offering compensation for those air rifles?  If they are so bad that we can't own them, they should be very important for the state to get them off the streets, right?

    Agenda exposed...

  9.

After doing a lot of research I can find nothing in NJ law that differentiates an arrow from any other traffic signal.

This is the NJ statute 39:4-115

    • 39:4-115. The driver of a vehicle or the motorman of a streetcar: a. intending to turn to the right or left at an intersection where traffic is controlled by traffic control signals or by a traffic or police officer, shall proceed to make either turn with proper care to avoid accidents and, except as provided in b. below, only upon the "go" signal unless otherwise directed by a traffic or police officer, an official sign or special signal; or b. intending to turn right at an intersection where traffic is controlled by a traffic control signal shall, unless an official sign of the State, municipality, or county authority having jurisdiction over the intersection prohibits the same, proceed to make the turn upon a "stop" or "caution" signal with proper care to avoid accidents after coming to a full stop, observing traffic in all directions, yielding to other vehicular traffic traveling in a direction in which the turn will be made, and stopping and remaining stopped for pedestrians crossing the roadway within a marked crosswalk, or at an unmarked crosswalk, into which the driver is turning. Both the approach for and the turn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the roadway, unless such intersection is otherwise posted.

Since there is no sign and since I can find nothing that specifically mentions an arrow I am going to fight this in court.

If anyone can find a NJ statute that mentions an arrow please put the link here.

I spoke to a friend in LE and he feels it is a "pretty thin thread" that the officer has hung his hat on.

That sentence right before your "red" section explains it.  An arrow is a traffic control signal.

39:4-8.13 - Definitions relative to traffic control signal monitoring systems; recording requirements

"Traffic control signal" means a device, whether manually, electrically, mechanically, or otherwise controlled, by which traffic is alternatively directed to stop and to proceed, and which has been approved by the Commissioner of Transportation in accordance with the "Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways."

  10. my barracks told me flat out 5+ months. i really hope/wish its sooner. but anything more than 30 days is a joke, as many towns can get it done in that time. Hell we shouldn't even have this stupid FID crap anyway!

  11. I had an issue with a "No turn on red between 4pm and 10pm" the other day.  Cop was sitting in a parking spot near the intersection.

Problem was, I had just finished working on my car- an electrical issue in which I had the battery disconnected...and the clock was wrong.  I honestly had no idea what time it was.

I went through it, then got pulled over.  I knew then it was after 4pm.

I explained that without touching my cell phone(while driving)...I had no way of knowing the time, because the clock in my car was wrong(it said it was 11:45).  I told him I guessed and thought it was around 3 something.

He laughed, and sent me on my way(and told me to set the correct time on my cars clock).

  12. Light his truck on fire.  That'll show him

    JOKING!!!

Seriously though, our township has an ordinance which says commercial vehicles aren't allowed to be parked on the streets.

I'd call the code enforcement officer and ask if that is a city ordinance your town has, and if it isn't go to a city meeting, and push the council to enact a law banning commercial vehicles from being parked on the street.

  13. How did your buddy make out with Internal Affairs??

Hasn't heard back from Internal Affairs yet after the initial call.

He said he was going to give them a week and then call the Attorney General back and complain that Internal Affairs didn't help.

He too was puzzled that people who applied well after him have already got their permits.

If I were you, I'd call the firearms unit- 609-882-2000 extension 2562 and inquire about your application.  Ask when THEY received the paperwork.  The lady might get a little mad, but too bad, this is our rights they are playing with.

My friend applied May 15th, and the firearms unit didn't even get the paperwork until August 3rd.  They called for his references on May 16th...so what happened between 5/16 and 8/3?  Not to mention the paperwork has been sitting at the firearms unit for over a month already with no movement.

I spoke with another local PD, who said they can turn the permits out in a week..no problem.  Us who are stuck with the state police are waiting 4-5 months for our pistol permits.

Something HAS to be done for those of us who have to use NJSP.  I'm seriously thinking about "moving" into my brothers house so I can be a resident of his town so I don't have to deal with NJSP for pistol permits anymore!

  14. You can't lock your outside suitcase they will cut the lock. All suitcases are opened now its a TSA law

Not all bags are opened.  Every piece of checked baggage goes through an x-ray machine.  If they have to inspect it further, they will open it.  For this reason you put a TSA approved lock on the outside bag, but you have to put a non-TSA lock on your gun case inside of your baggage.

  15. It's reassuring to know that the TSA (Thousands Standing Around) is expanding their job description to allow searching baggage for fun and profit.

At least in Atlantic City, the TSA baggage facility has so many cameras you can't be anywhere in the building and not be on camera.  If stuff gets stolen, it's the baggage handlers loading the planes.

  16. My friend is a Sales rep for a rather high end sunglasses company.  There aren't many dealers in NJ, so typically when I go to visit him, I'll bring some sunglasses home for friends.

I had 2 pairs in my checked bag out of Orlando.  When I landed in Atlantic City and retrieved my bag- they were gone.

$480 dollars worth of merchandise...gone- nothing to give my friends.  I ended up having to pay my friends back the money they gave me to buy the sunglasses.

I'm 100% sure they were taken in Orlando.  I showed up a few hours early for my flight...plenty of time for baggage handlers to rummage through my bag.  At ACY the bags were out on the carousel before I even made it to baggage claim.

I filed a complaint with Orlando PD, and the Detective I spoke with said this is a fairly large problem that they are dealing with on a daily basis.

Glad to know we have thieves working in the secure area of an airport that police know about.

It is because of this that I am very nervous about taking a gun in my bag.  I flew in May, and brought a handgun(for CCW), but I locked it with a cable to my bag.  I also didn't fly through Orlando.

  17. Title 23 of the Fish and Game, Wild Birds and Animals regs. states:

    "Hunting" means the possession of an instrument used to take wildlife in a condition that makes the instrument readily usable, while in a place or in proximity thereto where wildlife may be found;

So, after reading this, just having any "instrument" could presume you to be hunting. If you are on private property, and it's in the woods, that's a place "where wildlife may be found." Well then, you just may be hunting. You can't have a handgun, since that is not legal for hunting.

So what you're telling me is that because of some hunting regulation, I cannot CC a handgun anywhere on my property because wildlife may be found here?

That would also mean I cannot carry a knife on a hike through a state forest(even though it has a lawful use of cutting rope or making kindling or slicing my sandwich in half).

  18. The mags will even work for both calibers, that is not the case with 6.8.

The followers are different for the 6.8, but we did try my friends 6.8 with regular old .223/5.56 magazines(with .223/5.56 followers) and it functioned just fine.
